Use of six-minute walking test to predict peak oxygen consumption in pulmonary vascular disease.
In recent years, exercise capacity has received increasing attention due to its use as a prognostic tool and its association with functional status in patients with pulmonary vascular diseases. For this reason, both distance walked in the 6‐min walking test (6MWD) and VO2peak are included in the risk assessment table of the current clinical guidelines for PH. However, despite the validity of both tests, the CPET is the gold standard examination for assessing exercise capacity, even though it is an expensive test that requires a skilled operator and specialized equipment with limited availability

Sediment Transport Modeling in Maunalua Bay
Increased sedimentation is one of the largest environmental issues stressing the health of Maunalua Bay today. When sedimentation occurs, it can decrease biodiversity, coral cover, and water quality within the Bay. In order to improve sedimentation within the Bay, our project will simulate a digital representation that predicts how different rain events can affect the movement of sediment within Maunalua Watershed. With the results of our project, stakeholders can take appropriate steps forward to help mitigate these areas identified as priority sedimentation sites
Does COVID-19 affect the exercise capacity of non-hospitalized patients?
[Abstract] Objective. To determine whether non-hospitalized adults post COVID-19 have impaired exercise capacity.
Design.
Retrospective analysis.
Setting. Cardiovascular outpatients unit in Instituto Cardiovascular de Rosario, Argentina.
Patients. Eighty non-hospitalized patients post-infection by COVID-19.
Interventions. Participants completed an ergometry pre and post COVID-19 infection.
Main outcome measures. The study's main variables were the metabolic equivalents of task (METs) and the indirect peak oxygen consumption (VO2 peak).
Results. The median of METs was 11.7 (9.4-14.8) and 11.7 (11-11.7) in pre and post ergometry, respectively, (p = 0.022). The median VO2 (mL/Kg/min) was 21857 (16938-32761) and 21699 (17004-26467) in pre and post ergometry, respectively, without significant differences.
Conclusions. We found slight differences in maximal physical capacity evaluated through exercise testing in non-hospitalized patients by COVID-19
Proyecto de mejora de procesos en la cadena de valor del Molino Arrocero Monterrico E.I.R.L.
El Molino Arrocero Monterrico E.I.R.L ubicado en la provincia de Camaná, es una
empresa familiar que tiene como principal actividad económica el pilado y la
comercialización de sacos de arroz al sur del país. Actualmente, la empresa busca
incrementar su rentabilidad principalmente a través de la optimización de su proceso
productivo el cual tiene importantes oportunidades de mejora. Por ello, el objetivo
primario de la investigación se centra en evaluar la mejor alternativa para mejorar el
proceso de producción.
Se justifica la inversión de una optimización del proceso productivo debido a que en un
análisis específico de la demanda nacional tiene una tendencia de crecimiento
aproximada de 1,01% por año. Por otro lado, para poder aumentar en rentabilidad la
mejor alternativa es disminuir costos y valorizar más el producto, haciéndolo más
“añejo”.
Con un análisis de Factorial de Klein se identificó que los principales procesos
productivos a ser evaluados serían los siguientes:
• Procesos de Almacenamiento
• Procesos de secado
• Proceso productivo de pilado
• Orden y limpieza
La propuesta de mayor impacto, pero también la de mayor inversión, es la relacionada al
proceso de secado. Esta propuesta consiste en la adquisición de un horno de biomasa
(secadora), con una inversión aproximada de 490 000 soles. Los principales beneficios
relacionados a esta inversión son los siguientes:
• Disminución de tiempo necesario para obtener arroz añejo de 1 año a 1 mes
el tiempo de obtención del producto final.
• Aumento de la productividad.
• Aumento del valor del producto terminado en más de 20%.
• Disminución de mermas en secado de la materia prima pasan de 3% a 1%, en
el proceso de pilado disminuir las mermas de 6% a 3%.
Se concluye mediante una evaluación financiera que las sugerencias son viables y que
tendrán los siguientes indicadores:
• Inversión total 1 124 290 soles aproximadamente.
