    Integrated multisectoral strategy to improve girls' and women's nutrition before conception, during pregnancy and after birth in India (Swabhimaan): protocol for a prospective, non-randomised controlled evaluation

    INTRODUCTION: Swabhimaan is a community-based programme to improve adolescent girls’ and women’s nutrition in the rural areas of three Indian states—Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha with high prevalence of undernutrition. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Swabhimaan has a nested prospective, non-randomised controlled evaluation. Since 2017, five intervention sites receive community-led interventions through national government’s livelihood mission supported women’s self-help group federations and five control sites will initiate these activities 36 months later, in 2020. Community-led activities aim to improve coverage of 18 interventions including adequacy of food consumed, prevention of micronutrient deficiencies, access to basic health services and special care of nutritionally ‘at risk’ girls and women, improving hygiene and access to water and sanitation services and access to family planning services. The evaluation includes baseline (2016–2017), midline (2018–2019) and endline (2020–2021) surveys covering 6638 adolescent girls, 2992 pregnant women and 8755 mothers of children under 2. The final impact analysis will be by intention to treat, comparing primary and secondary outcomes in five intervention areas and five control areas. The primary outcomes are: (1) a 15% reduction in the proportion of adolescent girls with a body mass index (BMI) <18.5 kg/m2; (2) a 15% reduction in the proportion of mothers of children under two with a BMI <18.5 kg/m2 and (3) and a 0.4 cm improvement in mean mid-upper arm circumference among pregnant women. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: All procedures involving human subjects were approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha and in compliance with guidelines laid down in the Declaration of Helsinki.     AI-driven safety checks for ladders used on construction sites

    Construction plays an integral part in the social and economic development of countries worldwide. Construction site safety is a crucial concern in both developed and developing countries. Because the preponderance of safety practices is mitigation-oriented rather than prevention-oriented, the construction industry has poor safety and health conditions. Falls are the primary cause of accidents involving roof and ladder falls on site. With the ability of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based techniques, the safety of ladders can be effectively managed, and the rate of accidents can be reduced. This study presents the AI-driven safety checking for a ladder in the pre-use stage. The checks are performed in Python programming language and various libraries such as math, Numpy, and Opencv. The AI-driven safety checking can decide for 'fitness for the use of the ladder in terms of its structural rigidity before use. Compared to conventional safety practice, this process is less time-consuming, an inspection can be done throughout the project lifecycle, data can be stored and shared virtually, and needless to say, the ladder-related hazards can be reduced

    ResumoAs extranets de projeto foram amplamente investigadas hĂĄ alguns anos. No entanto, pouco esforço tem sido dedicado Ă  anĂĄlise de como seu uso evoluiu nas empresas de AEC. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho revisita as extranets de projeto com uma nova perspectiva, analisando evoluçÔes em seu uso. A extranet objeto de estudo foi desenvolvida em parceria entre universidade e empresas, e seu uso foi analisado em dezenas de empreendimentos ao longo de oito anos. O mĂ©todo de pesquisa apresenta a forma de estudo de casos mĂșltiplos. As funcionalidades da extranet foram desenvolvidas de maneira progressiva, e seu uso foi analisado por meio de observação direta de rotinas de trabalho, acesso a todos os documentos de dezenas de empreendimentos, anĂĄlise do fluxo de trabalho nos empreendimentos e entrevistas com coordenadores de projeto. Entre os principais resultados destacam-se: a) o uso prolongado da ferramenta permitiu que as empresas consolidassem rotinas de gestĂŁo do processo de projeto, melhorando a gestĂŁo de documentos e as formas de comunicação; b) esse uso nĂŁo implicou, na maioria dos casos, a criação de novos mecanismos de colaboração entre os usuĂĄrios, com exceçÔes pontuais; c) o amadurecimento no uso das extranets permitiu a ampliação de seu uso, estendendo-se a outros setores das empresas e fases dos empreendimentos. O trabalho discute como as extranets, com o uso consolidado nas empresas, podem servir como efetivos instrumentos de colaboração na etapa de projeto

    International audienceIn this work we report on the electrochemical behavior of Ce(IV)/Ce(III) redox couple in pure N,N-dialkyl amides (N,N-DA), namely N,N-di(2-ethylhexyl)-n-butanamide (DEHBA), N,N-di(2-ethylhexyl)-iso-butanamide (DEHiBA), and N,Ndi(2-ethylhexyl)-3,3-dimethyl butanamide (DEHDMBA) equilibrated with nitric aqueous solutions as an entry to the direct electrochemical characterization of plutonium in these extractants. Ce(IV)/Ce(III) redox process was used as a model. Its potential (E 1/2 1.02 V/SCE) is not affected by the temperature and the nature of the N,N-DA and this clearly indicates that the functionalities of the these extractants produce the same relative effect on both +IV and +III oxidation states of the cerium cation. Linear variations of the current intensity of the reduction peak of Ce(IV) with the concentration of Ce(IV)/N,N-DAs/HNO 3 (5M) solutions were obtained from cyclic voltammograms recorded at 25°C and 40°C. Due to the poor definition of the voltammograms in DEHiBA and DEHDMBA, such characterization allows only the evaluation of the performances of the chemical extraction of Ce(IV) from aqueous nitric acid solution by the undiluted DEHBA. To our knowledge, the electrochemical behavior of Ce(IV)/Ce(III) in N,N-DAs was not previously studied and our findings will for sure open the door for further investigations in this field
