Assessment of Trauma-Informed Care in Sonoma County through ACES Connection

    Get PDF
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are stressful or traumatic events that include abuse and neglect. These events also include household dysfunctions such as domestic violence and substance abuse disorders within a household. Other events that fall under ACEs include sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, parental separation, intimate partner violence, etc. (SAMSHA, n.d.). Multiple studies have shown that adverse experiences that result in trauma are linked to poor long-term health outcomes. Trauma-informed care practices are essential to aiding victims in building resilience to trauma. The Road to Resilience (n.d.) defines resilience as the ability to adapt or cope with trauma, adversity, family and health problems. Trauma-informed care is a strength-based tool that is used by health professionals to help trauma survivors empower themselves and regain control over their lives (Mental Health Coordinating Council, n.d.).The purpose of this assessment was to learn how health and social service providers involved with the Sonoma County ACES Connection Coalition are implementing trauma-informed care. Six subjects participated in the study. Four individuals filled out a survey containing 10 close-ended milestone questions and 8 open-ended questions while two participated in semi-structured interviews answering the same questions. Survey results found that 17% of the participants did administer ACEs and resilience surveys to their clients while 83% did not. In the assessment, 50% percent of the participants reported that they worked in an organization that integrated policies and trauma-informed care, 33.3% did not, and 17% reported if they did or did not. Participants reported that more human resource policies need to be integrated into trauma-informed care. Others stated that trauma-informed care was not implemented in county government agencies since the current policies were strict. Participants also reported that more outcomes research was needed to evaluate the effectiveness of trauma-informed care. The ACEs screening tool was used by some organizations while others did not utilize the tool. Findings suggest that policies are needed to frame how trauma-informed care practices are implemented at the organizational level. More outcomes research should be conducted to see if trauma-informed care improves client quality of life

Structure-activity relationships of synthetic analogs of jasmonic acid and coronatine on induction of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloid accumulation in Eschscholzia californica cell cultures

    Get PDF
A facile test system based on the accumulation of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids in Eschscholzia californica cell suspension culture (an indicator of defense gene activation) has been used to analyze a series of synthetic compounds for elicitor-like activity. Of the 200 jasmonic acid and coronatine analogs tested with this system, representative results obtained with 49 of them are presented here. The following can be summarized concerning structure-actvity relationships: there is a large degree of plasticity allowed at the C-3 of jasmonic acid in the activation of defense genes. The carbonyl moiety is not strictly required, but exocyclic double bond character appears necessary. The pentenyl side chain at C-2 cannot tolerate bulky groups at the terminal carbon and still be biologically active. Substitutions to the C-1' position are tolerated if they can potentially undergo beta-oxidation. Either an alkanoic acid or methyl ester is required at c-l, or a side chain that can be shortened by beta-oxidation or by peptidase hydrolysis. Coronatine and various derivatives thereof are not as effective as jasmonic acid, and derivatives in inducing benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloid accumulation. Jasmonic acid rather than the octadecanoic precursors is therefore considered to be a likely signal transducer of defense gene activation in planta

Effect of arsenic on assay for gold and silver

In presenting the within thesis, it is not claimed by the authors that the experiments have been, by any means, exhaustive of the subject. Neither is any claim made to original research work other than a series of simple experiments with a view to determining, if possible, some of the more important effects of Arsenic upon a fire assay for gold and silver as met with in the ordinary assay laboratory. To make a work complete and exhaustive on such a subject will require much more time and more complete apparatus than was available in the experiments covered by this thesis. The experiments have been intended to cover both fusion by crucible, and cupellation, as well as the wet assay of slags, cupels and lead buttons. Briefly stated, the problem presented in this paper is to locate the sources of loss in a fire assay for gold and silver, due to the impurity, Arsenic, and its compounds, and to ascertain, if possible, the remedy for those losses. The solution of the problem is proposed by means of the scheme outlined in the following flow sheet:- --Page 1

Strategy Management for Guyana’s Public Investment Projects Fulfillment

    Get PDF
The public sector investment program (PSIP) hinges on the proper alignment of government strategies with project outcomes. The contingency theory offers insights for alignment in adopting the best project management approach. Yet, some of Guyana’s PSIP managers struggle with alignment for the success of their projects. Using the contingency theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore strategies PSIP managers used to align project outcomes with government strategies. Data collection was through the reviewed documentation and semistructured interviews with five successful managers who work for four project-based organizations in Demerara/Mahaica, Guyana. Yin’s 5-step process was used to analyze the data. Four themes emerged: government/executive commitment and support for the project teams, efficient project management skills, aligning national strategy with project processes, and managing public project processes with information communication technologies. A key recommendation is for project executives to develop new project management paths for improved project performance fused with a portfolio intended to improve citizens\u27 standard of living. The implications for positive social change include the potential for knowledge sharing among project practitioners and policymakers. Successful project outcomes may result in competitive advantages for those other businesses linked to public investment, enhancing citizens\u27 social well-bein

Eje ferroviario "wheelset": metodología para el cálculo del factor de intensidad de tensiones usando Abaqus I

    Get PDF

[EN] This work is an approximation to the current state of debate within the theories of legal argumentation through the positions of two Spanish philosophers (Manuel Atienza and Juan Antonio García Amado) who, in addition to being relevant, maintain diverse viewpoints. This work mostly consists of a reconstruction and systematization of the debate between the two philosophers that took place in the networks, using for the characterization of their positions, material exclusively found in the network, specifically material from the blogs of both authors. The first part explains the general approach of each of the philosophers on legal argumentation. The second part addresses its specific positions in the following key issues: the old dispute between legal positivism and natural law, the treatment of gaps, judicial discretion and, finally, the existence of objective moral values