• R B/C Económico= 1,48 y R B/C Financiero= 2,41
• Aumento de Rentabilidad: de 4% a 7,1%
• PR económico= 3,34 años y PR financiero= 2,29 años
• VAN económico: 537 133 soles y VAN financiero: 634 002 soles
• TIR económico= 43% y TIR financiero= 68%.The rice mill Monterrico E.I.R.L located in the province of Camaná, is a family business
of Peruvian capitals whose main economic activity is the piling and marketing of rice
bags in the south of the country. Currently, the company seeks to increase its profitability
mainly through the optimization of its production process, which has been diagnosed as
having significant opportunities for improvement. Therefore, the primary objective of the
research is to evaluate the best alternative to improve the production process.
The investment is justified because a specific analysis of demand concludes that the
national population has a growth trend of approximately 1,01% per year, in order to
increase profitability the best alternative is to decrease costs and value the product more,
making it more "aged".
With a Klein Factorial analysis, it was identified that the main production processes to be
evaluated would be the following:
• Storage processes
• Drying processes
• Piling production process
• Order and cleanliness
The big proposal with the greatest impact, but also the one with the highest investment,
is the one related to the drying process. This proposal consists of the acquisition of a
biomass oven (dryer), with an investment of approximately 490 000 soles. The main
benefits related to this investment are the following:
• Decrease in the time necessary to obtain aged rice 1 year to 1 month
• Increased yield 63% to 66%.
• Increase in the value of the finished product 20% higher than the market price
of superior rice.
• Decrease in losses: Regarding the losses in the drying of the raw material, go
from 3% to 1%. With respect to the piling process, decrease the losses from
6% to 3%.
Finally, it is concluded through a financial evaluation that the suggestions are viable and
that they will have the following indicators:
• Total investment 1 124 290 soles approximately.
• Economic R B / C= 1.48 Financial R B / C= 2,41
• Increase in Profitability: 4% to 7,1%

Reliability of SNIP Test and Optimal Number of Maneuvers in 6-11 Years Healthy Children
[Abstract]
Background and purpose.
Sniff nasal inspiratory pressure (SNIP) is a voluntary inspiratory maneuver measured
through a plug occluding one nostril. The investigation of the number of maneuvers necessary to reach the highest peak of SNIP in pediatric populations has been inconsistent. Thus,
this study aimed to assess the reliability of SNIP in healthy children aged 6 to 11 years
according to sex and age group, and to determine the optimal number of SNIP maneuvers
for this age group.
Methods.
This cross-sectional study included healthy children with normal pulmonary function. We
performed 12 to 20 SNIP maneuvers, with a 30 s rest between each maneuver. The reliability was tested using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM), minimal detectable change (MDC), and Bland-Altman analysis for agreement.
Results.
A total of 121 healthy children (62 girls [51%]) were included in this study. The ICC and corresponding confidence interval (CI) between the highest measure and the first reproducible
maneuver were 0.752 (0.656–0.824), SEM = 10.37 cmH2O, and MDC = 28.74 cmH2O. For
children aged 6 to 7 years, the ICC was 0.669 (0.427–0.822), SEM = 10.76 cmH2O and
MDC = 29.82 cmH2O; for children aged 8 to 11 years, the ICC was 0.774 (0.662–0.852),
SEM = 9.74 cmH2O, and MDC = 26.05 cmH2O. For girls, the ICC was 0.817 (0.706–0.889),
SEM = 9.40 cmH2O and MDC = 26.05 cmH2O; for boys, the ICC was 0.671 (0.487–0.798),
SEM = 11.51 cmH2O, and MDC = 31.90 cmH2O. Approximately 80% of the total sample
reached the highest SNIP before the 10th maneuver.
Conclusions.
