    Get PDF
This investigation aims to model experts’ selection for neutrosophic Delphi method. The phase of selecting experts is essential to obtain adequate results in Delphi method, thus this phase deserves a major attention. The proposed method considers the complexity of the subject, according to experts’ criteria to fix the number of experts necessary to apply the neutrosophic Delphi method. Single-valued triangular neutrosophic numbers are used to measure experts’ self-evaluations and the weights of expertise criteria. Neutrosophy allows us to include indeterminacy, which is typical in any decision-making problem, as well as the calculation based on linguistic terms. Hotel activity serves as a case study for illustrating the applicability of the method in a real life situation

This paper focuses on the design of a power converter model for debugging digital controllers in closed loop. The testing may be performed by means of simulation or emulation. This paper shows the results of simulating and emulating the power converter using different data representations. Experiments will show that through a good selection of data and emulation, testing can be speeded up over 28,000 times. This work has been partially supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion under project TEC2009-09871

Instead of using these three measures to calculate the duty cycle, precalculated duty cycles can be stored in a memory. With this memory, the system only has to synchronize with the ac mains and apply the duty cycles, at least for nominal conditions. This paper shows several methods to accomplish this synchronization, using an ADC or a voltage comparator. Results show that PFC can be achieved using simple synchronization methods and precalculated duty cycles

"Handling input voltage frequency variations in power factor correctors with precalculated duty cycles", in IEEE 15th Workshop on Control and Modeling for Power Electronics (COMPEL), 2014, pp. 1-5The use of precalculated duty cycles for power factor correction leads to a significant simplification of the design and a reduction of the final cost. There are previous proposals for handling non-nominal conditions such as input voltage or load variations. However, there are no proposals for handling input frequency variations, which have an important impact in the power factor. This paper measures this impact and includes a simple loop to handle the variations of the input frequency. The results show that the introduction of this loop keeps the power factor values around those obtained in nominal conditions. This work has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación under project TEC2013-43017-R

There are several methodologies to accomplish this task, but there is no standard method and, usually, the verification is a slow process. An alternative is to use an HIL (Hardware-in-the-loop) system which emulates in hardware a digital model of the plant, achieving significantly faster simulations. This paper explains how to implement a simple but fast mathematical model for a full-bridge converter and how to implement it using paramatrizable fixed point arithmetic. Fixed point arithmetic is able to achieve faster simulations compared to floating point while using less hardware resources. This paper shows that this model can emulate the converter in real-time using a time step of 23 ns.This work has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad under project TEC2013-43017-

Bases and foundations of the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis: Review article

    Get PDF
Peritoneal carcinomatosis refers to a shedding or tumor that spreads to the peritoneal serosa and structures of the abdominal cavity. It is an entity with a poor prognosis. Several conditions can cause this, the most common being colon, rectum, ovary, stomach or appendix cancers, including peritoneal pseudomyxoma, among others. The abdominal cavity invasion is considered a clinical stage IV. For a long time life expectancy of this entity was very short. With the advent of meticulous techniques in cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) the prognosis of patients has changed. In some conditions, these procedures are standard treatments. CRS is a very important prognostic factor; leaving a less residual disease in the patient, the evolution will be better. The HIPEC starts immediately after the surgical event. The hyperthermia increases the cytotoxic effect of antineoplastic drugs. Numerous studies have appeared in medical literature wherein the clear improvement in survival of the affected population is demonstrated. It is essential that a multidisciplinary team participates in the decision for the best treatment option and the maximum clinical benefit of the patients

Maggie: A Social Robot as a Gaming Platform

Edutainment robots are robots designed to participate in people's education and in their entertainment. One of the tasks of edutainment robots is to play with their human partners, but most of them offer a limited pool of games. Moreover, it is difficult to add new games to them. This lack of flexibility could shorten their life cycle. This paper presents a social robot on which several robotic games have been developed. Our robot uses a flexible and modular architecture that allows the creation of new skills by the composition of existing and simpler skills. With this architecture, the development of a new game mainly consists in the composition of the skills that are needed for this specific game. In this paper, we present the robot, its hardware and its software architecture, including its interaction capabilities. We also provide a detailed description of the development of five of the games the robot can play. The authors gratefully acknowledge the funds provided by the Spanish MICINN (Ministry of Science and Innovation) through the project "A new Approach to Social Robotics (AROS)". Sound synthesis for communicating nonverbal expressive cues

    Get PDF
Non-verbal sounds (NVS) constitute an appealing communicative channel for transmitting a message during a dialog. They provide two main benefits, such as they are not linked to any particular language, and they can express a message in a short time. NVS have been successfully used in robotics, cell phones, and science fiction films. However, there is a lack of deep studies on how to model NVS. For instance, most of the systems for NVS expression are ad hoc solutions that focus on the communication of the most prominent emotion. Only a small number of papers have proposed a more general model or dealt directly with the expression of pure communicative acts, such as affirmation, denial, or greeting. In this paper we propose a system, referred to as the sonic expression system (SES), that is able to generate NVS on the fly by adapting the sound to the context of the interaction. The system is designed to be used by social robots while conducting human robot interactions. It is based on a model that includes several acoustic features from the amplitude, frequency, and time spaces. In order to evaluate the capabilities of the system, nine categories of communicative acts were created. By means of an online questionnaire, 51 participants classified the utterances according to their meaning, such as agreement, hesitation, denial, hush, question, summon, encouragement, greetings, and laughing. The results showed how very different NVS generated by our SES can be used for communicating.Publicad
