The k-metric dimension of a graph
As a generalization of the concept of a metric basis, this article introduces
the notion of -metric basis in graphs. Given a connected graph , a
set is said to be a -metric generator for if the elements
of any pair of different vertices of are distinguished by at least
elements of , i.e., for any two different vertices , there exist
at least vertices such that for every . A metric generator of minimum
cardinality is called a -metric basis and its cardinality the -metric
dimension of . A connected graph is -metric dimensional if is the
largest integer such that there exists a -metric basis for . We give a
necessary and sufficient condition for a graph to be -metric dimensional and
we obtain several results on the -metric dimension
Nuclear shape dependence of Gamow-Teller distributions in neutron-deficient Pb isotopes
We study Gamow-Teller strength distributions in the neutron-deficient even
isotopes (184-194)Pb in a search for signatures of deformation. The microscopic
formalism used is based on a deformed quasiparticle random phase approximation
(QRPA) approach, which involves a self-consistent quasiparticle deformed Skyrme
Hartree-Fock (HF) basis and residual spin-isospin forces in both the
particle-hole and particle-particle channels. By analyzing the sensitivity of
the Gamow-Teller strength distributions to the various ingredients in the
formalism, we conclude that the beta-decay of these isotopes could be a useful
tool to look for fingerprints of nuclear deformation.Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures. To be published in Physical Review
Papilla preservation periodontal surgery in periodontal reconstruction for deep combined intra-suprabony defects. Retrospective analysis of a registry-based cohort
Suprabony defects are the most prevalent defects and there is very little evidence on their treatment. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of papilla preservation periodontal surgery in the periodontal reconstruction of combined deep intra-suprab
Anti-DNA antibodies and circulating immune complexes (C1q-IgG) in recurrent aphtous stomatitis
Anti-DNA antibodies and circulating immune complexes (C1q-IgG) in sera from 50 patients with minor aphtae at the moment of study and 50 healthy controls, were determined. The obtained results were correlated with chronological and clinical parameters of the disease. Our findings show a greater number of patients than controls with higher values of anti-DNA antibodies. The time from the last active stage of the disease conditioned the anti-DNA antibody levels (p< 0.001). However, no significant differences among the number of recurrences in a year or the number of lesions in a ulcerative stage and the anti-DNA antibody concentrations were observed.
The acetabular protrusio is a condition in which the femoral head protrudes into the
pelvis. It may be primary or secondary to several pathologies.
In young patients without severe osteoarthritis can be managed with femoral or pelvic osteotomies, but in the case of elderly patients with hip arthritis, requires a total hip arthroplasty.
The aim of this paper is to describe the technique of total hip replacement in patients with
acetabular protrusio.

Air conditioning in the region of Madrid, Spain: an approach to electricity consumption, economics and CO₂emissions
An understanding of electricity consumption due to residential air conditioning (AC) may improve production and environmental impact strategy design. This article reports on a study of peak and seasonal electricity consumption for residential air conditioning in the region of Madrid, Spain.
Consumption was assessed by simulating the operation of AC units at the outdoor summer temperature characteristics of central Spain. AC unit performance when operating under part load conditions in keeping with weather conditions was also studied to find cooling demand and energy efficiency. Like
wise final electricity consumption was computed and used to calculate energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). Cooling demand, when family holidays outside the region were factored into the calculations, came to 1.46x10⁹ kWh. Associated seasonal electricity demand was 617x10⁶ kWh and
seasonal performance of AC units around 2.4. Electricity consumption in the whole region was observed to peak on 30 June 2008 at 5.44x10⁶ kW, being the load attributable to residential AC 1.79x10⁶ kW, resulting about 33% of the total peak consumption. The seasonal cost per household was about €156 and the total equivalent warming impact was 572x10³t CO₂. The method proposed can be adapted for use in other regionsThis study was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under Projects INVISO, sub-project SP3 “Sustainable
