La competencia mediática como reto para la educomunicación: instrumentos de evaluación

Technological advances make new resources available to educational agents in order to enhance learning, but their use requires developing basic competencies or skills in students and is a challenge to the entire educational community. In this context, media competence becomes fundamental for encouraging responsible, efficient and democratic use of media resources by citizens. Here we present the results of a research project carried out in Spain, in which various instruments were designed to assess the media competence of students, teachers and parents. Its application has revealed that we are in an extraordinary moment to take advantage of media resources towards improving the educational process, although it is clear that the fact of being surrounded by media and technologies does not mean that we are competent in their use. This leads us to emphasize the importance of the inclusion of media education into the school curriculum from the earliest ages

Opportunities for considering green infrastructure and ecosystems in the Sendai Framework Monitor

Ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction has gained attention to complement or replace grey infrastructure. The paper explores ways in which ecosystems and green infrastructure (GI) are critical infrastructure in the context of disaster risk reduction to report respective losses in the Sendai Framework Monitor (SFM). We argue that reporting on GI under indicators D-4 and C-5 in the SFM represent an opportunity for tracking losses, yet do not provide direct information on progress made in reducing risk. Custom targets and indicators according to countries' needs within the SFM might be a more practical opportunity to report on both losses and progress

El desarrollo de este proyecto surgió de la necesidad que se presenta en la empresa de generalizar el conocimiento que se debe de tener acerca de las implicaciones existentes en los procesos de importación que se deben llevar a cabo en México con el fin de agilizar los procesos logísticos de la empresa. Uno de los principales objetivos de este proyecto estuvo enfocado en encontrar la manera de plasmar el proceso de importación de mercancías y explicarlo de una forma lo más entendible y sencillo posible, esto con el fin de que cualquier persona (que tenga o no conocimientos previos acerca de este tema) pueda comprenderlo a su totalidad y le sea útil para tener una idea más amplia acerca de los trámites y procesos necesarios para lograr un correcto despacho aduanero en México. La manera en la que se logró explicar con mayor detalle este proceso, fue realizando un diagrama de flujo en el que se explican todos los procedimientos que se deben llevar a cabo con el fin de completar una importación al territorio mexicano; este diagrama fue hecho específicamente para la empresa, por lo que está adaptado a la forma en la que esta usualmente realiza sus importaciones, especificando paso a paso los procedimientos a realizarse, el encargado de cada procedimiento y los tiempos aproximados que se deben destinar para completar cada uno de los pasos a seguir. De igual manera, con el fin de lograr una adaptación lo más enfocada posible a este proyecto, se trabajó previamente en un análisis de información de distintos aspectos de la empresa, como lo son: situación actual de la empresa, principales productos importados sus especificaciones, rutas logísticas que se utilizan y la manera en la que actualmente llevan a cabo sus procesos aduanales en México.ITESO, A.C

El grupo de trabajo que ha elaborado el presente documento está formado, en su totalidad, por funcionarios adscritos al CSIC pertenecientes a las escalas de Titulados Superiores Especializados y Técnicos Especialistas de Grado Medio de los OPIs, con titulaciones universitarias (Licenciados, Ingenieros, Ingenieros Técnicos) e incluso grado de Doctor.Tras la reunión mantenida en Madrid el día 18 de enero de 2005 por un grupo de 9 personas pertenecientes a las Escalas de Técnicos Especialistas de Grado Medio (antes denominados Titulados Técnicos Especializados) y Titulados Superiores del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), con el Excmo. Sr. Secretario de Estado de Universidades e Investigación del Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, D. Salvador Ordóñez Delgado, se ha elaborado el presente informe sobre la situación actual, propuestas de modificación sobre la promoción profesional y retribución económica de las Escalas Técnicas del CSIC, por petición expresa del Excmo. Sr. Secretario de Estado. En este informe se detalla la problemática que nos llevo a solicitar dicha reunión, y se presenta una propuesta de modificación de la actual RPT junto con una vía de promoción profesional y económica, con el debido reconocimiento del trabajo desarrollado por las Escalas Técnicas, tan poco reconocido dentro del máximo organismo de investigación en España, como es el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas.Peer reviewe

Encapsulation of bioactive compounds of food interest: applications, current advances, challenges, and opportunities.

Objective: The encapsulation of bioactive compounds of food interest provide protection against ambiental factors and degradation reactions. Therefore, the encapsulation of these compounds, was studied and analyzed considering the applications, current advances, challenges, and opportunities on the topic. Design/methodology/approach: Wall materials, bioactive compounds of food interest, encapsulation methods, applications, current advances, challenges, and opportunities in encapsulation of bioactive compounds were explored, described, and discussed considering the principal literature on the topic, and scientific databases were used for the bibliographic research. Results: Encapsulation process is a novel technology that allows the increasing the stability of aromas, flavors, pigments, and microorganisms, beside of improve the sensory, physical chemical and functional properties, quality, and the extend the shelf-life. Limitations on study/implications: Foods contain bioactive compounds that are susceptible to oxidation and degradation, which can reduce their quality and shelf life. To preserve these compounds, is important to develop other encapsulation systems considering alternative wall materials from different sources that can be applied under different process conditions from laboratory, pilot to industrial scale.  Findings/conclusions: Encapsulation process provide protection to bioactive compounds enhancing the sensory, physical chemical and functional properties, quality, and extend the shelf-life considering the integral and sustainable use of agricultural products

Stability of schizophrenia diagnosis in a ten-year longitudinal study on first episode of non-affective psychosis: conclusions from the PAFIP cohort

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the ten-year stability of schizophrenia diagnosis in a cohort of first-episode psychosis (FEP) patients and the factors associated with it. METHODS: Changes in diagnosis of 209 FEP patients were described during ten years of follow-up. Related factors with maintenance or change of schizophrenia diagnosis were evaluated in prospective and retrospective approaches through Binary Logistic Regressions, ROC and survival curves. RESULTS: Out of the 209 patients, 126 were diagnosed of schizophrenia six months after their inclusion in the clinical program. Prospective analyses showed that eight of those 126 schizophrenia patients had changed to a different diagnosis after ten years, and predictors of change were better childhood premorbid adjustment, less severity of clinical global impression at baseline, and diagnosis of comorbid personality disorder during follow-up. Retrospectively, out of the 154 patients with schizophrenia in the ten-year assessment, 36 had a different diagnosis at baseline, and those factors related with a different prior diagnosis than schizophrenia were better socioeconomic status and shorter duration of untreated psychosis (DUP). A survival analysis on the timing of schizophrenia diagnosis showed that male gender and longer DUP were predictors of earlier definite diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS: Diagnostic stability of schizophrenia in our FEP sample is high, especially prospective stability, and the group of patients with diagnostic change corresponded to a milder psychopathological profile before and at the onset of disease.
