Feasibility and reliability of a Physical Fitness test battery in individuals with Down Syndrome

Background: Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder that occurs because of an abnormal division between cells that results in an extra copy of chromosome 21. Some studies show that physical exercise in people with DS increases some cognitive capacities, such as memory, and improves the quality of life. Aim: The main aim of this study was to perform an analysis of the reliability and feasibility of the SAMU-Disability Fitness (DISFIT) battery in adults with DS. Methods: A cross-sectional study with a test–retest design was performed in a maximum interval of 2 weeks in 37 subjects (11 women and 26 men) aged between 21 and 58 years old with DS. Eight field-based fitness tests were proposed to assess the physical fitness (PF) of adults with DS: Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), the Timed Up and Go test (TUG), the Deep Trunk Flexibility test (DTF), the Hand Grip test (HG), the Timed Stand Test (TST), the 30-s Sit-Up (SUP) and the 6-Min Walk Test (6MWT). Results: The intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) in all the tests was good and high (>0.80), except for the 6MWT, whose reliability was fair. Journalists trapped in the Network: work routines and job situation

Las nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (NTIC) han obligado al periodista tradicional a una forma diametralmente distinta de hacer periodismo. Un debate social, cultural y profesional de dimensiones exorbitantes ha surgido desde entonces: tanto es así que Martínez Albertos, entre otros autores, se ha atrevido a profetizar que el periodismo tradicional y los periódicos de papel desaparecerán en el 2020. Aunque no compartimos dichos presagios, es un hecho que esta nueva plataforma ha abierto un campo laboral para los recién egresados de las Facultades de Comunicación, periodistas sin trabajo e incluso muchos becarios aún estudiantes. No obstante, las condiciones laborales que ofrece este formato digital son precarias y preocupantes. Las cifras oficiales conocidas hasta hoy lo demuestran, indicándonos que dicha precariedad va en aumento, lo cual nos obliga a efectuar una reflexión sobre el futuro de nuestra profesión. Producto de la gran demanda de puestos de trabajo, muchos portales on - line hacen caso omiso sobre políticas laborales mínimas que dignifiquen el trabajo del periodista y lo comprometan con su profesión.The new information and communication technologies (NICT) have forced the traditional journalist to assume a diametrically distinct manner of journalism. Even when we do not share these fears, it is a fact that this new platform has opened a field of work for recent graduates from Communication Faculties, unemployed journalists and even many students. Comparison of thematic maps using symbolic entropy

Comparison of thematic maps is an important task in a number of disciplines. Map comparison has traditionally been conducted using cell-by-cell agreement indicators, such as the Kappa measure. More recently, other methods have been proposed that take into account not only spatially coincident cells in two maps, but also their surroundings or the spatial structure of their differences. The objective of this paper is to propose a framework for map comparison that considers 1) the patterns of spatial association in two maps, in other words, the map elements in their surroundings; 2) the equivalence of those patterns; and 3) the independence of patterns between maps. Two new statistics for the spatial analysis of qualitative data are introduced. These statistics are based on the symbolic entropy of the maps, and function as measures of map compositional equivalence and independence. As well, all inferential elements to conduct hypothesis testing are developed. The framework is illustrated using real and synthetic maps

The mobbing in the journalistic profession: Empirical analysis of the psychological harassment in the work and his influence in the journalist and in the informative company

Los casos de mobbing o acoso psicológico en el trabajo son frecuentes dentro de la profesión periodística, donde las amenazas, las presiones y las conductas hostigadoras se han convertido en compañeras de viaje de sus profesionales. El objetivo de este artículo científico es teorizar sobre esta práctica que se gesta, cada vez con mayor asiduidad, dentro de las redacciones informativas. La revisión crítica de la bibliografía existente, el análisis descriptivo de casos representativos, las entrevistas a los afectados y un estudio de caso aplicado a los profesionales de la prensa escrita de Almería, evidencian cómo el fenómeno afecta de forma insidiosa al bienestar físico y psicológico de los periodistas que lo padecen, suponiendo, al mismo tiempo, importantes costes económicos para las empresas informativas.The cases of mobbing or psychological harassment are frequent inside the journalistic profession at work, where the threats, the pressures and the harsh behavior have turned into partners for his professionals. The aim of this scientific article is to theorize on this practice that is happening, every time with major assiduity, inside the informative drafts. The critical review of the existing bibliography, the descriptive analysis of representative cases, the interviews to the affected ones and a study of case applied to the professionals of the written press of Almeria, demonstrate how the phenomenon concerns, in an alarming way, to the physical and psychological wellness of the journalists who suffer it, and at the same time, it assumes important economic costs to the informative companies

