17 p.Simulation activities are a useful tool to improve competence in industrial engineering bachelors. Specifically, fluid simulation allows students to acquire important skills to strengthen their theoretical knowledge and improve their future professional career. However, these tools usually require long training times and they are usually not available in the subjects of B.Sc. degrees. In this article, a new methodology based on short lessons is raised and evaluated in the fluid-mechanical subject for students enrolled in three different bachelor degree groups: B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and B.Sc. in Electronic and Automatic Engineering. Statistical results show a good acceptance in terms of usability, learning, motivation, thinking over, satisfaction and scalability. Additionally, a machine-learning based approach was applied to find group peculiarities and differences among them in order to identify the need for further personalization of the learning activity.S

Economic polarization through trade: Trade liberalization and regional growth in Mexico

The paper analyses the impact trade liberalization and economic integration have had on regional growth and regional disparities in Mexico over the last two decades. It is highlighted that the passage from an import substitution system to membership of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) first, and to economic integration in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) later, has been associated with greater concentration of economic activity and territorial polarization. The analysis also shows that these changes herald a period of transition between two growth models. Regional growth in the final stages of the import substitution period was mainly characterized by convergence and linked to the presence of oil and raw materials and proximity to Mexico City. Economic liberalization and regional integration in NAFTA has been related to regional divergence, a reduction of the importance of Mexico City as the main market and to the emergence of an economic system in which the endowment of skilled labour starts to play a more important role

Short simulation activity to improve the competences in the Fluid-mechanical Engineering classroom using Solidworks ® Flow Simulation

    Get PDF
7 p.In this paper, a short simulation activity based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is raised in the context of the Mechanical Engineering Bachelor degree as an effective support to the theoretical lessons, in order to improve the competences of the Fluid-Mechanical course. The activity provides both visual and numerical information that the student must compare critically with respect the results obtained analytically, using the equations explained in the theoretical classroom. The activity is designed so that it can be integrated quickly (due to the shortage of times in the academic calendars). In this manner its total completion does not exceed four hours of simulation class. This is achieved by optimizing the resources, proposing meshing and simulation strategies that consume little computational time and using the package Solidworks® Flow Simulation, that takes advantage of the geometry parametrically modelled with the software itself to automatically establish the computational domain of the fluid for the based-on CFD analysis, saving excessive preparation times and long computational process.S

[ABSTRACT] In this article we will raise an analysis, from an International Law perspective, of the landmark judgment issued by the Special Criminal Chamber of the Peruvian Supreme Court on 7 April 2009 against the former president Alberto Kenya Fujimori Fujimori. To do so, we will focus on the two key issues that were at the forefront of the arguments put forward in the final decision of the Special Chamber. On one hand, the possible legal qualification of the facts as crimes under international law and, in particular, as crimes against humanity; on the other hand -though to a lesser degree- the examination of the level of participation of the former president Fujimori in the commission of the crimes. All of the above, without prejudice to additional considerations regarding other vital legal issues such as the jurisdictional immunity of heads of state and the effects and impact of the amnesty granted by the law 26479 as well as of its interpretation pursuant to law 26492

An experimental strategy for characterizing inductive electromagnetic energy harvesters

    Get PDF
Condition monitoring of high voltage power lines through self-powered sensor systems has become a priority for utilities with the aim of detecting potential problems, enhancing reliabilityof the power transmission and distribution networks and mitigating the adverse impact of faults. Energy harvesting from the magnetic field generated by the alternating current flowing through highvoltage lines can supply the monitoring systems with the required power to operate without relying onhard-wiring or battery-based approaches. However, developing an energy harvester, which scavengesthe power from such a limited source of energy, requires detailed design considerations, which maynot result in a technically and economically optimal solution. This paper presents an innovativesimulation-based strategy to characterize an inductive electromagnetic energy harvester and the power conditioning system. Performance requirements in terms of the harvested power and output voltage range, or level of magnetic core saturation can be imposed. Different harvester configurations, whichsatisfy the requirements, have been produced by the simulation models. The accuracy and efficiency ofthis approach is verified with an experimental setup based on an energy harvester, which consists ofa Si-steel magnetic core and a power conditioning unit. For the worst-case scenario with a primary current of 5 A, the maximum power extracted by the harvester can be as close as 165 mW, resulting ina power density of 2.79 mW/cm3.Comunidad de MadridAgencia Estatal de Investigació

The memory report focuses on all the mechanical design that has been carried out to be able to shape the arm. All the programming and electronics necessary to be able to automate and control the arm are left out of this work. The main objective is to obtain an arm, mechanically speaking, better tan the last year's arm. A strong arm (structurally speaking) and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. An arm whose joints have a good design and adjustment to avoid play between parts and vibrations, but above all an arm capable of carrying out the missions that will be seen in the competition, such as, for example, connecting and disconnecting plugs, activating and deactivate switches, extract 500 g samples among others... To be able to shape the arm, it begins with an art study to obtain information about the projects already carried out in the industry. A small initial calculation is started to predefine how the arm is going to be structured and how the motors are going to be arranged, without dimensioning the entire arm, simply focused on having an idea of the necessary power of the motors. The necessary calculations are made to be able to start with the real design, in which the transmissions, the design and layout of the final pieces, a fairly approximate weight, etc. will be taken into account. At this point, the necessary structural calculation is started to be able to confirm that the parts that make up the arm (the vast majority manufactured by 3D printing) support the efforts that it is going to make. Once these points have been made, the assembly phase begins to be able to shape the arm and solve all the inconveniences
