The role of ICT in teacher education. The development of web pages by project method

This paper is a description of an in-service teacher training experience that used ICT to develop a project that involved teachers (nursery and primary) and also children, parents and other members of the educational community. Its aim was to build an Internet site that would give information about school life. It's an open web space where teachers, parents and students can express and share their ideals and activities. This project is still in progress and is being developed in three interconnected phases: conception, development and evaluation. The most important issue to relate is that the technical or instrumental learning is dependent on the ideas and purposes of teachers, students and parents. We believe that when we talk about ICT in schools and also in teacher education we shouldn't only be concerned with the 'means', that is to say, how to introduce computers or how to use a word processor and Internet resources, but also with the 'ends'. Only when we question the ends do we begin to pay attention to what we do, that is, to construct a story that is worth telling " ... to tell that we are merely tools makers (and tools users) is to miss the entire narrative aim? We are world's makers and world's weavers" (Postman, 2002, p. 108)

Nesta comunicação ao primeiro encontro de mestrados em educação, promovido pela Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa, proponho-me refletir sobre a produção de conhecimento profissional dos professores, mais especificamente, sobre os modos como o recurso ao instrumento da escrita potencia essa produção

Desempenho e eficiência nas Forças Armadas

Este trabalho procurou responder ao enorme desafio que constitui a avaliação e adaptação de um modelo de gestão de competências às Forças Armadas, como formato alternativo e mais eficiente na gestão dos seus recursos humanos. Embora este assunto seja absoluta novidade no contexto organizacional militar, pareceu-nos relevante procurar a razão de ser de tal afastamento, pelo que quisemos conhecer a realidade deste modelo de gestão aplicado no mundo organizacional de grandes empresas nacionais e estrangeiras. Percorrendo o trabalho, o leitor encontrará inicialmente a envolvente organizacional às competências, com base num enquadramento conceptual sobre a evolução, perspectivas diferenciadoras e definição das competências. Em seguida, e, à luz das especificidades e realidade actual da gestão de recursos humanos, na organização militar, encontrará justificação para a necessidade e oportunidade de aplicação de um modelo de gestão de competências às Forças Armadas, como ferramenta essencial e complementar às mudanças organizacionais em curso. Relevada essa necessidade, é explicada, depois, a metodologia implementada no levantamento, avaliação e desenvolvimento das diferentes formas de competências, apoiada nas experiências e modelos aplicados nas organizações estudadas, de onde deduzimos contributos aplicáveis à implementação do modelo nas Forças Armadas, visando a melhoria de desempenho e eficiência na organização. O estudo versa ainda uma comparação evidenciando o impacto positivo da aplicação do modelo de gestão de competências nos processos relativos aos recursos humanos, a que associámos uma análise SWOT, relevando os pontos fortes e fracos, oportunidades e ameaças resultantes desta aplicação na Instituição Militar. Em complemento às conclusões que relevam a viabilidade e aplicabilidade de aplicação deste modelo na organização militar, foram formuladas recomendações ao SIGDN e aos Ramos, visando a análise e aprofundamento, em Forum próprio, da racional e pertinência deste assunto aplicado às Forças Armadas. Abstract: This paper aimed for an answer to the enormous challenge that constitutes the evaluation and adaptation of a managerial competences model to the Armed Forces, as an alternative and more efficient format in the management of its human resources. Although this subject is absolute newness in the military´s organizational context, it was considered relevant to look for the reason of such unlike, leading us to better understand the reality of this management´s model when applied in both important national and foreign organizations. Following the study, the reader will find, initially, the involving organizational approach to the competences, on the basis of a conceptual framing on the evolution, different perspectives and definition of the competences. After that, in light of the particularities and current reality of the human resources management, in the military organization, he will find justification for the necessity and momentum of application for a competences managerial model to the Armed Forces, as an essential tool and a complementary support to the ongoing organizational changes. Raised this necessity, it is later explained, the methodology implemented in the survey, evaluation and development of the different forms of competences, supported in the experiences and models applied in the studied organizations, allowing us to deduce applicable contributions to the implementation of the model in the Armed Forces, aiming at the improvement of performance and efficiency in our organization. The study then goes through a comparison evidencing the positive impact of the managerial competences model´s application in the related human resources processes, that we further associated a SWOT analysis, standing out the strong and weak points, opportunities and resultant threats of this application in the Military Institution. In complement to the conclusions that raise the viability and applicability of this model in the military organization, recommendations to the SIGDN and the Service Branches were formulated, aiming at the analysis and the enlightenment, in proper Forum, of the rational and relevancy of this subject applied to the Armed Forces

