    This paper is concerned with four main aspects or parts of forensic linguistics: Forensic linguistics in speech mode and in writing, the special status of Arabic, linguistic problems and possibilities of translation for forensics, and Language Analysis for Determination of Origin (LADO). After presenting these issues in the introduction, we describe the language situation of Arabic, mainly in Israel, in the context of these four issues. The discussion is based on the literature concerning problems of translation and LADO in courts of justice in various countries, including Israel. We consider LADO as a developing field of forensic linguistics, and demonstrate by examples some problems that may rise from speech recordings of Arabic speaking asylum seekers. Based on this survey, we point out in the conclusion some research needs of general forensic linguistics and Arabic related forensic linguistics.Artykuł koncentruje się na czterech aspektach lingwistyki sądowej: lingwistyka sądowa jako sposób formułowania treści mówionych i pisanych, szczególny status języka arabskiego, problemy lingwistyczne i możliwości tłumaczenia w sądach, zastosowanie analizy językowej do ustalenia pochodzenia.     Attenuation of Noise and Vibration Caused by Underground Trains

    Abstract Tunnels are used to convey transportation in dense urban areas, especially by underground trains. Underground trains radiate noise and vibration by airborne sound and by transmission of vibration through the rails to the surrounding ground. The acoustic wave propagates through the ground, being transmitted by soil-structure interactions to nearby buildings. The transportation induced vibrations add to the static and other types of loads, and their specific spectral features are well distinguished and perceived as nuisance to people. The disturbing effect caused by these solid borne vibrations can be significantly mitigated by soil replacement of the material under the rails. This technique, which was described in previous publications by the authors, is further developed and analyzed here by modeling and numerical analysis, for underground applications. Illustrative examples show through spectral analysis the role of soil replacement, avoiding sound bridges. In this context, the required thickness of the soil replacement layer was considered. It is shown that a 0.5 m thick layer may be sufficient for most practical purposes

    In this paper we study the interaction between two-level atom and quantized single-mode field, namely, Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM). The field and the atom are initially prepared in the binomial state and the excited atomic state, respectively. For this system we prove that the revival-collapse phenomenon exhibited in the atomic inversion of the standard JCM can be numerically (naturally) manifested in the evolution of the squeezing factor of the three-photon (standard) JCM provided that the initial photon-number distribution of the radiation has a smooth envelope.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, Comments are most welcom

    Quantum phase properties of two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model for Schr\"odinger-cat states: interference and entanglement

    In this paper we investigate the quantum phase properties for the coherent superposition states (Schr\"odinger-cat states) for two-mode multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings model in the framework of the Pegg-Barnett formalism. We also demonstrate the behavior of the Wigner (WW) function at the phase space origin. We obtain many interesting results such as there is a clear relationship between the revival-collapse phenomenon occurring in the atomic inversion (as well as in the evolution of the WW function) and the behavior of the phase distribution of both the single-mode and two-mode cases. Furthermore, we find that the phase variances of the single-mode case can exhibit revival-collapse phenomenon about the long-time behavior. We show that such behavior occurs for interaction time several times smaller than that of the single-mode Jaynes-Cummings model.Comment: 23, 8 figure
