La complejidad de traducir la simplicidad de Hemingway: patrones quiásticos en The Sun Also Rises

En dos artículos publicados en el North Dakota Quarterly en dos años consecutivos, Max Nänny (1997, 1998) analiza lo que él denomina “patrones quiásticos” de repetición y sus funciones narrativas, en una serie de cuentos escritos por Ernest Hemingway. Nänny observa que hay un cierto paralelismo entre el uso de patrones quiásticos en el nivel subnarrativo de la sintaxis y la cohesión, por un lado, y la tendencia a utilizar un esquema similar a nivel narrativo, por otro. Distingue las siguientes funciones, que ilustra con pasajes tomados de los cuentos de Hemingway: 1) movimiento hacia adelante y hacia atrás, 2) oposición, simetría y equilibrio, 3) encuadre, 4) centrado. Existen casos muy obvios de repetición quiástica en The Sun Also Rises que, sin duda, tienen una función icónica de centrado. El presente artículo analiza tres casos de patrones quiásticos en esta novela y los compara con los correspondientes pasajes de las traducciones al español de The Sun Also Rises que se han publicado hasta la fecha: Guarnido-Hausner (1944), Solá (1979), Adsuar (1983), Martínez-Lage (2002), y Adsuar-Hamad (2003In two articles published in the North Dakota Quarterly in two consecutive years, Max Nänny (1997, 1998) analyses what he calls “chiastic patterns” of repetition and their narrative functions, in a number of short stories written by Hemingway. Nänny observes that there is some kind of parallelism between the use of chiastic patterning on the sub-narrative level of syntax and cohesion and the tendency to use a similar scheme at the level of the narrative, and he distinguishes the following functions, which he illustrates with passages taken from Ernest Hemingway‟s short stories: 1) back and forth movement, 2) opposition, symmetry, and balance, 3) framing, 4) centering. There is a number of very obvious instances of chiastic repetition throughout The Sun Also Rises which undoubtedly have an iconic function of centering. The current paper analyses three instances of chiastic patterns in this novel and compares them to the corresponding passages in the Spanish translations of The Sun Also Rises published in Spain to date: Guarnido-Hausner (1944), Solá (1979), Adsuar (1983), Martínez-Lage (2002), and Adsuar-Hamad (2003)

Contextual Mismatches in the Translation into Spanish of Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises

Desde la perspectiva de la teoría de la relevancia de Sperber y Wilson, se analiza aquí la última traducción al español de la novela de Ernest Hemingway The Sun Also Rises. Tomando como punto de partida el concepto de contexto se distinguen cuatro contextos diferentes: el contexto previsto por Hemingway, el aportado por el traductor como lector del texto original, el previsto por el traductor como escritor de un nuevo texto en español y, finalmente, el contexto aportado por el lector de la traducción. Las asimetrías que se dan entre los distintos contextos dan lugar a casos de clara falta de correspondencia entre el original y la traducción. El artículo intenta mostrar que el concepto de contexto de Sperber y Wilson puede explicar las causas de las principales deficiencias de una traducción literaria y, por tanto, proporcionar ciertas pautas que sean de utilidad para los traductores profesionalesThe last translation into Spanish of Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises is analysed here from the perspective of Sperber and Wilson's theory of relevance. Taking their concept of context as a starting point, four different contexts are considered: the context envisaged by Hemingway, the one brought to bear by the translator as reader of the original, the one envisaged by the translator as writer of the Spanish version, and, finally, the context brought to bear by the reader of the translated text. Mismatches between the different contexts result into cases of very apparent lack of correspondence between the original and the translation. The article tries to show that Sperber and Wilson's concept of context can account for the causes of the main deficiencies of a literary translation and, consequently, provide some useful guidelines for professional translators

Solving SAT in linear time with a neural-like membrane system

We present in this paper a neural-like membrane system solving the SAT problem in linear time. These neural Psystems are nets of cells working with multisets. Each cell has a finite state memory, processes multisets of symbol-impulses, and can send impulses (?excitations?) to the neighboring cells. The maximal mode of rules application and the replicative mode of communication between cells are at the core of the eficiency of these systems

Los estudios españoles en el ámbito universitario portugués : una experiencia educativa de colaboración interdocente

Esta comunicación propone una reflexión en el ámbito de los estudios españoles en Portugal, dando a conocer a otros profesores de E/LE, una experiencia educativa centrada en la colaboración interdocente, bajo el marco de una asignatura optativa titulada Temas de cultura y literatura hispánica , perteneciente a la licenciatura de Línguas y Literaturas Europeias de la Universidade do Minho y desarrollada durante el año lectivo 2010-2011. Sus docentes titulares pretenden demostrar que gracias a la colaboración interdocente, se puede ofrecer una enseñanza de calidad, desafiando a la actual crisis que estamos atravesando. Tras una reflexión contextual, se expondrá un caso de organización e impartición curricular, que pretendiendo ceñirse al interés último del alumno, se ha llevado a cabo en la citada entidad, por medio de la desinteresada colaboración de todo un grupo de profesionales dedicados a los estudios lingüísticos y culturales

