El Imperio de la Triple Alianza (Tenochtitlan, Texcoco y Tlacopan) en el siglo XXI
Although publication of research about the Mexica Empire has never stopped, this activity increased in the 1980´s, reaching its climax in 1996 with the publication of two major studies on the Aztec Empire (Carrasco 1996 and Berdan et al. 1996). Since that moment, the picture has changed and the study of the empire has moved in several directions; the two main approaches are the spatial and temporal amplification of the field. The first derives from the necessity to carry out regional studies in order to understand the reality of the empire in its periphery, tasks in which archaeology should play an important role. The second approach has a narrow temporal focus on the evolution of the empire—that is, the core and the periphery—and we must include areas which had never been part of the empire. There is a «before» and an «after» in the conquest of the different regions, and we could add a «meanwhile». On the other hand, there is a longer duration in the relationship with older empires like the immediate precedent of Azcapotzalco or other older empires, such as that centered in Teotihuacan. Finally, it is necessary to integrate this research in a common model that works. Only by putting the Aztec Empire in its Mesoamerican context, spatial and temporal, can we progress in its understanding
Simulation of the Landing Buffer of a Three-Legged Jumping Robot
In recent years, the research of planetary exploration robots has become an active field. The jumping robot has become a hot spot in this field. This paper presents a work modelling and simulating a three-legged jumping robot, which has a powerful force, high leaping performance, and good flexibility. In particular, the jumping of the robot was simulated and the landing buffer of the robot was analyzed. Because this jumping robot lacks landing buffer, this paper verifies a method of absorbing landing kinetic energy to improve landing stability and storing it as the energy for the next jump in the simulation. Through the landing simulation, the factors affecting the landing energy absorption are identified. Moreover, the simulation experiment verifies that the application of the intermediate axis theorem helps to absorb more energy and adjust the landing attitude of the robot. The simulation results in this paper can be applied to the optimal design of robot prototypes and provide a theoretical basis for subsequent research
Keck HIRES Spectroscopy of Extragalactic HII Regions: C and O Abundances from Recombination Lines
We present very deep spectrophotometry of 14 bright extragalactic HII regions
belonging to spiral, irregular, and blue compact galaxies. The data for 13
objects were taken with the HIRES echelle spectrograph on the Keck I telescope.
We have measured CII recombination lines in 10 of the objects and OII
recombination lines in 8 of them. We have determined electron temperatures from
line ratios of several ions, specially of low ionization potential ones. We
have found a rather tight linear empirical relation between Te([NII]) and
Te([OIII]). We have found that OII lines give always larger abundances than
[OIII] lines. Moreover, the difference of both O++ abundance determinations
--the so-called abundance discrepancy factor-- is very similar in all the
objects, with a mean value of 0.26+/-0.09 dex, independently of the properties
of the HII region and of the parent galaxy. Using the observed recombination
lines, we have determined the O, C, and C/O radial abundance gradients for 3
spiral galaxies: M33, M101, and NGC2403, finding that C abundance gradients are
always steeper than those of O, producing negative C/O gradients accross the
galactic disks. This result is similar to that found in the Milky Way and has
important implications for chemical evolution models and the nucleosynthesis of

How to limit the use of serum in viral processes: A gibco perspective
Vaccine manufacturing targeting animal and human prophylaxis has been relying heavily on the use of sera to reach adequate titers in mammalian cell culture processes. Safety concerns, lack of process robustness, costs of qualification, supply and storage are some of the main challenges faced while using sera. Taking into account these drawbacks, sera has remained one of the principal raw materials in vaccine manufacturing, but with limited supply worldwide and increased demands, notably from the cell therapy industry, sera’s poor economic predictability might become a major issue on cost of good models required for vaccine viability. Using Gibco’s expertise in designing and manufacturing cell culture media for the past 55 years, we identified 4 approaches to limit the use of serum in viral processes. The first strategy to require limited process rework is by reducing the amount of serum in vaccine manufacturing through use of enriched basal media and/or bovine serum albumin as a substitute. The second option is to identify which step of the manufacturing process actually requires serum supplementation. Indeed, while cell growth in adherent conditions may require sera for expansion, the production phase after infection can sometimes eliminate use of FBS or BSA supplementation, thus simplifying processes and compliance to regulatory guidelines. The third approach, providing virus production is not adherence- dependent, is to adapt the adherent cell line to suspension culture, hence removing the need to provide attachment factors present in sera. Finally, when available, a completely controlled process can be developed using cells adapted to CD media (chemically-defined and protein-free). The Gibco perspective on vaccine technology is to streamline workflows while providing media capabilities to support vaccine manufacturers at large scale. This work will demonstrate that implementing a well-designed strategy to reduce or remove sera from current processes is an effective way to achieve a more robust and scalable viral process

A partir
Tesi
