No primeiro,
This study explores the different perceptions male homosexual youngsters have about
the (im)possibility of revealing their sexual orientation to their fathers, and the implications
that the (im)possible negotiation has in the making of their sexual identity. We have
conducted 8 semi-structured, biographic interviews. The data was analyzed with the thematic
analysis method according to the social constructionist paradigm.
Two analysis axis and themes were generated from those interviews. Firstly, the
importance of external figures as mediators for the coming out was outlined. Secondly, it was
described the importance of independence during the coming out, of the positive reaction by
the father, of the proximity of family members before/during/after the coming out and, finally,
the effect of rejection regarding the revelation in the construction of the subject´s identity.
To conclude, some recommendations were made both for the practice in clinical
psychology and for further investigations
The growing use of nanomaterials (NMs) in a wide variety of fields is due to the
better and innovative properties that they can offer to, e.g., the end-use
industry or biomedicine. The release of NMs into the environment during their
life-cycle is an actual scenario. Reaching the environment, the NMs will interact
with the organisms, but despite the growing efforts to provide conclusive results
on the safety of NMs, their impact is still poorly understood, particularly in the
terrestrial compartment. There are many knowledge gaps that need to be
covered to better understand the mechanisms that drive NMs toxicity, hence
this thesis aims to increase the knowledge on the effects of selected NMs in
soil invertebrates. Understanding NMs mode of action is key to safer-by-design
strategies that will contribute to improve nanotechnology sustainability.
Effect assessment of NMs was done at several levels of biological organization,
covering different endpoints, which can be integrated in order to understand the
toxicity mechanisms. Further, long-term and multigenerational effects were also
considered, as they are likely scenarios for NMs exposure. Selected NMs -
silver (Ag), tungsten carbide cobalt (WCCo) and copper oxide (CuO) case
study (using different surface modifications), along with the corresponding salt
forms, were tested at different levels: molecular (oxidative stress and
genotoxicity) and organism (survival and reproduction). The standard soil
invertebrates Enchytraeus crypticus and Eiseina fetida were used for in vivo
and in vitro exposures, respectively.
Sub-lethal concentrations of Ag NMs induced distinct and later biochemical
effects (oxidative stress and genotoxicity) in E. crypticus compared to the nonnano
form (AgNO3). While different responses point to nano-specific effects,
possible dissolution of Ag NMs and consequent ion-driven toxicity can also be
occurring. WCCo NMs impaired reproduction in E. crypticus, at a higher extent
compared to CoCl2 (assuming similar Co concentrations). The lower Co
concentrations in the soil:water interface and lower uptake in WCCo exposed
organisms suggest that toxicity resulted from a combined effect between WC
and Co. Multigenerational exposure did not increase toxicity in terms of survival
and reproduction, in spite of Co internalization. Monitoring of Co body burden
pointed to Co elimination and storage as the detoxifying strategies in WCCo
and CoCl2 exposed organisms, respectively. CuO NMs did not decrease
viability of Eisenia fetida’s immune cells, either in the pristine form or with
different surface modifications. The interaction with the biomolecules present in
the coelomic fluid may have led to the formation of a native corona that
interfered with the toxic potential, independently of the surface modification, but
the impact of such interaction is unclear. Some technical aspects need further
optimization due to the possibility that the effects could have been
underestimated, but this constitutes a promising test system for in vitro testing

oxidativo e genotoxicidade) e do organismo (sobrevivência e reprodução).
usados em exposições in vivo e in vitro, respectivamente.
organismos expostos a WCCo NMs e CoCl2, respectivamente.

Mapping Wide Row Crops with Video Sequences Acquired from a Tractor Moving at Treatment Speed
This paper presents a mapping method for wide row crop fields. The resulting map shows the crop rows and weeds present in the inter-row spacing. Because field videos are acquired with a camera mounted on top of an agricultural vehicle, a method for image sequence stabilization was needed and consequently designed and developed. The proposed stabilization method uses the centers of some crop rows in the image sequence as features to be tracked, which compensates for the lateral movement (sway) of the camera and leaves the pitch unchanged. A region of interest is selected using the tracked features, and an inverse perspective technique transforms the selected region into a bird’s-eye view that is centered on the image and that enables map generation. The algorithm developed has been tested on several video sequences of different fields recorded at different times and under different lighting conditions, with good initial results. Indeed, lateral displacements of up to 66% of the inter-row spacing were suppressed through the stabilization process, and crop rows in the resulting maps appear straight

The article arises as a consequence of a thesis developed within the ambit of a doctorate. The main objective of this paper is to question the use of self-evaluation as a tool for the development of metacognition and the improvement of the teaching and learning process. We opted for a case study focused on a class of first year undergraduates at a Mozambican university, in the context of the subject of Mathematics. A total of 40 students studying two courses (Human Resources
Management, and Marketing and Public Relations), and 10 teachers participated in the study. Data collection instruments consisted of self-assessment forms (completed in sessions), non-participant observation and semi-structured interview surveys were used in the study. Also analyzed were some normative and academic documents of the
institution. The results allow us to conclude that students resort to self-evaluation of their learning in an implicit manner and as a reaction to the content learned, but not as an intentional learning strategy. Students use metacognitive strategies, and metacognitive judgment was the most used modality. There was also the use of metacognitive decision in a small number of students who came to express some
individual and particular dynamics considered necessary for learning. No gender differences were found regarding the use of metacognition. Overall, there was a significant positive relationship between metacognitive strategies and academic achievement, as students who used metacognition in its most elaborate form performed better.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Main dimensions that impact knowledge management and university-business-government collaboration in the Brazilian scenario
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate how certain characteristics of the university–industry– government collaboration facilitate knowledge creation and management, hence innovation focusing on particularities of the Brazilian scenario. Design/methodology/approach – As a conceptual basis, there are correlations between theories of knowledge management and the Triple Helix, a model referenced to university–industry–government cooperation. The research was conducted through a multiple case study at two National Institutes of Science and Technology (INCTs in Portuguese). Findings – The main results show the importance of participation in the INCT program, as it enables the creation of an organizational structure with the coordinator’s leadership, who directs the flow of knowledge among organizations and stimulates innovation. Originality/value – The choice of the topic is justified by the lack of studies on the identification and analyses of the main aspects of this type of collaboration in an integrated way
