Expression of certainty and doubt on stuttering : study of speech’s temporal features

OBJETIVO: examinar o papel da organização temporal do discurso na expressão das atitudes de certeza e dúvida em grupo de adultos com gagueira, comparando-a em um grupo de adultos fluentes. MÉTODO: participaram desta pesquisa 24 indivíduos, sendo 12 com gagueira (GE1 e GE2) e 12 sem gagueira (GC). Foram coletadas amostras que teve como base um corpus de 10 frases chave que foram produzidas nas formas neutra, de dúvida e de certeza, totalizando 840 enunciados. A análise acústica foi realizada por meio do programa Praat e os seguintes parâmetros foram analisados: tempos e taxas de elocução e articulação, ocorrência e duração de pausas e disfluências, duração das vogais tônica e pré-tônica e ocorrência da vogal pós-tônica. A análise estatística foi realizada por meio dos testes Kruskall Wallis e qui-quadrado, com índice de significância de 95%. RESULTADOS: a expressão da dúvida apresenta taxa de articulação mais baixa no grupo controle, seguida da forma neutra e de certeza, com diferenças estatisticamente significantes. Ainda no grupo controle, foi observado presença de pausas e disfluências somente na expressão de dúvida. No grupo experimental, a maior diferença encontrada foi na duração da vogal da sílaba tônica. CONCLUSÃO: de uma forma geral, o GC variou mais sua organização temporal a fim de expressar as atitudes. No entanto, é possível observar também uma tendência semelhante no grupo de pessoas com gagueira. Quanto à velocidade de fala, ao retirar as pausas e as disfluências, vemos que tanto GE1 quanto GE2 diferenciam a certeza, articulando cada sílaba de forma mais rápida. ________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTPURPOSE: to examine the role of speech temporal organization on the expression as for the attitudes of certainty and doubt in the group of adults who stutter, comparing such analysis with a group of speech-fluent adults. METHOD: we analyzed 24 individuals, 12 with stuttering (SG1 and SG2) and 12 without stuttering (CG). Samples were collected with a corpus of 10 key phrases that were produced in the neutral form, expressing doubt and certainty, totaling 840 utterances. The acoustic analysis was performed using Praat and the following parameters were analyzed: time and speech rate and articulation, presence and duration of pauses and disfluencies, duration of vowels in pre-tonic and tonic syllables and occurrence of post-tonic vowel. Statistical analysis was performed by using Kruskall Wallis and chi-square tests, with a significance level of 95%. RESULTS: the expression of doubt has the lowest rate of articulation in the control group, followed by neutral and certainty expressions, with statistically significant differences. Also in the control group, there was presence of pauses and disfluencies only in the expression of doubt. In the experimental group, the largest difference was found in the vowel duration of the stressed syllable. CONCLUSION: generally speaking, CG varied more its temporal organization in order to express attitudes. However, it is also possible to note a trend in the group of people who stutter. As for the speech rate, by removing the pauses and disfluencies, we see that both GE1 and GE2 differentiate certainty, faster articulating each syllable

Working and living in Russia: small guide to intercultural interaction

To address business global demands, multinationals are expanding abroad and so the expatriation process increases. Most of the times, workers are transferred to an international office to fulfil an overseas assignment and the company takes care of the whole relocation process. In addition, intercultural training is readied by the company so that the expatriate becomes culturally sensitive. However, in a globalisation-dominated world in which mobility and communication between companies and workers is so facilitated, the number of expatriates who venture on their own has also been increasing. While expatriation can occur in any country, the current dissertation focuses on expatriation to Russia, and addresses the perspective of the foreign investor wishing to invest in the Russian market, but mainly the self-initiated expat wishing to find a job in Russia. Without a company to back up, the self-initiated expat must plan and prepare all the relocation process by herself/himself. To support such a process, a booklet is provided with guidelines that serves as a starting line for expatriates looking to face the challenging and rewarding experience of living and working in Russia.A crescente globalização dos mercados, tem feito com que as empresas, nomeadamente as multinacionais, se internacionalizem cada vez mais, o que tem levado a um aumento considerável do número de expatriados. Na maioria das vezes, os colaboradores são transferidos para um escritório internacional para cumprir uma missão no estrangeiro, encarregando-se a empresa de todo o processo de deslocamento. Além disso, uma formação intercultural é preparada pela empresa para que o expatriado se torne culturalmente mais sensível. No entanto, num mundo dominado pela globalização, em que a mobilidade e a comunicação entre empresas e trabalhadores estão tão facilitadas, o número de expatriados que se aventuram por iniciativa própria também tem vindo a aumentar. Embora a expatriação possa ocorrer para qualquer país, a presente tese foca-se na expatriação para a Rússia, abordada na perspetiva quer do investidor estrangeiro que deseja investir no mercado russo, quer principalmente do expatriado por iniciativa própria que procura encontrar um emprego na Rússia. Sem o apoio de uma empresa, o expatriado por iniciativa própria deve planear e preparar todo o processo de realocação sozinho. Growth and debt in Angola at provincial level

