Autonomic modulation of heart rate of young and postmenopausal women undergoing estrogen therapy
Autonomic modulation of heart rate of young and postmenopausal women undergoing estrogen therapy
The aim of the present study was to determine whether estrogen therapy (ET) reduces alterations of the autonomic control of heart rate (HR) due to hypoestrogenism and aging. Thirteen young (24 ± 2.6 years), 10 postmenopausal (53 ± 4.6 years) undergoing ET (PM-ET), and 14 postmenopausal (56 ± 2.6 years) women not undergoing ET (PM) were studied. ET consisted of 0.625 mg/day conjugated equine estrogen. HR was recorded continuously for 8 min at rest in the supine and sitting positions. HR variability (HRV) was analyzed by time (SDNN and rMSSD indices) and frequency domain methods. Power spectral components are reported as normalized units (nu) at low (LF) and high (HF) frequencies, and as LF/HF ratio. Intergroup comparisons: SDNN index was higher in young (median: supine, 47 ms; sitting, 42 ms) than in PM-ET (33; 29 ms) and PM (31; 29 ms) women (P < 0.05). PM showed lower HFnu, higher LFnu and higher LF/HF ratio (supine: 44, 56, 1.29; sitting: 38, 62, 1.60) than the young group in the supine position (61, 39, 0.63) and the PM-ET group in the sitting position (57, 43, 0.75; P < 0.05). Intragroup comparisons: HR was lower in the supine than in the sitting position for all groups (P < 0.05). The HRV decrease from the supine to the sitting position was significant only in the young group. These results suggest that HRV decreases during aging. ET seems to attenuate this process, promoting a reduction in sympathetic activity on the heart and contributing to the cardioprotective effect of estrogen hormones.49149
recombinante (rFSHh) e hormônio luteinizante equino (LHe).
Equine follicular fluid on in vitro maturation of bovine oocytes
Abstract
Embryo development of bovine oocytes was evaluated using maturation medium
supplemented with equine follicular fluid (eFF). One thousand and forty five (1045) oocytes were distributed
in 11 replications forming three treatment groups (T1, T2 e T3) and one Control (C). TCM-199 added with
sodium pyruvate, rFSHh and LHe was used as maturation medium. This medium was supplemented with
10% estrous mare serum for Control group, and 5, 10, and 20% eFF, respectively, for T1, T2 e T3
groups. In vitro maturation (IVM) of all groups was performed during 24h. In vitro fertilization (IVF) was
performed in TALP-FERT medium. IVM and IVF were carried out in an incubator at 39ºC with 5% CO2 in
air and saturated humidity. Zygotes were cultured in SOFaaci medium, under mineral oil in gasified
bags. Cleavage and blastocyst rates were daily observed (D), and at D7, were higher (P0.05) for those from control group. At D9, blastocyst rate of T2
was higher (P0.05). The eFF, at a 10% concentration, can replace the use of
estrous mare serum to supplement the IVM medium of bovine oocytes
Expression of a methionine-rich storage albumin from the Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa H.B.K., Lecythidaceae) in transgenic bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L., Fabaceae)
Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), an important component in the diet of people in developing countries, has low levels of the essential amino acid, methionine. We have attempted to correct this deficiency by introducing a transgene coding for a methionine-rich storage albumin from the Brazil nut via biolistic methods. The transgene's coding sequence was driven by a doubled 35S CaMV promoter and AMV enhancer sequences. The transgene was stable and correctly expressed in homozygous R2 to R5 seeds. In two of the five transgenic lines the methionine content was significantly increased (14 and 23%) over the values found in untransformed plants.O feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) é um componente importante na dieta da população de países em desenvolvimento.

Deformations of nearly Kähler instantons
We formulate the deformation theory for instantons on nearly Kähler six-manifolds using spinors and Dirac operators. Using this framework we identify the space of deformations of an irreducible instanton with semisimple structure group with the kernel of an elliptic operator, and prove that abelian instantons are rigid. As an application, we show that the canonical connection on three of the four homogeneous nearly Kähler six-manifolds G/H is a rigid instanton with structure group H. In contrast, these connections admit large spaces of deformations when regarded as instantons on the tangent bundle with structure group SU(3)
