    On the nonlinear Dysthe equation

This work is dedicated to putting on a solid analytic ground the theory of local well-posedness for the two dimensional Dysthe equation. This equation can be derived from the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation after performing an asymptotic expansion of a wavetrain modulation to the fourth order. Recently, this equation has been used to numerically study rare phenomena on large water bodies such as rogue waves. In order to study well-posedness, we use Strichartz, and improved smoothing and maximal function estimates. We follow ideas from the pioneering work of Kenig, Ponce and Vega, but since the equation is highly anisotropic, several technical challenges had to be resolved. We conclude our work by also presenting an ill-posedness result.Comment: Some remarks and references adde

Wavelet Analysis to Detect Ground Faults in Electrical Power Systems with Full Penetration of Converter Interface Generation

The requirements for the increased penetration of renewable energy sources in electrical power systems have led to a dominance of power electronic interfaces. As a result, short-circuit currents have been reduced by the thermal limitations of power electronics, leading to problems associated with the sensitivity, selectivity, and reliability of protective relays. Although many solutions can be found in the literature, these depend on communications and are not reliable in all grid topologies or under different types of electrical fault. Hence, in this paper, the analysis of ground fault currents and voltages using a wavelet transform in combination with a new algorithm not only detects such ground faults but also allows them to be cleared quickly and selectively in scenarios with low fault current contribution due to a full penetration converter-interface-based generation. To verify and validate the proposed protection system, different ground faults are simulated using an arc ground fault model in a grid scheme based on the IEEE nine-bus standard test system, with only grid-forming power converters as generation sources. The test system is modelled in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. Therefore, the protection relays that verify all the steps established in the new algorithm can detect and clear any ground defect. Simulations are also presented involving different fault locations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ground fault protection method. This work was supported by the Autonomous Community of Madrid under the PROMINT-CM project (S2018/EMT-4366)

The psychological status of primary pragmatic processes in the Truth-Conditional Pragmatics

The main purpose of the present work is the analysis of the psychological properties attributed by Recanati to the primary pragmatic processes in his defense of the Truth-Conditional Pragmatics. Such analysis reveals a tension between two of the main intuitions that the Truth-Conditional Pragmatics seeks to explain. The analysis carried out by the author shows that the claim that the primary pragmatic processes are cognitively penetrable yields a weak and a strong interpretation of the Availability Condition. The later undermines the grounds of Truth-Conditional Pragmatics

The purpose of this work is to show why mathematical concepts are useful to describe phenomena of our empirical reality without having to commit ourselves to the existence of abstract objects. Background Maternal depression may be a risk factor for childhood trauma (CT), with resultant offspring development of mood disorders (MD) in adult life. Objective To verify the relationship between maternal depression (as a risk factor for childhood trauma) and mood disorders in young adults. Methods The sample was composed of 164 young adults and their mothers. Maternal depression was identified through the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.). Mood Disorders in the young adults were confirmed with the Structured Interview for the DSM-IV (SCID), whereas the CT was evaluated using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). Results In the group of young adults with MD, individuals who had depressed mothers presented higher mean scores of CT in comparison to the ones who did not have mothers with Depression (p < 0.005). Childhood trauma was also associated with lower social classes (p < 0.005). In the group of young adults without MD, the only variable that was associated with CT was the young adult’s (not) current work (p < 0.005). Discussion Maternal depression was considered to be a risk factor for CT and MD in young adults. Thus, preventing and treating maternal psychiatric disorders may diminish the risk of offspring childhood trauma, and, consequently, avoid negative effects in the offspring’s adult life. A depressão materna foi identificada por meio do Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.).

Real-Time Implementation of Two Grid-Forming Power Converter Controls to Emulate Synchronous Generators

Modern power systems are experiencing unprecedented penetration of integrating renewable energy sources (RES) to tackle the so-called climate emergency. But the transition from synchronous generators to converter-interfaced generators also produces a few issues, some of them directly related to the reduction (or lack) of rotational inertia. The voltage source converters (VSCs) enabled with the so-called grid-forming control may provide a solution for the converter-dominated electrical power systems. This paper presents the implementation of two control strategies, Virtual Synchronous Machine (VSM) and Synchronverter (SynC), for converter-interfaced generators in the real-time environment (Typhoon HIL) to emulate synchronous generator (SG) behaviour. The advantages of grid-forming converter control to provide inertia response service and make the system more robust to changes in the active power of loads have been demonstrated in real-time simulations through a scenario of a positive load step connected to the converter
