Method of construction of a multi-cell solar array

    Get PDF
The method of constructing a high voltage, low power, multicell solar array is described. A solar cell base region is formed in a substrate such as but not limited to silicon or sapphire. A protective coating is applied on the base and a patterned etching of the coating and base forms discrete base regions. A semiconductive junction and upper active region are formed in each base region, and defined by photolithography. Thus, discrete cells which are interconnected by metallic electrodes are formed

Multilevel metallization method for fabricating a metal oxide semiconductor device

    Get PDF
An improved method is described of constructing a metal oxide semiconductor device having multiple layers of metal deposited by dc magnetron sputtering at low dc voltages and low substrate temperatures. The method provides multilevel interconnections and cross over between individual circuit elements in integrated circuits without significantly reducing the reliability or seriously affecting the yield

High and low threshold P-channel metal oxide semiconductor process and description of microelectronics facility

    Get PDF
The fabrication techniques and detail procedures for creating P-channel Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (P-MOS) integrated circuits at George C. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) are described. Examples of P-MOS integrated circuits fabricated at MSFC together with functional descriptions of each are given. Typical electrical characteristics of high and low threshold P-MOS discrete devices under given conditions are provided. A general description of MSFC design, mask making, packaging, and testing procedures is included. The capabilities described in this report are being utilized in: (1) research and development of new technology, (2) education of individuals in the various disciplines and technologies of the field of microelectronics, and (3) fabrication of many types of specially designed integrated circuits which are not commercially feasible in small quantities for in-house research and development programs

Silver-Coated Colloidosomes as Carriers for an Anticancer Drug.

Small drug molecules are widely developed and used in the pharmaceutical industry. In the past few years, loading and delivering such molecules using polymer-shell colloidosomes has attracted interest. Traditional polymer capsules fail to encapsulate low-molecular-weight materials for long times, since they are inherently porous and permeable for small molecules. In this paper, we report a method for encapsulating an anticancer drug with small molecule weight, for cell viability tests. The silver-coated colloidosomes are prepared by making an aqueous core capsule with a polymer shell and then adding AgNO3, surfactant, and l-ascorbic acid to form a second shell. The capsules are impermeable and can be triggered using ultrasound. We propose to use the capsules as drug carriers. The silver demonstrates a low cytotoxicity for up to 10 capsules per cell. After the silver shells are triggered by ultrasound, the released doxorubicin, the broken silver fragments, and the doxorubicin loading on the capsule surface all kill cells. The results demonstrate a nonpermeable silver-shell microcapsule with ultrasound sensitivity for potential medical applications

Dynamics of the Tippe Top via Routhian Reduction

We consider a tippe top modeled as an eccentric sphere, spinning on a horizontal table and subject to a sliding friction. Ignoring translational effects, we show that the system is reducible using a Routhian reduction technique. The reduced system is a two dimensional system of second order differential equations, that allows an elegant and compact way to retrieve the classification of tippe tops in six groups as proposed in [1] according to the existence and stability type of the steady states.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures, added reference. Project MOSI: rationale and pilot-study results of an initiative to help protect zoo animals from mosquito-transmitted pathogens and contribute data on mosquito spatio–temporal distribution change

    Get PDF
Mosquito-borne pathogens pose major threats to both wildlife and human health and, largely as a result of unintentional human-aided dispersal of their vector species, their cumulative threat is on the rise. Anthropogenic climate change is expected to be an increasingly significant driver of mosquito dispersal and associated disease spread. The potential health implications of changes in the spatio-temporal distribution of mosquitoes highlight the importance of ongoing surveillance and, where necessary, vector control and other health-management measures. The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums initiative, Project MOSI, was established to help protect vulnerable wildlife species in zoological facilities from mosquito-transmitted pathogens by establishing a zoo-based network of fixed mosquito monitoring sites to assist wildlife health management and contribute data on mosquito spatio-temporal distribution changes. A pilot study for Project MOSI is described here, including project rationale and results that confirm the feasibility of conducting basic standardized year-round mosquito trapping and monitoring in a zoo environment