Environmental education and new social movements: contributions to educational change

[Resumo] O artigoexplora o vínculo entre educación ambiental e cambio educativo desde a perspectiva da comunidade discursiva da política cultural. Esta línea discursiva constrúese a partir de accións promovidas polos novos movementos sociais, como o movemento ecoloxista e o movemento de movementos: o antiglobalización. A aparición destes supón un cambio cultural que se define como a volta del individuo á política ou a configuración da “política da vida”, porque as súas iniciativas supoñen a transformación do suxeito e as súas relacións socioculturais cara á politización da vida cotiá e do espazo privado. Esta viraxe pode ser vista como unha oportunidade para construir novas formas de facer política desde a non-política. Desde esta perspectiva se presentan unha serie de experiencias que ensaian novos espazos de emancipación no terreo ambiental e cultural máis xeral, nos que as intervencións desde a educación ambiental poden ofrecernos leccións a aplicar para o cambio educativo. A educación ambiental ten o reto de contribuir ao cambio educativo transformando os estilos de vida, pero que, do mesmo xeito que os movementos, debe vincular a revolución persoal co cambio das condicións políticas, sociais, culturais e económicas.[Abstract] This article explores the link between environmental education and educational change taking in consideration the discourse community of cultural politics. Actions promoted by new social movements such as ecology and anti globalization configure this discourse community. New social movements have provoked a shift of the subject and their socio-cultural relations producing the politicization of the daily life and private space: the appearance of the life politics. This turn can be seen as an opportunity for building new ways of doing non-political policy. It is presented a set of experiences that illustrate new scenarios of emancipation in the environment and cultural spheres, where environment education initiatives are able to offer lessons applicable to educational change. Environmental education has the challenge to facilitate educational change transforming life styles but as with social movements, it must link the personal revolution with the transformation of politics, social, cultural and economic conditions

Necesidades identificadas durante el proceso oncológico por pacientes supervivientes. Proyecto de investigación cualitativa

[Resumen] Los procesos oncológicos suponen un elevado número de diagnósticos en nuestra sociedad, así como de muertes. Los pacientes con cáncer tienen unas necesidades especiales que deben ser cubiertas durante todo su proceso, para evitar la aparición de consecuencias psicológicas que puedan afectar a su calidad de vida, como ansiedad, miedo, temor, angustia, aislamiento social… Es de vital importancia, por lo tanto, hallar estas necesidades, tanto asistenciales como de información, que puedan generar un efecto contrario, como una mayor tranquilidad, confianza en su profesional de referencia o aumento de la autoestima y relaciones sociales, lo que resultará en un mayor nivel de bienestar. Los profesionales de enfermería pueden suponer un gran apoyo emocional y asistencial para los pacientes oncológicos, ya que intervienen en la mayoría de los procesos de atención sanitaria y acompañan al paciente durante un gran número de horas. Objetivo: Identificar las necesidades asistenciales y de información insatisfechas por parte de enfermería durante el proceso oncológico en pacientes supervivientes de cáncer en la provincia de A Coruña, así como reflejar y reforzar aquellas necesidades que sí están cubiertas. Metodología: Estudio basado en una metodología cualitativa de tipo fenomenológico enmarcado en pacientes que hayan sobrevivido a un cáncer o tumor maligno siendo mayores de edad. Se elabora una guía para realizar las entrevistas en profundidad y recoger los datos en participantes socios de la AECC de la provincia de A Coruña.[Abstract] Cancer processes involve a high number of diagnostics in our society, as well as deaths. Cancer patients have some special needs that should be solved during their process to avoid the appearance of psychological consequences that could affect their life’s quality like anxiety, fear, anguish, social isolation… It is of vital importance, therefore, to find that needs, both assistance and information, that can generate the opposite effect, like more peace, confidence with their reference professional or an increase of self-esteem and social relations, what should result in a bigger well-being level. Nursing professionals could be a big welfare and emotional support to oncological patients, since they are involved in most health care processes and accompany the patient for a large number or hours. Purpose: Identify the unmet care and information needs by the nurse team during the cancer process in oncological patients in the province of A Coruña, as well as identify and reinforce those needs that are covered. Methodology: Study based on a qualitative methodology of a phenomenological type framed in patients who have survived a cancer or malignant tumor when they are of legal age. First Multiplatform Application for Pharmacies in Spain, Which Guides the Prescription of Probiotics According to Pathology

[Abstract] The study of the intestinal microbiota is one of the biggest challenges in the current clinical environment. In this context, probiotics have been a focus of interest to achieve the stability of the intestinal microbiota, due to probiotics’ key role in its regulation. The development of an automated system that allows practitioners to easily search for the optimal probiotic is the main objective of this study. Although it is true that there have been previous attempts of applications with this purpose, only authorized probiotics available in the countries of origin, Canada and the USA, were included. This event was a limitation when looking for those endorsed in other countries such as Spain.
