Alfredo Fraile y la pintura de José de Ribera: el claroscuro barroco como modelo

    Get PDF
This article analyses the influence of the work of the Baroque painter José de Ribera (1591 - 1652) on the work of Alfredo Fraile (1912-1994), one of the leading directors of black andwhite photography in the Spanish cinema of the forties and fifties. Todo so, we have selected the most emblematic period of Fraile's work; the decade between his films El clavo (1944) and Muerte de un ciclista (1955). Fraile's interest for Ribera's painting lay in the latter's use of chiaroscuro and the realization that certain aspects of this might be applicable in cinema through the lighting process and the tonal texture of black and white film. What attracted Fraile to Ribera was primarily the latter's gloomy, dramatic use of chiaroscuro, the way he played with light and shadows and the way in which he was able to create a perturbing atmosphere through the use of extreme contrast

Effect of labour flexibility on productivity in the andalusian hotel industry

    Get PDF
In this work, we analyze the effect of labour flexibility on productivity in the Andalusian hotel industry. For this purpose, we use the data obtained by the Quality, Productivity and Competitiveness in the Hospitality Industry for Andalusia project (PO7/SEJ-02889). Using a expanded version of the Cobb-Douglas production function, the model distinguishes two employment shares: full-time permanent (standard work) and temporary plus part-time employees (non-standard work). Our results indicate that productivity in Andalusian hotels is lower the higher the percentage of temporary and part-time workers. Furthermore, there are no statistically significant differences between the negative impact on productivity of both types of labour contract. However, since the costs associated with both temporary and part-time workers are lower than those of workers with full-time permanent contracts, future studies should analyze the differential impact of all the types of contracts discussed on the mean cost per employee in hotels.Universidad de Málaga. Causas de mortalidad de colonias de Polistes dominula (Christ, 1791) (Hymenoptera, Vespidae) en zonas urbanas del suroeste de la Península Ibérica

From 2017 to 2018 we studied populations of the eusocial paper wasp Polistes dominula (Christ, 1791) in three municipalities of the south-western Iberian Peninsula, in order to identify the causes of colony mortality. The results showed that the first main cause of mortality in the study area was human activity (43.55 %). The second most important cause was abandonment of the nest (20.19 %). Only 82 of the 411 nests (19.95 %) showed signs of natural colony decline, following the emergence of reproductives.De 2017 a 2018 se estudiaron diversas poblaciones de la avispa eusocial Polistes dominula (Christ, 1791) en tres municipios del suroeste de la península ibérica, con la finalidad de identificar las causas de mortalidad de sus colonias. Nesting Ecology of Polistes Species (hymenoptera, Vespidae) in Urban Areas of South-western Iberian Peninsula

Urbanization is increasing across the globe and it is recognized as a major factor affectingspecies, populations and assemblages. Although urbanization is recognized as a major threat to biodiversity, there is increasing evidence that urban habitats may play a role in conservation. The objective of this work was to verify the occurrence of Polistes species (Vespidae) and the substrates used for nesting in urban areas in south-western Iberian Peninsula. The study was carried out from March to August of 2018 in three small towns in the Llanos de Olivenza region (SW Spain). Active searching was conducted for colonies of social wasps along and for each colony that was found we identified the species, type of substrate used for nesting, height of the colony in relation to the ground level and orientation. 753 colonies of social wasps were found belonging to two species: Polistes dominula and P. gallicus.  The most used nesting substrate was clay roof tile followed by metals. The height of the nests was related to the height of the buildings on which they were built. In all the tree towns nests exposure were oriented to the SE with mean angle values oscillating between 127.42° and 140.68°. In addition, our results confirm the prediction that wasps are more abundant in less or non-urbanized areas even if they are small urban areas such as those studied in our case

Economy and Environmental Problems in the Mexican Coastal States

A canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) for environmental and economic variables was performed for 17 Mexican coastal states. The ordination method allowed us to identify three groups, namely hydroelectric energy generation (I), pollution (II) and harbours (III), which were associated to different human activities. Furthermore, CCA is efficient to help us generate hypotheses for future research. It is therefore advised that CCA should be used for routine analyses into economics.Coastal States of Mexico, Canonical Correspondence Analysis, Diversity Index, Economic Development, Environmental Variables.

Fostering collaborative key-competences for employability through free-licensing & wiki methodologies

In a context of deep economic crisis, the labour market requires new organisational systems and new processes. Among others, we highlight the need to upgrade skills, specifically regarding collaborative procedures and opportunities. Moreover, the Europe 2020 strategy acknowledges that a fundamental transformation of education and training is needed to address the new skills and competences required if Europe is to remain competitive (ET 2020). Wikinomics is a European project (Lifelong Learning Programme, 2013-2015) that aims to use free-culture and wiki methodologies as the basis for an innovative pedagogical methodology. Furthermore, Wikinomics is focused on vocational education that prepares people for specific careers at various levels. By adapting core competences and other data identified within the Wikiskills project, participants from different countries and vocational education sectors will validate the framework, modules and tools adapted to current and future labour market needs. This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.
