    Modelo de degradación diferenciada para materiales compuestos

    En este trabajo se presenta la formulación y validación de un modelo de degradación elástica diferenciado. El modelo propuesto permite degradar en forma diferenciada la parte volumétrica y desviadora del comportamiento constitutivo del material y está basado en una generalización del modelo de degradación simple de Kachanov. De esta manera, el modelo resulta especialmente apropiado para simular el comportamiento de materiales friccionales. En particular, este modelo se aplica a los materiales componentes de una mampostería de ladrillos homogeneizada mediante una técnica particular ad hoc¸ que permite su tratamiento como material compuesto anisótropo, partiendo de las características geométricas y mecánicas de los materiales constituyentes. Para el tratamiento de la anisotropía, se usa la técnica de mapeo de espacios a través del concepto de espacio isótropo ficticio. La metodología planteada brinda una gran potencia de simulación pudiéndose también utilizar, si fuera necesario, otras formulaciones constitutivas diferentes para el comportamiento de los materiales componentes de la mampostería. El modelo constitutivo propuesto, junto con la técnica de homogeneización se implementa en un programa general de elementos finitos. Finalmente, se muestran los resultados obtenidos en ejemplos simples de validación del modelo y luego se presentan ejemplos de aplicación que muestran la respuesta no lineal del compuesto y su comparación con resultados publicados por otros autores.Fil: Quinteros, Ricardo Daniel.     Diversity of cingulate xenarthrans in the middle-late Eocene of Northwestern Argentina

    The study of Paleogene mammals of intermediate and low latitudes has increased in the last decades and has been clearly demonstrated their importance in the comprehension of the evolution and faunistic changes outside Patagonia. The study of these faunas permits establishing new comparisons among contemporaneous faunistic associations, completing the distributional patterns, and evaluating evolutionary changes in the lineages in relation to climatic conditions prevailing in each of the different regions. In this work we study the diversity of Dasypodidae recovered from the Geste Formation (Northwestern Argentina). Bearing levels of Geste Formation were referred alternatively to a Barrancan subage of Casamayoran SALMA (middle Eocene, Lutetian-Bartonian) or a Mustersan SALMA (middle-late Eocene, Bartonian-Priabonian) on faunistic comparations with their equivalent in Patagonia, although absolute isotopic data indicates ca. 37-35 Ma (late Eocene, Priabonian). We described the following taxa of Dasypodidae: (i) Dasypodinae Astegotheriini: cf. Astegotherium sp., ?Prostegotherium sp., Parastegosimpsonia cf. P. peruana; (ii) Dasypodinae indet.; (iii) Euphractinae Euphractini: Parutaetus punaensis sp. nov.; (iv) Dasypodidae incertae sedis: Pucatherium parvum, Punatherium catamarcensis gen. et sp. nov. In comparison with other beds bearing Eocene cingulate faunas from Northwestern Argentina, Geste Formation presents the greatest diversity of dasypodids. This association is consistent with a late Eocene age and shows a taxonomic and biogeographic relevant features given by a unique specific composition: (i) it differs from that known for contemporaneous faunas from Southern latitudes and younger associations from more tropical areas; (ii) it includes genera with close affinities to those distant areas; (iii) it presents unique taxa typical from Eocene units exposed at Northwestern Argentina. This highlights the evolutionary and biogeographic meaning of the cingulate of the Geste Formation and supports the idea that the faunistic regionalization probably obeyed to latitudinal than to temporal factors.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

    Sin duda alguna, en el Perú la regulación sobre represión de la competencia desleal, incluyendo a la supervisión general de la publicidad, tuvo su punto de partida como un cuerpo normativo orgánico, estructurado y aplicable en la realidad, gracias a la entrada en vigencia del Decreto Ley N°26122, Ley sobre Represión de la Competencia Desleal (LRCD), y a la creación e inicio de actividades de una entidad técnica, honesta y multidisciplinaria como es el Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual (Indecopi), que fue capaz de poner en la práctica dicha regulación de manera eficiente