Design gráfico e processo criativo : o caso de Sebastião Rodrigues

Várias têm sido as tentativas levadas a cabo no sentido de encontrar uma definição global de design gráfico, e de estabelecer uma metodologia, que quando seguida, garanta a obtenção de bons resultados. No entanto, e não obstante a utilidade e importância das metodologias criadas, estas não garantem por si só o sucesso do resultado final. Um projecto de design gráfico é sempre dependente, em maior ou menor grau, de um factor difícil de materializar e explicar, que é a criatividade. Vários têm sido os estudos acerca da criatividade, desenvolvidos, sobretudo, pelas ciências humanas, como a psicologia. Aqui, tentamos perceber a importância da criatividade no processo de concepção em design gráfico. Para melhor entendermos este aspecto, ilustramos o artigo com o método de trabalho de Sebastião Rodrigues, designer gráfico de referência no panorama português, cuja obra constitui exemplo superior de conjugação entre rigor e criatividade

As implicações do Ensino Superior Militar Conjunto

O trabalho aqui realizado tem como objectivo primordial percepcionar “As implicações do Ensino Superior Militar Conjunto”. Para isso seria necessário verificar o estado actual do Ensino Superior Público e particularmente o Ensino Superior Militar na sua vertente de Conjunto. Esse estado actual está intimamente correlacionado com o Paradigma de Bolonha regulado por documentação legal enquadrante vária. Perante tais desenvolvimentos, foi necessário perceber em que medida a estrutura curricular dos cursos foi adequada aos novos parâmetros avaliativos e temporais no respeitante à carga horária necessária por disciplina. Foi ainda necessário pesar o valor dos diversos recursos colocados à disposição, no sentido da criação das condições para a implementação do Ensino Superior Militar Conjunto. Sendo assim, foram analisados os recursos humanos, materiais e financeiros no status quo pré e pós Bolonha. Identificou-se a existência de culturas organizacionais e bem assim, a sua transposição para o meio militar. Aquilatou-se da possível agregação cultural proveniente dum Ensino Conjunto e, por análise agregadora de todos os factores atrás enumerados, verificou-se da pertinência do Ensino Superior Militar Conjunto. Por fim, foram apresentadas algumas recomendações visando o debelar de alguns desvios identificados. Abstract: The work done here primarily aims at perceiving "Implications of Higher Military Joint Education." This would require checking the current state of public higher education and particularly higher education in the side of Military Compound. This current status is closely correlated with the Bologna Paradigm regulated by various legal documents. Given these developments, it was necessary to realize the extent to which the curricular structure of the courses was appropriate to the new parameters of evaluation and time as regards the workload required by discipline. It was also necessary to weigh the value of various resources made available for the creation of conditions for the implementation of the Higher Military Compound. Therefore, we analyzed the human, material and financial status quo before and after Bologna. The study identified the existence of organizational cultures as well as, its implementation in the military. To assess possible aggregation of cultural education from a set, and aggregate analysis of all factors listed above, there was the relevance of Higher Military Compound. Finally, we presented some recommendations to address the risk of identified deviations

Territórios educativos de intervenção prioritária: de onde vêm? para onde vão?

