Las profesiones de los metecos en el texto y en la imagen

Los textos y la iconografía de los monumentos funerarios son una fuente parcial de información sobre los oficios ejercidos por los metecos en Atenas. De las referencias se deduce que las profesiones de estos extranjeros afincados no respondían a un modelo único, sino que junto a casos en los que se alude a profesiones de prestigio, en otros son mencionados oficios humildes. Lo que sí es común a todos ellos es el orgullo manifestado por la familia del muerto (a veces en boca del propio difunto) respecto a su excelencia en la profesión ejercida, lo que constituye a menudo el motivo central en los epitafios que adoptan la forma de epigrama. Destacan los dedicados a nodrizas. Su influencia en el ámbito familiar, y sus estrechas relaciones con la familia a la que habían servido en vida, se manifiestan también en el hecho de ser esta familia la que les dedica el monumento.The texts and the iconography of funerary monuments are a partial source of information on the professions of metics in Athens. Las inscripciones funerarias atenienses aportan testimonios directos e indirectos sobre las prin¬cipales instituciones de integración de extranjeros en la polis. En este artículo se presenta una selección de los epígrafes más significativos. En primer lugar, aquellos que incluyen las menciones más antiguas en Atenas del término próxeno (πρόξενος) y meteco (μέτοικος). En segundo lugar, las inscripciones dedicadas a isoteleîs, en las que se puede observar la transmisión del privilegio dentro de una misma familia, aunque sólo a través de la línea masculina. Epigrafia funerària d'estrangers a Atenes (s. VI-IV aC.) : catàleg i comentari formal i institucional de les inscripcions /

Consultable des del TDXTítol obtingut de la portada digitalitzadaAquesta tesis doctoral persegueix un doble objectiu. En primer lloc, aportar un corpus tan complet com sigui possible de les inscripcions funeràries ateneses dedicades a estrangers i datades entre els segles VI i IV aC. En segon lloc, l'anàlisi d'aquestes inscripcions tant des del punt de vista lingüístic i formal com el político-institucional. El corpus recull 486 inscripcions i presenta, a més del text de l'epígraf, una traducció al català, descripció de la iconografia i de les característiques epigràfiques, una presentació esquemàtica dels fets lingüístics més destacables, i un comentari de contingut filològic i político-institucional. En cada un d'aquests comentaris, s'hi mostren els diferents processos d'adaptació dels estrangers a la polis atenesa. Una segona part del treball aprofundeix en l'anàlisi formal de les inscripcions, tant lingüístic com estilístic. S'analitzen detalladament l'ús dels diferents dialectes grecs, tenint sempre en compte l'avanç de la koiné hel·lenística, el grau de coneixement de la llengua i la cultura gregues en les persones d'origen no grec, les característiques específiques de la llengua dels epigrames, i la presència d'alfabets distints al jònic. El treball el completen dos índex onomàstics, un d'antropònims i un d'ètnics, així com una selecció fotogràfica d'alguns dels monuments estudiats.The aim of this Doctoral Thesis is double. First, to offer a corpus of all athenian funerary inscriptions for foreigners between the VI and IV century B.C. Secondly, the study of these inscriptions both from the linguistic and the political point of view. The present corpus contains 486 inscriptions and it presents, among the text, a catalan translation, descriptions of the iconographical and epigraphically characteristics, a schema of the most important linguistic items, and a philological and political commentary. In these commentaries we focus especially on the integration processes for foreigners in the Athenian city. The second part of this work is dedicated to study the formal aspects of the inscriptions, in their linguistic and stylistic aspects. We focus on the use of the diverse greek dialects, always comparing them with the development of the Hellenistic koiné, the grade of knowledge about greek language and culture in no-greek foreigners, the specificity of the language in epigrams, and the non-ionic alphabets found. The whole work is completed with two onomastic indexes, one for anthroponyms, and another for ethnics, and a selection of photographies of the studied monuments

