    RSM 1.0 user's guide: A resupply scheduler using integer optimization

    The Resupply Scheduling Model (RSM) is a PC based, fully menu-driven computer program. It uses integer programming techniques to determine an optimum schedule to replace components on or before a fixed replacement period, subject to user defined constraints such as transportation mass and volume limits or available repair crew time. Principal input for RSJ includes properties such as mass and volume and an assembly sequence. Resource constraints are entered for each period corresponding to the component properties. Though written to analyze the electrical power system on the Space Station Freedom, RSM is quite general and can be used to model the resupply of almost any system subject to user defined resource constraints. Presented here is a step by step procedure for preparing the input, performing the analysis, and interpreting the results.     We obtain a representation formula for the derivative of the spectral shift function ξ(λ;B,ϵ)\xi(\lambda; B, \epsilon) related to the operators H0(B,ϵ)=(DxBy)2+Dy2+ϵxH_0(B,\epsilon) = (D_x - By)^2 + D_y^2 + \epsilon x and H(B,ϵ)=H0(B,ϵ)+V(x,y),B>0,ϵ>0H(B, \epsilon) = H_0(B, \epsilon) + V(x,y), \: B > 0, \epsilon > 0. We establish a limiting absorption principle for H(B,ϵ)H(B, \epsilon) and an estimate O(ϵn2){\mathcal O}(\epsilon^{n-2}) for ξ(λ;B,ϵ)\xi'(\lambda; B, \epsilon), provided λσ(Q)\lambda \notin \sigma(Q), where $Q = (D_x - By)^2 + D_y^2 + V(x,y).

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, and the medical profession, among others, have attempted to broaden consumers' knowledge of the nutritive content of foods. Retailers provide information by supplying point-of-purchase nutrition information and/or nutrition labels on fresh meats. The availability of nutrition information on packaged fresh meats is relatively new. A survey of Louisiana households provided estimates of their knowledge of the fat, cholesterol, and protein content of selected combinations of fresh beef, pork, chicken, and turkey meats.     We consider solutions of the one-dimensional equation u+(Q+λV)u=0-u'' +(Q+ \lambda V) u = 0 where Q:RRQ: \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R} is locally integrable, V:RRV : \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R} is integrable with supp(V)[0,1](V) \subset [0,1], and λR\lambda \in \mathbb{R} is a coupling constant. Given a family of solutions {uλ}λR\{u_{\lambda} \}_{\lambda \in \mathbb{R}} which satisfy uλ(x)=u0(x)u_{\lambda}(x) = u_0(x) for all x<0x<0, we prove that the zeros of b(λ):=W[u0,uλ]b(\lambda) := W[u_0, u_{\lambda}], the Wronskian of u0u_0 and uλu_{\lambda}, form a discrete set unless V0V \equiv 0. Setting Q(x):=EQ(x) := -E, one sees that a particular consequence of this result may be stated as: if the fixed energy scattering experiment u+λVu=Eu-u'' + \lambda V u = Eu gives rise to a reflection coefficient which vanishes on a set of couplings with an accumulation point, then V0V \equiv 0.Comment: To appear in Journal of Mathematical Physic
