(L, U): bounded priority queues and the codification of Rényi k-Trees

We introduce in this paper a data structure named (L, U)- bounded priority queue, which particularizes priority queues in two aspects: the priorities associated to the elements must be integer numbers constrained to a predefined interval and, in a sequence of operations, no more than one Insert can immediatly follow a DeleteMin. This data structure is used in the development of efficient algorithms for coding and decoding Rényi k-trees

SABERES DA TRADIÇÃO E CONHECIMENTOS CIENTÍFICOS: ENTRELAÇADOS PELA TEORIA DO PENSAMENTO COMPLEXO

The present work portrays fragments of the Dissertation entitled The Bahia-Buoyant, the Eagle and the Teaching of Science. The research is based on our concern about the great distance from the world of knowledge. On the one hand, the knowledge of tradition, often labeled as a dead archive without identity, on the other, the scientific knowledge found in the supremacy of institutionalized science. Moved by the plural voices, we make a trip, whose destination is the Mata do Passarinho Reserve. And as a strategy for the development of the research we made use of narratives, based on the Theory of Complex Thought, proposed by Edgar Morin. The results aim to present the importance of the approach between knowledge.El presente trabajo retrata fragmentos de la disertación titulada O Entufado-baiano, Águia and the Teaching of Science. La investigación se basa en nuestra preocupación por la gran distancia del mundo del conocimiento. Por un lado, el conocimiento de la tradición, a menudo etiquetado como un archivo muerto y sin identidad, por otro, el conocimiento científico, que se encuentra en la supremacía de la ciencia institucionalizada. Movidos por voces plurales, hacemos un viaje, cuyo destino es la Reserva Mata do Passarinho. Y como estrategia para el desarrollo de la investigación, utilizamos narrativas basadas en la Teoría del pensamiento complejo, propuesta por Edgar Morin. A female identify in conflict in O Primo Basílio, of Eça de Queirós

Tendo em vista a conduta da mulher oitocentista, em Portugal, dentro de um impasse entre desejos e punições, este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a identidade conflitante das personagens femininas em Eça de Queirós à luz de teorias feministas, tendo como objeto de estudo a obra O Primo Basílio (1878). Posteriormente, a partir da prosa queirosiana, traça-se um paralelo com a ideologia do “ser mulher” no mundo pós-moderno. Esta pesquisa utiliza-se como referencial teórico Bauman (2005), Beauvoir (1980), Butler (2003), Hall (2006), Moisés (2008), Reis (2007) e Saraiva & Lopes (2005). Conclui-se que diante da contradição que subjaz a figuração do feminino, urge a desconstrução das identidades fixas a fim de que se desmitifique a ideia conservadora de identidade.About conduct of nineteenth-century woman in a stalemate between wants and punishments, this article aims to analyze the identity of the female characters in the text of Eça de Queirós, based on feminist theories, with the object of study to work O Primo Basílio (1878). Álgebra Linear Numérica: Aplicações em Métodos Computacionais e sua Importância para a Engenharia

The present work aims to validate the importance oflinear algebra in computational methods and engineering courses, showing not only theoretical aspects but also practical applications of the discipline. Although the concepts of this area of mathematics are widely diffused in their theoretical field, their applicability often goes unnoticed, especially in the initial semesters of engineering courses, thus contributing to a difficult visualization of their usability. In this way, the need arises to demonstrate how the concepts apply in solving problems faced by engineers. In fact, these applications can be seen not only in computing, but also in other engineering. Therefore, it is essential to approach some of these uses, as well as their respective methods of implementationO presente trabalho tem como objetivo validar a importância da álgebra linear em métodos computacionais e cursos de engenharia, mostrando não só aspectos teóricos, como também aplicações práticas da disciplina. Apesar dos conceitos desta área matemática serem amplamente difundidos em seu campo teórico, muitas vezes sua aplicabilidade passa despercebida, principalmente em semestres iniciais dos cursos de engenharia, contribuindo assim, para uma difícil visualização de sua usabilidade. Desta forma, surge a necessidade de demonstrar como os conceitos se aplicam na resolução de problemas enfrentados pelos engenheiros. De fato, estas aplicações podem ser vistas não só na computação, como também em outras engenharias. Sendo assim, é fundamental a abordagem de alguns destes usos, bem como seus respectivos métodos de execução