SNIP demonstrated moderate reliability between the maneuvers in children aged 6 to 11
years; older children and girls reached the SNIP peak faster. Finally, results indicated that
12 maneuvers were sufficient for healthy children aged 6 to 11 years to achieve the highest
SNIP peak

Effects on Sleep Quality of Physical Exercise Programs in Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Exercise; Older adults; Sleep qualityEjercicio; Adultos mayores; Calidad de sueñoExercici; Adults grans; Qualitat del sonBackground: Given the beneficial effects of exercise in different populations and the close relationship between healthy ageing and sleep quality, our objective was to determine if physical exercise delivered through a structured program improves sleep quality in older adults. Methods: Embase, PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Register of Clinical Trials (CENTRAL) were searched to 15 January 2023. Studies that applied physical exercise programs in older adults were reviewed. Two independent reviewers analysed the studies, extracted the data, and assessed the quality of evidence. Results: Of the 2599 reports returned by the initial search, 13 articles reporting on 2612 patients were included in the data synthesis. The articles used interventions based on yoga (n = 5), multicomponent exercise (n = 3), walking (n = 2), cycling (n = 1), pilates (n = 1), elastic bands (n = 1), and healthy beat acupunch (n = 1). In the intervention group, we found significant improvement in Pittsburgh sleep quality index of −2.49 points (95% CI −3.84 to −1.14) in comparison to the control group (p = 0.0003) and sleep efficiency measured with objective instruments (MD 1.18%, 95% CI 0.86 to 1.50%, p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Our results found that physical exercise programs in older adults improve sleep quality and efficiency measured with objective instruments
En busca de un horizonte común para la Biblioteca digital de arqueología náutica (NADL). Reflexiones sobre ciencia, método, teoría y plantillas
[EN] Data sharing is a fundamental process for the advancement of both natural and social sciences. Starting from the idea that computers and the internet have drastically changed the world in the last decades, this paper advocates for the creation of a space where archaeologists from around the world can share information about maritime history and exchange data with colleagues. Following the principles of open access, we argue that raw data publication is necessary and significant for the development and democratization of the discipline. This study explains the fundamental aspects of the Nautical Archaeology Digital Library (NADL) and its efforts to standardize information collection for shipwrecks and related sites, so that scholars can create a community to disseminate both raw data and complete information in the field of maritime archaeology. To achieve this, our purpose is to facilitate the development of common-ground methodology and terminology that promotes an intelligible dialogue within the global community of nautical archaeologists. This paper addresses some considerations on terminology and systematization in scientific disciplines and discusses the theoretical and methodological issues linked to the process of making a template for recording shipwrecks. Furthermore, this article analyses some of the problems related to the standardization of description processes and the necessity to create a flexible system that accounts for data diversity. The third section discusses how science is greatly enhanced by publishing information in open access platforms.Highlights:Standardization of data allows robust comparative and inter-subjective analysis of coastal and maritime projects, shipwrecks and nautical technology.Research is strongly benefited by sharing information underlying publications and raw data generated within a project in open source platforms.Digital databases such as NADL enhance cooperative research, as well as teaching and outreach strategies.[ES] Compartir información es un proceso fundamental para el desarrollo de las ciencias naturales y sociales. Partiendo de la idea de que las computadoras e Internet han cambiado drásticamente el mundo en las últimas décadas, este trabajo aboga por la creación de un espacio en el que arqueólogos de alrededor del mundo puedan compartir información sobre historia marítima e intercambiar datos con otros colegas. Siguiendo los principios del libre acceso, sostenemos que la publicación de datos en bruto es necesaria y significativa para el desarrollo y democratización de la disciplina. Este artículo explica los fundamentos de la Biblioteca Digital de Arqueología Náutica (NADL: https://nadl.tamu.edu/) y sus esfuerzos por estandarizar el registro de la información sobre naufragios y sitios relacionados, para que los investigadores puedan crear una comunidad de divulgación, tanto de datos primarios como de información completa en el campo de la arqueología marítima. Para lograrlo, nuestro propósito es contribuir al desarrollo de una metodología y terminología común que promueva un diálogo inteligible entre la comunidad global de arqueólogos náuticos. En este artículo presentamos algunas consideraciones sobre la terminología y la sistematización en las disciplinas científicas y discutimos los problemas teóricos y metodológicos vinculados al proceso de creación de una plantilla para el registro de naufragios. Además, reflexionamos sobre algunos de los problemas relacionados con la estandarización de los procesos descriptivos y la necesidad de crear un sistema flexible que refleje la diversidad de los datos.
