Seasonal labour is the most profitable use of labour in broadacre crop dominant farms

Labour scarcity and affordability have encouraged many farmers in Western Australia to focus more on cropping than sheep production. Many farmers are opting to run low input livestock systems. This paper examines labour demand for sheep and cropping during the production year, combined with various scenarios of labour availability and cost. The implications for farm profitability and enterprise selection are examined using the bio-economic farming systems model MIDAS (Model of an Integrated Dryland Agricultural System). Labour requirements for sheep are far greater than those for cropping. Additionally the labour requirements for sheep are high in all production periods whilst the seasonal nature of cropping means more time is required only at certain times of the year, particularly at seeding and harvest. This means that the most profitable labour option is employing casual labour during periods of peak demand for cropping. The lesser relative profitability of the sheep enterprise makes employing a permanent worker the least profitable labour option. By contrast, employing casual labour during busy periods for cropping is more profitable but it is also associated with only small areas of perennial pastures being sown which has environmental implications. The logistics of employing labour at only certain times of the year compared to employing a full time worker means that farmers need to pay more per week to employ these workers or do the extra work themselves.agriculture, labour, farm modelling, cropping, sheep,

Evaluation of Lifetimewool: 2008 national farmer survey results

Key components of the lifetimewool evaluation plan were two National producer surveys to quantify change in the knowledge, attitudes, skills and aspirations over the duration of the project. In 2005, 2032 wool producers were surveyed to establish a benchmark for ewe and pasture management practices, knowledge and willingness to change. At that time, 93% of those who were surveyed said that they were willing to be resurveyed in 2008 at the completion of the project. This has allowed lifetimewool to compare individual producers’ changes in practices, knowledge and willingness over the three years that the communication and adoption phase of the project was implemented. Overall, a total of 1295 producers provided feedback to both the 2005 and 2008 questionnaires, providing a large sample from which to draw conclusions on. This report shows what those changes have been

Attachment Aware Schools:Working with Families to Enhance Parental Engagement and Home-School Relationships

Background:- Application of attachment theory in school contexts lacks empirical evidence. The Attachment Aware Schools pilot project was commissioned by two Local Authorities in England to improve the educational outcomes of Looked After Children, and to build an evidence base. Informed by attachment research, Attachment Aware Schools programs provide a coherent and integrated theoretical framework, discourse, and practice for all practitioners working with children and young people. Objective:- The primary focus was to provide whole school and targeted attachment-based strategies to support children’s well-being, behaviour, and academic attainment. This paper; however, documents a secondary objective, which was to facilitate collaborative partnerships with families. Method:- As part of the mixed methods approach to the Attachment Aware Schools project, a series of case studies were collected and thematically coded. The case studies were generated by practitioners using an outcomes-based framework. Results:- Although the case study sample size is small (N=10), the case studies presented here illustrate how Attachment Aware Schools programs can promote increased home-school engagement and shared practice between home and school. Outcomes include improved home-school relationships, reductions in behavioral incidents, and improved family dynamics. Conclusion:- Attachment Aware Schools can be a vehicle for facilitating supportive home-school collaborative partnerships with positive outcomes for vulnerable children and young people

This study is part of a Brazilian research project made by the Working Group (WG) “Psychoanalysis and Education” of the Psychology Research and Graduate National Association (ANPEPP). In 2015, this WG produced and disseminated a big data survey of different Brazilian regions aiming to create a national portrait of the Psychoanalysis and Education field. This effort, which is a result of other similar movements in the area, provided us with a snapshot of the research investigations, as well as the methodologies used by the different Research Centers and Laboratories involved with the theme in the different regions of the country. Seeking to continue conducting the most expressive studies on this theme, our objectives are: trace an overview of the Psychoanalysis and Education academic production circumscribed in the period from January 2020 to August 2016; identify and question the main theoretical axis researched in the field; organize and potentialize articulations among the different researchers of the area. For this purpose, we use the bibliographic survey as a methodological strategy in order to present an overview of academic production. We understand that it is important to deepen the overview of the Psychoanalysis and Education field in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, since this region has been implicated in different production waves throughout the recent years. With these efforts done, our goal is to create a bigger working synergy among the field researchers, to understand future possibilities in the area, to facilitate exchanges between the subjects, to think over the enlargement of the field with more density, to trace possible methodological paths and achieve some improvement in the quality of the researches.