Propuesta de un plan de mantenimiento preventivo para la caldera de diésel York Shipley instalada en Planta de sub-producto COESA, de Avícola La Estrella, S.A, en el periodo comprendido de agosto a noviembre, 2015

El presente trabajo se realizó en el área de calderas de la Planta de Sub-producto COESA de Avícola La Estrella, S.A., ubicada en el Km 29 ½ de la carretera norte. Esta pequeña planta comenzó operaciones a mediados del mes de mayo de presente año. En la planta se realiza el proceso de elaboración de harina de pollo de todas las aves que son desechadas en las galeras de la empresa. En el inicio del presente trabajo se plantearon los objetivos (general y específicos) cuyo propósito es la mayor optimización productiva del equipo, de la misma manera en el planteamiento del problema se expone que los paros repentinos de la máquina son el principal problema por la falta de un adecuado mantenimiento. En cuanto al marco referencial se establecieron las respectivas teorías, definiciones, las especificaciones de las leyes con las que regir el presente estudio, la localización de la empresa y la especificación temporal en la que se realizó. Este estudio tiene un enfoque de carácter mixto ya que se describen y analizan los datos que generan la información encontrada de la máquina. De la misma manera se estableció el universo, población y muestra que corresponde a la empresa, la planta de subproducto y la máquina evaluada respectivamente y luego las herramientas de investigación que se utilizaron como entrevista, observación y métodos como el árbol de problemas y de fallos y la metodología HAZOP. En el desarrollo se caracteriza el proceso de producción por medio del diagrama de flujo de la norma ISO, se analizan las fallas con el árbol de problemas y árbol de fallo, se implementa la metodología HAZOP en donde se encuentra la “presión” como el mayor factor de riesgo y finalmente la aplicación del correspondiente “Manual MPP” para la caldera con un breve análisis de los costos de mantenimiento, los resultados de la entrevista y la observación aplicada. Finalmente la conclusión basada en los objetivos que se establecieron y luego las respectivas recomendaciones de mejoras para la planta y la caldera en estudio

Disformal scalars as dark matter candidates: Branon phenomenology

Scalar particles coupled to the Standard Model fields through a disformal coupling arise in different theories, such as massive gravity or braneworld models. We will review the main phenomenology associated with such particles. Distinctive disformal signatures could be measured at colliders and with astrophysical observations. The phenomeno-logical relevance of the disformal coupling demands the introduction of a set of symmetries, which may ensure the stability of these new degrees of freedom. In such a case, they constitute natural dark matter candidates since they are generally massive and weakly coupled. We will illustrate these ideas by paying particular attention to the branon case, since these questions arise naturally in braneworld models with low tension, where they were first discussed

Detection of inter-turn faults in multi-phase ferrite-PM assisted synchronous reluctance machine

Inter-turn winding faults in five-phase ferrite-permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motors (fPMa-SynRMs) can lead to catastrophic consequences if not detected in a timely manner, since they can quickly progress into more severe short-circuit faults, such as coil-to-coil, phase-to-ground or phase-to-phase faults. This paper analyzes the feasibility of detecting such harmful faults in their early stage, with only one short-circuited turn, since there is a lack of works related to this topic in multi-phase fPMa-SynRMs. Two methods are tested for this purpose, the analysis of the spectral content of the zero-sequence voltage component (ZSVC) and the analysis of the stator current spectra, also known as motor current signature analysis (MCSA), which is a well-known fault diagnosis method. This paper compares the performance and sensitivity of both methods under different operating conditions. It is proven that inter-turn faults can be detected in the early stage, with the ZSVC providing more sensitivity than the MCSA method. It is also proven that the working conditions have little effect on the sensitivity of both methods. A non-parametric spatial independence test using symbolic entropy

In the present paper, we construct a new, simple, consistent and powerful test for spatial independence, called the SG test, by using symbolic dynamics and symbolic entropy as a measure of spatial dependence. We also give a standard asymptotic distribution of an affine transformation of the symbolic entropy under the null hypothesis of independence in the spatial process. The test statistic and its standard limit distribution, with the proposed symbolization, are invariant to any monotonuous transformation of the data. The test applies to discrete or continuous distributions. Given that the test is based on entropy measures, it avoids smoothed nonparametric estimation. We include a Monte Carlo study of our test, together with the well-known Moran’s I, the SBDS (de Graaff et al, 2001) and (Brett and Pinkse, 1997) non parametric test, in order to illustrate our approach
