The degree of implementation of the Absys library programme in the centres included in the corporate license held by the Andalusian regional government is analysed focussing on 4 aspects: library/centre resources, use of the 8 basic functions of Absys, reference manuals and technical support. Of the 109 questionnaires sent to the 8 Andalusian provinces, 104 were returned fully answered: 6 from Almeria, 5 from Cadiz, 16 from Cordoba, 18 from Granada, 19 from Huelva, 4 from Jaen, 15 from Malaga and 21 from Seville. The province where there are the highest number of installations of the programme is Seville, followed by Huelva, Granada, Málaga and Cordoba

The hematopoietic stem-cell niche in health and leukemia.

Research in the last decade has shown that hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) interact with and are modulated by a complex multicellular microenvironment in the bone marrow, which includes both the HSC progeny and multiple non-hematopoietic cell types. Intense work is gradually throwing light on the composition of the HSC niche and the molecular cues exchanged between its components, which has implications for HSC production, maintenance and expansion. In addition, it has become apparent that bidirectional interactions between leukemic cells and their niche play a previously unrecognized role in the initiation and development of hematological malignancies. Consequently, targeting of the malignant niche holds considerable promise for more specific antileukemic therapies. Here we summarize the latest insights into HSC niche biology and recent work showing multiple connections between hematological malignancy and alterations in the bone marrow microenvironment. This work was supported by core support grants from the Wellcome Trust and MRC to the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (SAF-2011-30308), Pro-CNIC Foundation, Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence award SEV-2015-0505 to CNIC, TerCel (Spanish Cell Therapy Network), Ramón y Cajal Program grants RYC-2011-09726 to AS-A and RYC-2009-04703 to SM-F), Marie Curie Career Integration Program grants (FP7-PEOPLE-2011-RG-294262/294096) to AS-A and SM-F; and a ConSEPOC-Comunidad de Madrid grant (S2010/BMD-2542) and Horizon2020 (ERC-2014-CoG-64765 grant to SM-F. Video-based assistance system for training in minimally invasive surgery

    Get PDF
In this paper, the development of an assisting system for laparoscopic surgical training is presented. With this system, we expect to facilitate the training process at the first stages of training in laparoscopic surgery and to contribute to an objective evaluation of surgical skills. To achieve this, we propose the insertion of multimedia contents and outlines of work adapted to the level of experience of trainees and the detection of the movements of the laparoscopic instrument into the monitored image. A module to track the instrument is implemented focusing on the tip of the laparoscopic tool. This tracking method does not need the presence of artificial marks or special colours to distinguish the instruments. Similarly, the system has another method based on visual tracking to localize support multimedia content in a stable position of the field of vision. Therefore, this position of the support content is adapted to the movements of the camera or the working area. Experimental results are presented to show the feasibility of the proposed system for assisting in laparoscopic surgical training

Existing epidemiological evidence regarding the potential role of (poly)phenol intake in prostate cancer (PCa) risk is scarce and, in the case of flavonoids, it has been suggested that their intake may increase PCa risk. We investigated the associations between the intake of the total and individual classes and subclasses of (poly)phenols and the risk of PCa, including clinically relevant subtypes. The European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort included 131,425 adult men from seven European countries. (Poly)phenol intake at baseline was assessed by combining validated center/country-specific dietary questionnaires and the Phenol-Explorer database. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). In total, 6939 incident PCa cases (including 3501 lowgrade and 710 high-grade, 2446 localized and 1268 advanced, and 914 fatal Pca cases) were identified during a mean follow-up of 14 years. No associations were observed between the total intake of (poly)phenols and the risk of PCa, either overall (HRlog2 = 0.99, 95% CI 0.94–1.04) or according to PCa subtype. Null associations were also found between all classes (phenolic acids, flavonoids, lignans, and stilbenes) and subclasses of (poly)phenol intake and the risk of PCa, overall and according to PCa subtype. The results of the current large prospective cohort study do not support any association between (poly)phenol intake and PCa incidence.La Marato de TV-3 553/C/2019 PID2020-114921RB-C21 PI18/0191 PI22/0412CIBERFES CB16/10/00269Instituto de Salud Carlos III Spanish GovernmentEuropean Union (EU)Generalitat de Catalunya's Agency AGAUR 2021SGR00687Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence CEX2021-001234-MMICIN/AEI/FEDER, UEEuropean Union (EU) 2005328Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public HealthDanish Cancer SocietyLigue nationale contre le cancerInstitut Gustave RoussyMutuelle Generale de l'Education NationaleInstitut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale (Inserm)Deutsche KrebshilfeHelmholtz AssociationGerman Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke (DIfE)Federal Ministry of Education & Research (BMBF)Fondazione AIRC per la ricerca sul cancroCompagnia di San PaoloDutch Ministry of Public Health, Welfare and Sports (VWS)Netherlands Cancer Registry (NKR)LK Research FundsDutch Prevention FundsNetherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO)Health Research Fund (FIS)-Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII)Regional Governments of Andalucia, Asturias, Basque Country, Murcia and NavarraCatalan Institute of Oncology-ICO (Spain)Swedish Cancer SocietySwedish Research Council and County Councils of Skane and Vaesterbotten (Sweden)Cancer Research UK 14136 C8221/A29017UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) Medical Research Council UK (MRC) 1000143 MR/M012190/1Sara Borrell CPII20/00009Generalitat de Catalunya's Agency AGAUR 2021SGR00481Miguel Servet IIInstituto de Salud Carlos III Spanish Governmen
