The attribution of concepts and theoretical notions to different disciplinary areas is one of the challenges in the teaching and learning processes in schools. This work explores an interdisciplinary approach in the didactic implementation of the study of the photosynthesis process in high schools or in technical courses integrated with high schools. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate how interdisciplinarity can be incorporated into the didactic sequence for in-class teaching, as well as for remote teaching, without the loss of dynamics and efficiency in the teaching and learning process. The didactic sequence and the remote learning activity were based on the main concepts of the psychological theories of Ausubel, Moreira and Vygotsky as well as the educational theories of Moreira and Lipman proposed for the construction of critical meaningful learning. To organize and evaluate the learning process, Novak's conceptual map was selected and applied. The obtained results show a sufficient level of learning of the studied concepts of photosynthesis and also the students' adaptation to the teaching and learning method from the perspective of interdisciplinarity, as well as positive adherence to the conceptual map tool. With these results, it is expected that the approach presented in this research will be useful for other professionals of education, allowing for its application in different disciplinary areas and distinct spaces of formal education

Effect of the intra-alveolar administration of dexamethasone on swelling, trismus, and pain after impacted lower third molar extraction:a randomized, double-blind clinical trial

To evaluate the efficacy of intra-alveolar administration of dexamethasone 4 mg in the control of edema, trismus, and pain resulting from the extraction of impacted lower third molars and the drug permeability through the oral mucosa by in silico prediction. The randomized, double-blind, split-mouth clinical trial included patients who had both impacted lower third molars in equivalent positions. Hemiarches were divided into control side when dexamethasone was administered orally and experimental side when dexamethasone was administered using the intra-alveolar route. Patients were evaluated considering edema, trismus, and pain. The permeability of dexamethasone through the oral mucosa was assessed by in silico prediction. Student?s t-test was selected for comparative analysis of edema and trismus, and the chi-square test analyzed the distribution of postoperative pain between the sides. There were no significant differences between the routes of administration in measuring symptoms between the pre and postoperative times (p>0.05). In silico prediction suggested that dexamethasone molecular characteristics facilitate intra-alveolar administration. Intra-alveolar administration had similar efficacy to oral administration in controlling symptoms of post-surgical inflammation of impacted lower third molars

Quantum Mechanical Approaches for Piezoelectricity Study in Perovskites

In this chapter, we show the procedures we have been used to theoretically investigate the piezoelectric effects in perovskites. The construction of extended basis sets using the generator coordinate Hartree-Fock (GCHF) method is shown, as well as the strategies used to contract extended basis sets and to evaluate their quality in molecular calculations. Besides, we show adequate procedures to choice polarization and diffuse functions to best represent the studied crystal. In addition, we also discuss conditions under which GCHF basis sets and standard basis sets from literature can be used to theoretical investigation of piezoelectricity in perovskites. We finalize the chapter presenting and discussing the results for investigations of piezoelectricity with standard basis sets for barium and lanthanum titanates. To conclude, we present evidences that BaTiO3 and LaTiO3 may have piezoelectric properties caused by electrostatic interactions

Taxonomic status and phylogenetic relationships of Marmosa agilis peruana Tate, 1931 (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae), with comments on the morphological variation of Gracilinanus from central-western Brazil

The marsupials of the family Didelphidae went through profound taxonomic rearrangements in recent decades, mainly related to an increase in the number of specimens deposited in scientific collections and the inclusion of molecular data in systematic analyses, resulting in better resolved phylogenies and taxa delimitation. Analyses of a large series of the gracile mouse opossum Gracilinanus agilis, including types and complementary material, recovered specimens assignable to Marmosa agilis peruana Tate, 1931 as a monophyletic group that is diagnosable by unique morphological, morphometric and molecular datasets, meriting its recognition as a full species. Here we provide an emended diagnosis, description and comparisons with congeners for G. peruanus. The former species differs from the latter by the dull reddish dorsal pelage, smaller general size, position of the maxillary fenestrae, presence of accessory cusps in upper canines, and morphology of the alisphenoid tympanic process. It ranges from central Peru to central Bolivia and western Brazil in the states of Rondônia and northwestern Mato Grosso, where it occurs in sympatry with G. agilis. Many collecting localities lie in areas with high diversity of non-volant small mammals and accelerated deforestation processes, highlighting its importance in terms of biogeographic studies and conservation policies. © 2014 The Linnean Society of London