    Purified Smc5/6 complex exhibits DNA substrate recognition and compaction

    Eukaryotic SMC complexes, cohesin, condensin, and Smc5/6, use ATP hydrolysis to power a plethora of functions requiring organization and restructuring of eukaryotic chromosomes in interphase and during mitosis. The Smc5/6 mechanism of action and its activity on DNA are largely unknown. Here we purified the budding yeast Smc5/6 holocomplex and characterized its core biochemical and biophysical activities. Purified Smc5/6 exhibits DNA-dependent ATP hydrolysis and SUMO E3 ligase activity. We show that Smc5/6 binds DNA topologically with affinity for supercoiled and catenated DNA templates. Employing single-molecule assays to analyze the functional and dynamic characteristics of Smc5/6 bound to DNA, we show that Smc5/6 locks DNA plectonemes and can compact DNA in an ATP-dependent manner. These results demonstrate that the Smc5/6 complex recognizes DNA tertiary structures involving juxtaposed helices and might modulate DNA topology by plectoneme stabilization and local compaction.The work in the Aragon laboratory was supported by a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator award to L.A.     Quaternary structure of the specific p53-DNA complex reveals the mechanism of p53 mutant dominance

    The p53 tumour suppressor is a transcriptional activator that controls cell fate in response to various stresses. p53 can initiate cell cycle arrest, senescence and/or apoptosis via transactivation of p53 target genes, thus preventing cancer onset. Mutations that impair p53 usually occur in the core domain and negate the p53 sequence-specific DNA binding. Moreover, these mutations exhibit a dominant negative effect on the remaining wild-type p53. Here, we report the cryo electron microscopy structure of the full-length p53 tetramer bound to a DNA-encoding transcription factor response element (RE) at a resolution of 21 Å. While two core domains from both dimers of the p53 tetramer interact with DNA within the complex, the other two core domains remain available for binding another DNA site. This finding helps to explain the dominant negative effect of p53 mutants based on the fact that p53 dimers are formed co-translationally before the whole tetramer assembles; therefore, a single mutant dimer would prevent the p53 tetramer from binding DNA. The structure indicates that the Achilles’ heel of p53 is in its dimer-of-dimers organization, thus the tetramer activity can be negated by mutation in only one allele followed by tumourigenesis

    Emociones políticas y virtudes epidémicas en el siglo XVIII

    El proyecto se propone abrir nuevas vías en la enseñanza de las Humanidades en la UCM mediante la práctica de una historia de las ideas del siglo XVIII que atiende a los condicionantes materiales de la cultura y a la valoración de las emociones como índices de construcción de imágenes de lo privado y lo público. El proyecto pretende, por un lado, explorar los mecanismos materiales de producción de ideas y creencias compartidas por la sociedad del siglo XVIII, teniendo en cuenta los diferentes contextos de la Ilustración Francesa, Alemana, Judía y Escocesa, con especial atención a la formación de metáforas políticas y a las emociones estéticamente más aceptadas y difundidas en la época analizada. La otra dimensión estudiada por el proyecto se refiere a los procesos de configuración de lo público y la crítica intelectual del poder, tomando como instrumento de análisis la comunicación de ideas materializada en la correspondencia, en la prensa, en los libros y en el proyecto de la Enciclopedia. Este programa de trabajo tendrá como principal destinatario el alumnado de Grado, Máster y Doctorado de la UCM, al que se invitará a las sesiones de trabajo del equipo, especialmente al matriculado en las asignaturas impartidas durante el curso 2016/17 por la IP. El proyecto reúne a destacados especialistas de la UCM y de otras universidades madrileñas y españolas, además de contar entre sus miembros con estudiantes de doctorado, que propiciarán la difusión de las actividades entre los estudiantes UCM, y con personal de administración y servicios, a los que se asignarán tareas relacionadas con la difusión y transferencia de los resultados del proyecto, a la sociedad, a la comunidad universitaria UCM y a los estudiantes Erasmus que reciba en el curso 2016/17 la Facultad de Filosofía de la UCM
