“BebéPlimPlim”: A contribution to shared listening experiences

“BebéPlimPlim” is currently a part of the project “GermInArte – Artistic Transformation for Social and Human Development since Infancy”, supported by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Along with three other works from the project (“Colos de Música”, “Raps&Rimas” and “Super-Sonics”), it is designed as a transformative transitive training in the field of arts for infants for early childhood professionals, musicians and other artists. Transformative because it is built upon individual needs and motivations, shaping the capacity to express the art within each one and transitive because it is always in process. Its main idea evolves around singing and movement as being born in the mother’s lap, the cradle of the first communicative interactions of a human being. “BebéPlimPlim” is therefore grounded in the concept of communicative musicality developed by Stephen Malloch and Colwyn Trevarthen, highlighting that Music is part of our communication matrix and it can also be present in musical artistic creations. The repertoire from “BebéPlimPlim” is inspired by different sound landscapes, from Johann Sebastian Bach, Meredith Monk, Kurt Schwiters and Hugo Balla to Portuguese folk music and Javanese gamelan. Its wide-ranging influences intend to contribute to the enrichment of listening experiences since infancy. The main goals of this training are to explore communicative resources using the body and the voice, to be able to use the repertoire in different educational settings, to share meaningful moments of musical interaction, and to contact with professionals who work in different early childhood contexts. The demonstration aims to share one possible experience built upon this specific musical repertoire. The activities are centred in listening, movement, vocal landscapes and human interaction. The implications for this work are to offer complementary educational and artistic perspectives not yet provided in our higher education training programmes for teachers and artists, and to develop processes of autonomy, initiative and reflection within the context of musical creation for children. This work emphasises listening as a different possibility of connecting to music, and draws attention to sharing listening experiences as the basis of being human.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This paper is a critical reflection about teaching practices of two professors responsible for the teaching of Portuguese Language and Information and Communications Technology, a subject of the degree in Elementary Education. The reflection is based on results collected through participant observation during lessons with two classes, through the final individual reflections written by all students of both classes, through three tasks produced by some students and, finally, through interviews with these students. The set of activities under consideration were intended to develop the competence of narrative writing and of a multimedia text production. It was found, however, that the new, more relevant learning has taken place in other areas: the production of the script, a tool that transforms the written text into a multimedia text, and the recording of planned speaking by children who collaborated in the creation of the PhotoStory

A modeling of the carbon-nitrogen cycle transport at Igap\'o I Lake - Londrina, Paran\'a, Brazil

This work is a contribution to better understand the effect that domestic sewage discharges may cause in a water body, specifically Igap\'o I Lake, in Londrina, Paran\'a, Brazil. The simulation of the dynamics of pollutant concentrations all over the water body is conducted by means of structured discretization of the geometry of Igap\'o I Lake, together with the finite differences and the finite elements methods. Firstly, the hydrodynamic flow (without the pollutants), modeled by Navier-Stokes and pressure equations, is numerically resolved by the finite differences method, and associated with the fourth order Runge-Kutta procedure. After that, by using the hydrodynamic field velocity, the flow of the reactive species (pollutants) is described through a transport model, which considers advective and diffusive processes, as well as through a reactions model, restricted to the carbon-nitrogen cycle. The transport and reactions model is numerically resolved by the stabilized finite elements method, by means of a semidiscrete formulation. A qualitative analysis of the numerical simulations conducted in function of the diffusion coefficient provided better understanding of the dynamics of the processes involved in the flow of the reactive species, such as the dynamics of the nitrification process, of the biochemical requirement of oxygen and of the level of oxygen dissolved in the water body at Igap\'o I Lake

New implementation of the Tau method for PDEs

    Get PDF
AbstractIn this work we propose an extension of the algebraic formulation for the Tau method for the numerical solution of partial differential problems set on domains in Rn,n>2. This extension is based on an appropriate choice of a basis for the space of polynomials in Rn and on the construction of the algebraic equivalent representation of the problem. Another feature of this implementation is related to the solution procedure for the necessarily large dimensional linear systems involved. We developed for this purpose an adapted LU factorization with a special pivoting strategy to build approximants in the sense of Tau method and to allow the solution of large problems.Numerical results for differential problems in 2D and 2D will be shown

A variational principle for free semigroup actions

    Get PDF
In this paper we introduce a notion of measure theoretical entropy for a finitely generated free semigroup action and establish a variational principle when the semigroup is generated by continuous self maps on a compact metric space and has finite topological entropy. In the case of semigroups generated by Ruelle-expanding maps we prove the existence of equilibrium states and describe some of their properties. Of independent interest are the different ways we will present to compute the metric entropy and a characterization of the stationary measures