A criação da medida de política educativa (Despacho Normativo n.º 55/2008) - Territórios Educativos de Intervenção Prioritária (TEIP) corresponde à necessidade de concretização de um princípio da Lei de Bases do Sistema Educativo português, visando assegurar uma educação de base para todos, bem sucedida. Esta mesma medida acontece na sequência de uma outra anterior com as mesmas características, criada no ano lectivo de 1996/1997. A sua implementação no terreno foi objecto de um estudo encomendado pelo Instituto de Inovação Educacional no qual participei, integrando uma equipa de investigação da Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Lisboa. Nesta comunicação, proponho-me revisitar esse mesmo estudo, dando conta do balanço crítico então realizado, e, à luz das suas principais conclusões, refletir agora na qualidade de perito externo de um TEIP da região de Lisboa, sobre os modos como os TEIP2 evoluíram, em que sentido se deu tal evolução e quais os problemas que persistem. A consecução de um dos objectivos centrais desta medida de política educativa, especificamente a melhoria da qualidade das aprendizagens traduzida no sucesso educativo dos alunos, parece, de acordo com os relatórios oficiais, não ser ainda muito expressiva nem muito consistente. Torna-se, portanto, necessário interrogar e problematizar as práticas de ensino realizadas pelos professores, repensando estratégias pedagógicas que se configurem relevantes para dar expressão real àquele objectivo.Abstract: The creation of the education policy measure (Despacho Normativo n.º 55/2008) - Territórios Educativos de Intervenção Prioritária (TEIP) - Educational Territories of Priority Intervention matches the need for the implementation of a principle of the "Lei de Bases do Sistema Educativo português", aiming at assuring a successful basic education for everyone. The said measure follows a previous one with the same features, created in the school year of 1996/97. Its implementation on the field was an object of study, by the Instituto de Inovação Educacional (Institute for Educational Innovation), in which I participated, featuring a research team from the Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Lisboa. In this notice I offer to revisit that same study, to emphasize the critical review done back then, and, enlightened by its major conclusions, to think in the quality of external expert of a TEIP in the Lisboa area, about the way how the TEIP2 have evolved, in which sense has the evolution happened and which are the persistent problems. The acquisition of one of the central purposes of this educational policy measure, specifically the improvement of the learning quality which translates into the success of the students, seems, according to the official reports, not yet quite expressive nor consistent. Therefore, it becomes mandatory to question and problematize the teaching practices, rethinking relevant pedagogical strategies to externalize the objective

Producing SA Today

After analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of last year’s production of SA Today, I developed a new structure for the show and its purpose. SA Today is a show produced by CitrusTV for the Syracuse University Student Association, (SA). It serves as a broadcast outlet for SA to better inform and maintain contact with Syracuse University and SUNY E.S.F. students. The show’s purpose has grown under my care. With changes in design, structure, writing style and content value, my team and I have been able to create a new product produced by CitrusTV to better serve our campus viewership. The inclusion of headline local, national and world news into a show strictly dedicated to furthering the outreach of SU’s Student Association has increased the show’s overall value. The creation of new graphics, which are still in the works, are sure to also increase production value. What I hope for next year is to provide SA with a longer show and a redeveloped graphic outlook; this desire has already been expressed and is in the works for the coming semester. I believe that these changes should peak student interest in not only what SA has in the works, but also in the community that surrounds their home on the SU hill

Study of the Refrigeration and Air Filter Systems of Wind Turbine Nacelles in the Desert

In this thesis, the refrigeration and air filtration systems of a nacelle of Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) in desert climates is studied. A comparison between two dust particle filtration systems is performed, in a technical-economical analysis. The solution proposed to improve the air filtration of the refrigeration system consists of, substituting conventional mesh-fiber filters with an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP). To do this some background is given in dust particle filtration efficiency measurement, as well as a methodology to do the comparison. In addition to that, an investigation on the theoretical principles of electrostatic precipitation is given, and based on that, an experimental ESP is designed. The study will focus on a horizontal axis WECS, placed in a desert climate, specifically in the Arabian Desert, where the most suitable location to place a WECS is chosen, and the climatic conditions data for that place is researched.Ingeniería de la Energí

Improve the Performance of Industrial Agents using Fog Computing

In the last decade, the market requirements have been increasing by demanding numerous different products being highly customizable. Given this need, the necessity for dynamic and flexible production lines are a high priority to meet this change. A traditional approach is not enough to meet the market demand and due to this, several paradigms have been coined out to try and solve this problem. The proposed approach is related to communication between the shop-floor modules in order to create different products. This work proposes an architecture where an integration layer will join a Multiagent System capable of the more recent production paradigms with legacy hardware that is present in the more traditional factories in order to have different products being produced in the same production line. This architecture that revolves an interface that can be used by the agents in the factory in order to use the hardware modules to create a different product if need be. The main features of this project is the fact that by using datamodels and an interface created, it can be easily plugged new stations with different tools to modify the product thus increasing the amount of products that can be created