Mujeres extranjeras en los epitafios atenienses

En este artículo se analizan las inscripciones funerarias atenienses para mujeres extranjeras como fuente sobre su estatuto jurídico-social en los siglos V y IV a.C. Los textos de los epitafios junto con la iconografía de los monumentos y su contexto arqueológico aportan informaciones sobre las estructuras familiares, el tiempo de estancia en Atenas, la escala de valores, su posición social y profesional, y su participación en la vida pública. Se comparan algunos de estos aspectos con los que conocemos respecto a las mujeres atenienses.The funerary inscriptions for foreign women in Athens can be used as a source on their juridical and social status. The texts of the epitaphs along with the iconography of the monuments and their archaeological context give information on familiar structures, the time of stay in Athens, their scale of values, their social and professional position and their place in the public life of the polis. Some of these aspects are compared with our knowledge about the Athenian women

Sobre un testimoni de matrimoni entre una estrangera i un ciutadà d'Atenes

Un epitafi procedent d'Atenes documenta un matrimoni entre una tebana i un ciutadà atenès. Tot i que la inscripció fou datada a la segona meitat del segle IV aC, es proposa aquí, a partir d'una anàlisi de la llengua, una datació més tardana entre el final de segle IV i la meitat del segle III aC. Tot seguit es contrasta la inscripció amb els testimonis de legislació atenesa sobre matrimonis entre estrangers i ciutadans.An epitaph from Athens documents a marriage between a Theban woman and an Athenian citizen. Even though the inscription is dated in the second half of the 4th century B.C., a later date between the end of the 4th and the middle of the 3rd century B.C. is proposed here due to a linguistic analysis. After this, the inscription is contrasted with testimonials of Athenian legislation regarding marriages between foreigners and citizen

MRI/Photoluminescence Dual-Modal Imaging Magnetic PLGA Nanocapsules for Theranostics

Developing multifunctional and biocompatible drug delivery nanoplatforms that integrate high drug loads and multiple imaging modalities avoiding cross-interferences is extremely challenging. Here we report on the successful chemical reaction of the high quantum yield biodegradable and photoluminescent polyester (BPLP) with the poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) polymer to fabricate biocompatible photoluminescent nanocapsules (NCs). Furthermore, we transform the PLGA-BPLP NCs into a magnetic resonance (MR)/photoluminescence dual-modal imaging theranostic platform by incorporating superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) into the polymeric shell. In vitro phantoms confirmed the excellent MRI-r2 relaxivity values of the NCs whilst the cellular uptake of these NCs was clearly observed by fluorescence optical imaging. Besides, the NCs (mean size ~270 nm) were loaded with ~1 wt% of a model protein (BSA) and their PEGylation provided a more hydrophilic surface. The NCs show biocompatibility in vitro, as hCMEC/D3 endothelial cells viability was not affected for particle concentration up to 500 μg/mL. Membrane binding by CHMP7 coordinates ESCRT-III dependent nuclear envelope reformation

SummaryIn addition to its role in membrane abscission during cytokinesis, viral budding, endosomal sorting, and plasma membrane repair [1], the endosomal sorting complex required for transport-III (ESCRT-III) machinery has recently been shown to seal holes in the reforming nuclear envelope (NE) during mitotic exit [2, 3]. ESCRT-III also acts during interphase to repair the NE upon migration-induced rupture [4, 5], highlighting its key role as an orchestrator of membrane integrity at this organelle. While NE localization of ESCRT-III is dependent upon the ESCRT-III component CHMP7 [3], it is unclear how this complex is able to engage nuclear membranes. Here we show that the N terminus of CHMP7 acts as a novel membrane-binding module. This membrane-binding ability allows CHMP7 to bind to the ER, an organelle continuous with the NE, and it provides a platform to direct NE recruitment of ESCRT-III during mitotic exit. CHMP7’s N terminus comprises tandem Winged-Helix domains [6], and, by using homology modeling and structure-function analysis, we identify point mutations that disrupt membrane binding and prevent both ER localization of CHMP7 and its subsequent enrichment at the reforming NE. These mutations also prevent assembly of downstream ESCRT-III components at the reforming NE and proper establishment of post-mitotic nucleo-cytoplasmic compartmentalization. These data identify a novel membrane-binding activity within an ESCRT-III subunit that is essential for post-mitotic nuclear regeneration
