Proximal Abduction Ulnar Osteotomy (PAUL): Short- and Long-Term Evaluation in Dogs Presenting Medial Compartment Disease
Developmental elbow disease is one of the main causes of lameness in the canine
species and occurs often in large and giant breed dogs. The most frequent manifestation of this
pathology is known as medial compartment disease due to a physiological overload in the medial
region of the elbow. It is considered as a complex disease and the treatment is focused on relieving
the pain and slowing the progression of osteoarthritis. The Proximal Abduction Ulnar Osteotomy
(PAUL) technique is one of the newest techniques whose purpose is the transmission of loads from
the medial to the lateral compartment. In this prospective case series, the authors use the combination
of elbow arthroscopy and the PAUL technique and report a significant improvement in clinical signs,
showing a low major complications rate with a high degree of owner satisfaction.Ciencias Experimentale

Natural history of irritable bowel syndrome
ProducciĂłn CientĂficaIBS). The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of chronic functional digestive symptoms in childhood, interviewing adult patients diagnosed with IBS, in an attempt to establish a relationship between them.
METHODS:
By means of a questionnaire, the history of colic, chronic diarrhea, functional abdominal pain, constipation and migraine in childhood, was analyzed in patients diagnosed with IBS according to the current Rome III criteria, and in control patients without known chronic digestive disorders. Fisher's exact test was used for comparison of frequencies.
RESULTS:
The IBS study group was made up of 40 patients (24 women; average age, 33.03 years), and the control group by 40 adults (22 women; average age, 29.62 years). IBS-diagnosed adults spoke about a significantly higher prevalence of chronic diarrhea (32.5/7.5%; odds ratio [OR], 7.01; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 26.84-1.80), and FAP (37.5/15%; OR, 4.30; 95%CI: 12.67-1.43) in their childhood, than the control group. There were no differences in the presence of other childhood functional symptoms. Interestingly, the present patients, when asked about the onset of symptoms that led to the diagnosis of IBS, referred to them mostly beginning in adulthood, not linking their current diagnosis of IBS with their background in childhood.
In a proportion of adults with IBS the natural history of their symptoms probably began during their childhood.(IBS). Improvement of SiNx : H/InP gate structures for the fabrication of metal-insulator-semiconductor field-effect transistors
In this paper we report on the optimization of the SiNchi:H insulator, deposited by the electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma method, as a dielectric for metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structures built on an InP compound semiconductor. Two different MIS structures have been obtained in which the minimum of the interface trap density (D-it,D-min) at the insulator/InP interface attains values of device quality. In the first structure, a Al/SiN1.5:H/SiN1.6:H/InP dual-layer insulator was obtained and optimized after rapid thermal annealing treatment at 500 degreesC for 30s. After this treatment, the value of D-it,D-min was 9 x 10(11) cm(-2) eV(-1). In the second structure, the MIS structure was Al/SiN1.6:H/InP single-layer insulator, in which the InP surface was exposed to an N-2 plasma prior to the SiN1.6:H film deposition. In this case, the value of D-it.min was 1.6 x 10(12) cm(-2) eV(-1). Both types of structures were used as gate insulators on N-channel enhanced-mode MIS field-effect transistor test devices. From the dc output characteristics of the transistors, we obtain values for the electron channel mobility in the range 1550-1600 cm(-2) V-1 s(-1). This is a confirmation of the great potential of the ECR plasma method as a simple way to obtain device quality gate structures on InP without the use of passivation processes of the InP surface prior to the deposition of the gate dielectric, thus simplifying the whole device fabrication procedure
Low-Cost Three-Quadrant Single Solar Cell I-V Tracer
An I-V curve measurement technique is one of the most important techniques available
for characterising photovoltaic cells. Measuring an accurate I-V curve at the single-cell level is a
challenging task because of the low voltages and high currents implied, requiring the management of
very low impedances. In this paper, the authors propose a low-cost device for I-V curve measurements
of single (or small amounts) of cells in a series based on the charge transfer between two capacitors
of equal capacitance. Our measurement strategy allows us to trace the usual first quadrant curve
(the normal working region of solar cells) as well as the second and fourth quadrants of the I-V
curve, which are quite important for research purposes. A prototype was built to demonstrate the
feasibility and successful measurements of the three-quadrant I-V curve, obtained for more than
20 different cells. To use the device in a laboratory, without depending on the solar irradiation, a
modular platform was 3D-printed, integrating a board with infrared LEDs as irradiating devices, and
housing (to place the solar cell under test). The result is a useful low-cost setup for three-quadrant
I-V curve tracing that works as expected.Proyecto de InvestigaciĂłn PID2020-113533RB-C33 (MCIN
A Resonant Ring Topology Approach to Power Line Communication Systems within Photovoltaic Plants
Within this study, single-cable propagation facilitated by PV strings’ wiring characteristics is considered for an adapted design of PLC electronics. We propose to close the communications signal path, resulting in a ring topology where a resonance condition could be implemented. A PLC topology using the resulting circular closed-loop path of a PV series string as its physical communication support is designed and leveraged for practical use. When the path length or the number of transceivers is changed, the resonance properties that come with the circular path as the physical support are affected but are shown to be preserved with the application of automatic adjustable tuning. This automatic tuning guarantees that the resonance improves propagation parameters and reverts the system to its optimal values at the chosen carrier frequency. This study was supported by the Universidad of Valladolid with the predoctoral contracts of 2020 cofunded by Santander Bank. Cost Effective Use of a Thiosulfinate-Enriched Allium sativum Extract in Combination with Chemotherapy in Colon Cancer
In this work, we sought to investigate the effects of a thiosulfinate-enriched garlic extract, co-administered with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) or oxaliplatin chemotherapy, on the viability of colon cancer cells (Caco-2 and HT-29). We also addressed the economic feasibility of a new combined treatment of this thiosulfinate-enriched garlic extract, with oxaliplatin that could reduce the dosage and costs of a monotherapy. The thiosulfinate-enriched garlic extract not only enhanced the impact of 5-FU and oxaliplatin (500 µM) in decreasing Caco-2 and HT-29 viability, but also showed a higher effect than standard 5-FU and oxaliplatin chemotherapy as anti-cancer agents. These results provided evidences for the combination of lyophilized garlic extract and 5-FU or oxaliplatin as a novel chemotherapy regimen in colon cancer cells that may also reduce the clinical therapy costs.
