Agua, Poder y Discursos: Conflictos Socio-territoriales por la construcción de centrales hidroeléctricas en la Patagonia Chilena

Chile is going to celebrate soon two hundred years of republican life and thirty five years of the application of a neoliberal economic model, in respect of which there are a lot of conflicts related with the land/capital dicotomy and water like a main resource. One of these conflicts is currently taking place in Chilean Patagonia, where, as a direct result of water privatization, a large hydropower project, supported by transnational companies collisions with traditional production and highly environmental quality landscapes.Chile está próximo a celebrar su Bicentenario de vida republicana y sus treinta y cinco años desde la aplicación de un estricto modelo económico neoliberal, donde han surgido numerosos conflictos que involucran a la dicotomía capital/territorio y que implican al agua como recurso principal. El estudio del Capital Social ha tomado fuerza en los últimos años. Sin embargo, el Concepto aun se nos muestra difuso, abarcando una serie de otros conceptos como asociatividad, cooperación, confianza, redes sociales y participación. Para fortalecer al Capital Social proponemos operacionalizar el concepto de arraigo socioproductivo, vinculando el análisis de redes sociales a actividades productivas específicas a través de la construcción de índices.The study of the Social Capital has taken force in the last years. Topoclimatología cultural y ciclos hidrosociales de las comunidades andinas chilenas: híbridos geográficos para la ordenación de los territorios

Chile y América Latina enfrentan demandas de ordenamiento territorial como consecuencia de las configuraciones espaciales del neoliberalismo: extractivismo, “comodificación” y privatización de recursos y territorios. La geografía está desarrollando perspectivas que superan la dicotomía sociedad-naturaleza, representada por el estudio independiente de las geografías física y humana, mediante la incorporación de conceptos híbridos que reinterpretan el clima, el agua y el territorio. En este artículo se discute como los pueblos andinos del norte de Chile han construido social y culturalmente territorios que sintetizan interacciones entre componentes naturales, sociales y metafísicos, materiales y simbólicos, empleados en el conocimiento, interpretación y gestión de la enorme variabilidad e incertidumbre que caracteriza a sus topoclimas y recursos hídricos, apreciados como manifestación de diversidad, complejidad y riqueza.Chile and Latin America are currently facing land-use demands as a result of neoliberal spatial configurations, namely, extractivism, commodification, and privatization of resources and territories. By incorporating hybrid concepts that reinterpret climate, water, and territory, geography is developing perspectives that overcome the society-nature dichotomy resulting from the separation of physical and human geography. The article discusses the way the indigenous Andean peoples of northern Chile have achieved the social and cultural construction of territories by synthesizing interactions among natural, social and metaphysical, as well as material and symbolic components. These elements are used to acquire knowledge, interpret, and manage the enormous variability and uncertainty that characterizes their topoclimates and hydric resources, which are considered to be an expression of diversity, complexity, and richness.O Chile e a América Latina enfrentam demandas por ordenamento territorial como consequência das configurações espaciais do neoliberalismo: o extrativismo, a “comodificação” e a privatização de recursos e territórios. Reflections on a failed participatory workshop in Northern Chile: Negotiating boycotts, benefits, and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People

In this paper, we critically analyse our experiences of initiating participatory research in the challenging context of the Atacama Desert, Northern Chile. We use our experience of organising participatory workshops with Aymara and Quechua women community leaders to reflect on the politics of participation/non-participation, and explore these experiences in light of our multiple and overlapping positionalities as Chilean/British, male/female, white/mestizo. In the light of one workshop being entirely unsuccessful, we discuss the ways in which our empirical and methodological thinking has nevertheless been enriched by this experience. We situate the challenges we faced in relation to negotiating the tensions presented by debates on decolonising research from our positions within the neoliberal academy, exploring the questions raised by indigenous women activists' research ‘refusal’, and critically reflect upon the emotional responses this situation elicited in each of us. We argue for the importance of embracing such apparent fieldwork ‘failures’ and, recognising the resulting emotional swirl of panic, anxiety and inadequacy that they produce, emphasise these experiences as illustrative of the inherent tensions around decolonising research, as well as an often inevitable element of conducting research with marginalised communities involved in socio-environmental conflicts

Preparation of sports centers staff in case of sudden cardiac arrest

La investigación tiene como objetivo identificar la preparación del personal que labora en los gimnasios y centros deportivos para proporcionar reanimación cardiopulmonar ante un ataque cardiaco súbito. Se obtuvo una muestra aleatoria para aplicar una encuesta a 12 centros deportivos en Hermosillo, Sonora, México. El 58,33 % de los responsables de los centros deportivos confirmaron que cuentan con personal capacitado en reanimación cardiopulmonar, pero el 100 % del personal desconocen el uso del desfibrilador. Se confirmó que ningún centro deportivo cuenta con desfibrilador para brindar auxilio en caso de paro cardiaco súbito. En el análisis de los planes de estudio de seis carreras relacionadas con la actividad física y deporte, presenta una asignatura optativa sobre primeros auxilios, que incluye como contenido básico la reanimación cardiopulmonar y sólo dos de cada 100 estudiantes de carreras relacionadas con la actividad física y deporte, confirman haber recibido capacitación en la reanimación cardiopulmonar. Se sugiere que el personal que labora en los centros deportivos y gimnasios reciba capacitación sobre las maniobras de reanimación cardiopulmonar y el uso del desfibrilador. Se propone que el 100 % del personal adquiera las destrezas para ejecutar las maniobras de RCP, con base en los parámetros y procedimientos internacionales.The research aims to identify the preparation of personnel working in gyms and sports centers to provide first aid in case of sudden cardiac arrest. A random sample was obtained to implement a survey to 12 sports centers in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. 58,33% of those responsible for sports centers have confirmed that their staff is CPR trained, but 100% of the staff do not know how to use a defibrillator. It was confirmed that no sports center has defibrillator to provide assistance in case of sudden cardiac arrest. In the analysis of curricula, six careers related to physical activity and sport have an elective course on first aids, which includes as basic content CPR and only two out of every 100 students related to physical activity and sport careers, confirmed having received training in CPR. It is suggested that the staff working in the sport and fitness centers receive training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillator use.