This paper analyses GDP growth and public debt at the provincial level in Angola from 2004-2015, using a spatial model. First a SAC -Spatial autocorrelation model panel is estimated. Later, a robust test is adopted estimating the Hans-Philips linear spatial dynamic model. Finally, a spatial 3sls model is estimated taking into account the possibility endogeneity of regional spatial autocorrelation. Gradings and Graded Identities for the Matrix Algebra of Order Two in Characteristic 2

2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: 16R10, 16R99, 16W50.Let K be an infinite field and let M2(K) be the matrix algebra of order two over K. The polynomial identities of M2(K) are known whenever the characteristic of K is different from 2. The algebra M2(K) admits a natural grading by the cyclic group of order 2; the graded identities for this grading are known as well. But M2(K) admits other gradings that depend on the field and on its characteristic. Here we describe the graded identities for all nontrivial gradings by the cyclic group of order 2 when the characteristic of K equals 2. It turns out that there is only one grading to consider. This grading is not elementary. O software GeoGebra no ensino introdutório de sistemas dinâmicos: uma pesquisa com alunos de bacharelado em matemática

O presente artigo apresenta uma pesquisa que investigou as contribuições de uma sequência didática relacionada à dinâmica de sistemas planares de equações diferenciais, utilizando o software GeoGebra, para a aprendizagem de Introdução aos Sistemas Dinâmicos. A metodologia de pesquisa qualitativa foi desenvolvida com alunos do curso de bacharelado em matemática de uma universidade federal brasileira, matriculados na disciplina introdução aos sistemas dinâmicos. Como conclusões da pesquisa, apresentamos as seguintes contribuições para a aprendizagem: o dinamismo presente no desenvolvimento das atividades da sequência didática, possibilitando a aprendizagem dos alunos a partir da investigação / interpretação de resultados; a complementação entre as abordagens teórico-algébrica e gráfico-visual, por meio da visualização proporcionada pelo GeoGebra

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES ANALYSES OF THE GASTROCNEMIUS MUSCLE ELECTRICAL STIMULATED AFTER IMMOBILIZATION

This study evaluated some mechanical properties of the gastrocnemius muscle immobilized and submitted to neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) through Russian current. Thirty-two (32) Wistar female rats were used, divided into four groups: control (CG), immobilized (IG); immobilized and later free mobilization (IFG) immobilized and later NMES (NMESG). Mechanical experiment of longitudinal traction was carried out to attain the mechanical properties. Results: maximum load 33.68±3.58N (CG), 18.36±4.43N (IG), 25.54±2.88N (IFG) and 28.25±5.88N (NMESG). Maximum elongation 18.37±0.49x10-3m (CG), 10.84±2.11x10-3m (IG), 15.82±1.71x10-3m (IFG) and 17.08±2.30x10-3m (NMESG). Stiffness 1555.14±222.43N/m (CG), 2193.60±847.90N/m (IG), 1715.25±137.25N/m (IFG) and 1654.80±262.28N/m (NMESG). The study suggests that the NMES is not capable to reestablish the muscle mechanical properties after the immobilization

Num contexto protagonizado por grandes infraestruturas logísticas e a relação marítima com a cidade de Sines, o exercício pretende gerar novos espaços que acentuam e estabelecem uma nova forma de habitar este sistema híbrido entre a Indústria e a Cidade. O projeto desenvolvido na dissertação integra parte das preexistências e comporta, no essencial, três novas intervenções com o objetivo, de resolver transições entre espaços antagónicos e torná-los complementares entre si. Assim sendo, a plataforma litoral de Sines surge como um espaço único de transição entre terra e mar. No sentido de fortalecer a ligação entre estas entidades, a proposta vem redesenhar uma nova linha de costa e estabelecer diversas ligações de cota com este eixo de transição reestruturando a forma como este espaço é vivido

Simultaneous determination of ketoacids and dicarbonyl compounds, key Maillard intermediates on the generation of aged wine aroma

The aim of thiswork was the simultaneous determination of both ketoacids and dicarbonyl compounds in wine.Todetect ketoacidcompoundsin wine,amethodbasedonthequinoxaline derivativesby the reaction with diaminobenzene, currently employed to detectα-dicarbonyl compounds, was developed. The quinoxaline derivatives were detected by RP-HPLC with UV detection, which allows the determination of the major dicarbonyl compounds in wine: glyoxal, methylglyoxal, diacetyl and pentane-2,6-dione, and the quinoxaline/quinoxalinol derivatives of α-keto-γ-(methylthio)butyric acid and β-phenylpyruvic acid (intermediate ketoacid compounds of methional and phenylacetaldehyde) were simultaneously detected by a fluorescence detector. The identification was performed by comparison with standards and also by using LC-MSMS. The levels found in 15 wines analyzed (white wines,Madeira wines, and Port wines) diverge according to the type and the age of the wine. The ketoacid compounds ranged from 0.2 to 5.7 mg/L for α-keto-γ-(methylthio)butyric acid and 0.1 to 9.6 mg/L for β-phenylpyruvic acid.
