Obtaining the basic response pattern of physiological time series data : a comparison of methods

    Get PDF
An understanding of the kinetics of physiological variables such as the heart rate or the rate of change of volume of oxygen uptake is fundamental not only to training methodology and competitive success in sport and exercise, but also to our knowledge of cardiovascular health. A correct and efficient means of interpreting and analyzing the data obtained is of vast importance, as exercise testing is routinely used in both of these areas

INEF12Basketball Dataset and the Group Behavior Recognition Issue

Proceedings of: 9th Conference on Practical Applications of Agents and Multi-Agent Systems. Workshop on User-Centric Technologies and Applications (CONTEXTS 2012), Salamanca, March 28-30, 2012Activity recognition is one of the most prolific fields of research. For this reason, there are new fields of research that expand the possibilities of the activity recognition: Group behavior recognition. This field does not limit the number of elements in the scene, and there are a lot of new elements that must be analyzed. Each group, like each individual element, has its behavior, but this behavior depends on their elements, and the relationships between these elements. All these new elements cause that group behavior recognition was a new field of research, with some similar elements but it must be studied apart. This way, group behavior recognition is a novel field, in which there are not many researches and there are not many datasets that could be used by researchers. This situation causes the slow advance of the science in this field. This paper tries to show a complete description of the problem domain, with all the possible variants, a formal description and show a novel architecture used to solve this issue. Also describes a specific group behavior recognition dataset, and shows how it could be usedThis work was supported in part by Projects CICYT TIN2011-28620-C02-01, CICYT TEC2011-28626-C02-02, CAMCONTEXTS (S2009/TIC-1485) and DPS2008-07029-C02-02Publicad

Population genomics of post-glacial western Eurasia.

Western Eurasia witnessed several large-scale human migrations during the Holocene 1-5 . Here, to investigate the cross-continental effects of these migrations, we shotgun-sequenced 317 genomes-mainly from the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods-from across northern and western Eurasia. These were imputed alongside published data to obtain diploid genotypes from more than 1,600 ancient humans. Our analyses revealed a 'great divide' genomic boundary extending from the Black Sea to the Baltic. Mesolithic hunter-gatherers were highly genetically differentiated east and west of this zone, and the effect of the neolithization was equally disparate. Large-scale ancestry shifts occurred in the west as farming was introduced, including near-total replacement of hunter-gatherers in many areas, whereas no substantial ancestry shifts happened east of the zone during the same period. Similarly, relatedness decreased in the west from the Neolithic transition onwards, whereas, east of the Urals, relatedness remained high until around 4,000 BP, consistent with the persistence of localized groups of hunter-gatherers. The boundary dissolved when Yamnaya-related ancestry spread across western Eurasia around 5,000 BP, resulting in a second major turnover that reached most parts of Europe within a 1,000-year span. The genetic origin and fate of the Yamnaya have remained elusive, but we show that hunter-gatherers from the Middle Don region contributed ancestry to them. Yamnaya groups later admixed with individuals associated with the Globular Amphora culture before expanding into Europe. Similar turnovers occurred in western Siberia, where we report new genomic data from a 'Neolithic steppe' cline spanning the Siberian forest steppe to Lake Baikal. These prehistoric migrations had profound and lasting effects on the genetic diversity of Eurasian populations

The purpose of this research was to know the goals and the relationship between the expectations of success and performance in a professional soccer team during the three seasons studied (2010-2011, 2011-2012 and 2012-2013). Participants included 41 professional players from a second division team in the "A" Professional Football League of Spain. Interviews and different instruments were used to assess the establishment of goals and expectations of success, and the performance was measured through classification. The results showed significant differences (p<.01) of the expectations of success in relation to the performance. In addition, it can be said that establishment of goals has a positive influence on the players and the team.Sin financiaciónNo data 201

Efficacy and safety of administering oral misoprostol by titration compared to vaginal misoprostol and dinoprostone for cervical ripening and induction of labour: study protocol for a randomised clinical trial

    No full text
Abstract Background Among the various methods available, the administration of prostaglandins is the most effective for inducing labour in women with an unfavourable cervix. Recent studies have compared treatment with various titrated doses of oral misoprostol with vaginal misoprostol or dinoprostone, indicating that the use of an escalating dose of an oral misoprostol solution is associated with a lower rate of caesarean sections and a better safety profile. The objective of this study is to assess which of these three therapeutic options (oral or vaginal misoprostol or vaginal dinoprostone) achieves the highest rate of vaginal delivery within the first 24 h of drug administration. Methods An open-label randomised controlled trial will be conducted in Araba University Hospital (Spain). Women at ≥41 weeks of pregnancy requiring elective induction of labour who meet the selection criteria will be randomly allocated to one of three groups: 1) vaginal dinoprostone (delivered via a controlled-release vaginal insert containing 10 mg of dinoprostone, for up to 24 h); 2) vaginal misoprostol (25 μg of vaginal misoprostol every 4 h up to a maximum of 24 h); and 3) oral misoprostol (titrated doses of 20 to 60 μg of misoprostol following a 3 h on + 1 h off regimen up to a maximum of 24 h). Both intention-to-treat analysis and per-protocol analysis will be performed. Discussion The proposed study seeks to gather evidence on which of these three therapeutic options achieves the highest rate of vaginal delivery with the best safety profile, to enable obstetricians to use the most effective and safe option for their patients. Alguns aspectos abordando a etiologia, associação com outras afecções e tratamento cirúrgico são discutidos.<br>Two patients harboring giant frontal mucoceles are reported. In both cases complaints of chronic headaches and progressive unilateral proptosis were preponderant. Surgical treatment included a frontal craniotomy with excision of the lesion, skull base reinforcement with pedicled galea and wide opening of the frontal sinuses. In the second case an intranasal endoscopic approach was combined with craniotomy at the same surgical operative time. Some aspects regarding etiology, association with other diseases and some surgical aspects are discussed
