A Handheld low-mass, impact instrument to measure nondestructive firmness of fruit
A portable, handheld impact firmness sensor was designed for nondestructive measurement of fruit firmness while the fruit remain attached to the tree or for use in other remote locations where the use of a benchtop instrument would be impractical. The instrument design was based on the low-mass, constant velocity, impact-type measurement concept. Validation tests of the handheld sensor using `Bartlett' pears from orchards in California and Washington showed excellent agreement (r2 = 0.92 and 0.96, respectively) with both ASAE Standard method S368.2 for determining the apparent modulus of intact fruit and the impact firmness scores from a commercial benchtop impact firmness instrument
Information highway describes the telecomunication services will be working in
the next 10-15 years. The embryo of this highway is Internet. Internet offers two kinds of services:
a) communication between users around the worid, and b) access to information services. In the
first group of this services we can find electronic mail and news group. In the second group we
can find services such as telnet, file transfer, Gopher and World Wide Web. We describe each of
this kind of services and their applications in orthopaedic surgery

Molecular and all solid DFT studies of the magnetic and chemical bonding properties within KM[Cr(CN)] (M = V, Ni) complexes
A study at both the molecular and extended solid level in the framework DFT
is carried out for KM[Cr(CN)] (M = V, Ni). From molecular calculations, the
exchange parameters J are obtained, pointing to the expected magnetic ground
states, i.e., antiferromagnetic for M = V with J = -296.5 cm and
ferromagnetic for M = Ni with J = +40.5 cm. From solid state
computations the same ground states and J magnitudes are confirmed from energy
differences. Furthermore an analysis of the site projected density of states
and of the chemical bonding is developed in which the cyanide ion linkage is
analyzed addressing some isomerism aspects.Comment: new results, 5 tables, 7 fig

High-degree atrioventricular block. An unusual presentation of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy: a case report
Background: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a non-ischemic cardiomyopathy characterized by acute left ventricular systolic dysfunction with transient wall motion abnormalities without a culprit coronary stenosis or other concurrent diagnoses. Its coexistence with transient high-degree AV block is very infrequent. Case presentation: A 61-year-old man presented with a new onset of high degree AV block without ST segment deviations developing an anterior and apical dyskinesia with a low left ventricular ejection fraction in the absence of coronary artery disease. Conclusion: Atrioventricular block is an uncommon presentation of Takotsubo syndrome. The management of patients with relevant conduction disorders in this scenario is a challenge for the clinician. In case of persistence of advanced conduction disorders, it seems appropriate to implant a pacemaker
The new powder diffractometer D1B of the Institut Laue Langevin
D1B is a medium resolution high flux powder diffractometer located at the Institut Laue Langevin, ILL. D1B a suitable instrument for studying a large variety of polycrystalline materials. D1B runs since 1998 as a CRG (collaborating research group) instrument, being exploited by the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France) and CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, Spain). In 2008 the Spanish CRG started an updating program which included a new detector and a radial oscillating collimator (ROC). The detector, which has a sensitive height of 100mm, covers an angular range of 128°. Its 1280 gold wires provide a neutron detection point every 0.1°. The ROC is made of 198 gadolinium- based absorbing collimation blades, regular placed every 0.67°. Here the present characteristics of D1B are reviewed and the different experimental performances will be presented
