Background: People’s different responses to HIV prevention programs have been related to collective patterns of significance
that are imposed to their behaviors, and affect the success of health interventions.
Objective: To understand the social conditions by which men who have sex with men (MSM) face their risks.
Methodology: A qualitative study based on the symbolic interactionism was carried out in Medellín between 1993 and 2006.
The places where MSM meet were identified and visited. Focus groups with key informants and 100 in-depth interviews were
conducted, of which 39 of them were conducted with MSM.
Results: The study identified and studied seven scenarios where MSM face the risk of HIV. In the region, homosexuality
continues to be object of social stigma and MSM must create for themselves special stages, where sexual activity can be less difficult.
These conditions have been exploited by the market, which perceives MSM as consumers with payment capacity, and it has
generated an expansive offer of stages where MSM act out several of their fundamental needs but, at the same time, are also exposed
to different risks. The scenarios are built as normative systems generated by the market whose structure is imposed to the individual
behaviors, frequently restricting their capacity to be protected from the risk of infection.
Conclusion: The findings illustrate the complexity of the subjective decisions involved with the personal protection and the
management of the risks; and they question the paradigm of the rational consumer. On the contrary, the conjunction of the structural
vulnerability and the individual vulnerability, in a context of social exclusion, conform an intricate net that should be assumed in
its complexity and integrity by health policies.

Search in the eye of the beholder: using the personal social dataset and ontology-guided input to improve web search efficiency
Proceedings of: Latin American Web Conference 2007 (LA-WEB 2007), 31 October-2 November 2007, Santiago (Chile)Among the challenges of searching the vast information source the Web has become, improving Web search efficiency by different strategies using semantics and the user generated data from Web 2.0 applications remains a promising and interesting approach. In this paper, we present the Personal Social Dataset and Ontology-guided Input strategies and couple them together, providing a proof of concept implementation.Publicad
Improving N calculation of the RSI financial indicator using neural networks
Proceeding of: 2010 2nd IEEE International Conference on Information and Financial Engineering (ICIFE 2010), 17-19 September 2010, Chongqing, China 2010Trading and Stock Behavioral Analysis Systems require efficient Artificial Intelligence techniques for analyzing large financial datasets and have become in the current economic landscape a significant challenge for multi disciplinary research. Particularly, Trading oriented Decision Support Systems based on the Chartist or Technical Analysis Relative Strength Indicator (RSI) have been published and used worldwide. However, its combination with Neural Networks as a branch of evolutionary computing which can outperform previous results remain a relevant approach which has not deserved enough attention. In this paper, we present the Chartist Analysis Platform for Trading (CAST, in short) platform, a proof of concept architecture and implementation of a Trading Decision Support System based on the RSI N value calculation and Feed Forward Neural Networks (FFNN). CAST provides a set of relatively more accurate financial decisions yielded by the combination of Artificial Intelligence techniques to the N calculation for RSI and a more precise and improved upshot obtained from feed forward algorithms application to stock value datasets. This work is supported by the Spanish Ministry of

Simplified Interval Observer Scheme: A New Approach for Fault Diagnosis in Instruments
There are different schemes based on observers to detect and isolate faults in dynamic processes. In the case of fault diagnosis in instruments (FDI) there are different diagnosis schemes based on the number of observers: the Simplified Observer Scheme (SOS) only requires one observer, uses all the inputs and only one output, detecting faults in one detector; the Dedicated Observer Scheme (DOS), which again uses all the inputs and just one output, but this time there is a bank of observers capable of locating multiple faults in sensors, and the Generalized Observer Scheme (GOS) which involves a reduced bank of observers, where each observer uses all the inputs and m-1 outputs, and allows the localization of unique faults. This work proposes a new scheme named Simplified Interval Observer SIOS-FDI, which does not requires the measurement of any input and just with just one output allows the detection of unique faults in sensors and because it does not require any input, it simplifies in an important way the diagnosis of faults in processes in which it is difficult to measure all the inputs, as in the case of biologic reactors