O Sound design da série Twin Peaks e a herança de Alan Splet

Este artigo examina o sound design da série televisiva Twin Peaks (TWIN…, 1990-1991), criada por David Lynch e Mark Frost. Analisam-se distorções ou substituições de vozes, técnicas que Lynch havia empregado em um curta e em quatro longas-metragens, com o sound designer Alan Splet. O objetivo é identificar na série, realizada após o término da parceria com Lynch, a persistência do tipo de elaboração sonora de Splet. O exame da mais recente temporada de Twin Peaks (TWIN…,2017) mostra que se intensificaram recursos sonoros das temporadas anteriores, em conjunção com a trama mais ousada em termos narrativos. O artigo fundamentase em Michel Chion quanto ao som e em Luiz Manzano quanto ao sound design. O conceito de brincadeira infinita, de James Carse, e o ensaio de Angela Hague sobre o método investigativo do agente Cooper ajudam a entender a relação entre sonoridade e trama ficcional.This article examines the sound design of the television series Twin Peaks, created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. The focus is on the distortions or substitutions of voices, which are techniques that Lynch had used in a short and four feature-length films, with the sound designer Alan Splet. The aim is to identify any remains of Splet’s type of sound creation in the series, produced after the end of his partnership with Lynch. The analysis of the latest Twin Peaks season (2017) shows sound resources of earlier seasons have been intensified, in conjunction with the more daring plot concerning its storytelling. This article is based on Michel Chion regarding sound and on Luiz Manzano regarding sound design. James Carse’s concept of infinite game and Angela Hague’s essay on the agent Cooper’s investigative method help in understanding the relation between sound and fictional plot

Use of orange peel (citrus sinensis) in the bioabsorption of potentially toxic metals from water resources through ICP-OES

Water is the main resource for the world and humankind subsistence, being also used as a way to conduct nutrients and essential substances to life. The objective of this research was to evaluate the use of orange peel (Citrus sineses) as an adsorbent in water contaminated by heavy metals. To investigate this question, the group used calculations to know the recovery percentage of each analyzed metal, using 0.5g of adsorbent in solutions containing metals (Pb, Fe, Zn, Ni and Mn) with previously known concentrations in mg L-1. The metal analyzes were performed in an inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-OES). The analysis of the response surfaces indicated that the greater mass of adsorbent there was a greater adsorption rate. Based on the obtained responses, 13 mg L-1 of Pb were reduced to 0.44 mg L-1, using 0.5 g of adsorbent, resulting in 96.7% of efficiency for the applied methodology. There was removal of metals in higher concentrations bands and mass, presenting efficiencies from 64.3% to 98.2%. The orange peel was adequate as an adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals from the solution

Efficacy of albendazole and moxidectin and resistance to ivermectin against Libyostrongylus douglassii and Libyostrongylus dentatus in ostriches

AbstractAnthelmintic resistance has emerged globally as a problem amongst nematode of livestock and has been particularly well documented in equine and small ruminants. There are no studies regarding the efficacy of anthelmintics against the hematophagous nematodes in ostriches, Libyostrongylus dentatus; and just a few on L. douglassii. Here the efficacy of albendazole, ivermectin and moxidectin were evaluated against these two species in an ostrich farm in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The feces were collected on the day of treatment and after 13days of an oral dose of albendazole (6mg/kg), or an injected dose (0.2mg/kg) of ivermectin or moxidectin. The fecal egg count reduction test and coprocultures were performed to determine possible resistance against the drugs used. An efficacy of 60% was found for ivermectin, while albendazole and moxidectin were 100% effective. Both worm species appeared to have reduced sensitivity to ivermectin
