Interest and willingness to pay for investigative reporting : a solution for the crisis of journalism?

    Get PDF
The Internet has stimulated a cross-shift in the business model across the media sector. Traditional funding sources have been reduced by the voracious pulse for free access and non-professional actors have swarmed over to compete with traditional channels of information. This paper attempts to analyze willingness-to-pay for investigative journalism contents from a general audience’s point of view, in order to find consumption patterns that could orientate professionals in this crisis. To achieve such an aim, a survey was conducted to examine the paying habits of Madrid’s population using a multistage technique, which was designed following the indexes provided by the Municipal Register of the town. The results, based on three payment channels –micro-payment, donation and annual subscription–and three distribution channels –corporate media, non-corporate media and freelance journalists–confirm the interest of the audience for investigative reporting findings but also their unwillingness to pay for its scoops or exposĂ©s

Review[Abstract] A stressor such as a pandemic is a trigger to focus on the study of the psycho-emotional impact on children and adolescents from a nursing care perspective. The aim of this systematized review was to know the impact of the lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic on children (from 2 to 12 years) and adolescent (from 13 to 18 years) in relation to daily routines, as well as the most frequent psycho-emotional manifestations. The research was carried out following PRISMA guidelines and was performed using several databases (PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane). The search was focused on children and adolescent population between 2020 and 2021.The literature search was from November to December 2021. Sixteen articles were used to perform the systematized review. A disruption in daily routines and an increase in psycho-emotional manifestations have been observed in young people, which is understood as a worsening of their psycho-emotional integrity. Higher levels of anxiety and depression in adolescents and hyperactivity and dependence disorders in the children have also been reported. In conclusion, children and adolescents have been affected in the psycho-emotional sphere in the same way as adults, therefore, it is necessary to know the presenting characteristics of this group of people in order to be able to establish an effective nursing approach and help preserve the mental integrity, as well as promote resilience

La fuerte caída de la fecundidad hace impracticable que las fuerzas institucionales determinen el nombre dado a los recién nacidos. Identity profile of young people experiencing a sense of risk on the internet: a data mining application of decision tree with CHAID algorithm

[EN]Social media, interactive games, and digital platforms are just some of the ways in which the internet has become part of our lives, and more specifically so among young people. Among other things, this technology is the reason young people are spending increasingly more time online than offline, prompting numerous risks that they are sometimes unaware of. The following quantitative research is based on this premise, and it pursues two objectives, namely, to discover whether or not young people experience a sense of risk linked to their use of the internet and identify the kind of young people that say they do or do not perceive any such risk. A total of 1991 young people answered the Technology Use Studies questionnaire. The classification tree technique based on the Chi-square Automatic Interaction Detector (CHAID) was applied to identify the predictive variables associated with the sense of risk in young people. Two highly significant results have been forthcoming: firstly, we present the factors with the biggest impact on a young person's internet-related sense of risk, involving isolation when they cannot go online, followed by variables such as gender, the use of TikTok, and videogames, the consumption of pornography, and distraction from study time. Secondly, our results indicate that the young people that feel isolated when they cannot go online are precisely the ones that do not experience a sense of online risk. It is therefore of vital importance for education to generate and provide young people with strategies that allow them to establish a healthy and responsible relationship with technologies such as the internet

Effectiveness of linguistic intervention in adolescents with Down syndrome

    Get PDF
Down syndrome (DS) is considered the best known and most frequent intellectual disability. Cognitive development usually occurs in a similar way to the sequence produced in typical development; while the linguistic development is lagging behind it. However, it is expected that language development will benefit from logopedic intervention during adolescence and adulthood. The objective of the present study is to know if there are improvements in the areas of oral language with a non-systematized intervention after the passage of time (5 years) in specific areas of language: morphosyntax, semantics and pragmatics. A longitudinal study was carried out with two temporal moments (2012/2017). The sample consisted of 12 of the subjects with DS, aged between 13 and 21 years. For the evaluation of language areas, the standardized Objective and Criteria Language Battery test (BLOC-C) was used in individual sessions. The results obtained show that there are no significant linguistic differences after five years of linguistic intervention performed by speech therapists in any of the areas evaluated. Taking into account the data obtained, it is necessary to design intervention programs systematized and based on scientific evidence that improve the linguistic characteristics of adolescents with DS, in addition to reflecting on the interventions that are currently carried out

Sexual Dysfunction in Ostomized Patients: A Systematized Review

    Get PDF
[Abstract] The impact of an ostomy has a negative influence on sexuality. Healthcare professionals focus the care on surgery, and consider the sexual life is little relevant to the patient recovery. The aim of this systematized review is to give visibility to the sexual problems that ostomy patients have, to know what kind of sexual dysfunction occurs in this patients, to give information to the nursing staff about sexual disturbances and to recommend some resources to restart sexual activity. The research was conducted following de PRISMA guidelines and performed in several databases. Twelve papers were used to perform the systematized review. After ostomy, sexual dysfunction is different in men and women. It is related by the psychological aspects (low self-esteem, body image deterioration, etc.), the physical aspects (type of resection, complications, etc.) and the acceptance by the partner. A personalized sexual education focused on sexual problems that appear in ostomy patients is necessary to implement. In this way, adequate support, information and resources before and after surgery could be given for both, patients and their partners
