    Pemanfaatan Ruang Bersama sebagai Area Belajar pada Asrama Putra Universitas Brawijaya Malang

    Pendidikan merupakan salah satu poin penting di dalam mengukur kemajuan suatu bangsa, termasuk Indonesia. Saat ini sistem pendidikan pada perguruan tinggi mengalami Perubahan serining berkembangnya zaman. Konsep pendidikan secara formal (di dalam kelas) tidak cukup untuk mendukung kegiatan pembelajaran mahasiswa, sehingga konsep pembelajaran learning byself menjadi sebuah solusi permasalahan tersebut. Pada Universitas Brawijaya, diketahui bahwa area-area bersama yang tersebar di area kampus selalu dimanfaatkan oleh mahasiswa untuk area belajar mereka. Dari observasi awal tersebut mendapatkan sebuah hipotesa awal bahwa mahasiswa membutuhkan sebuah learning space untuk mendukung kebutuhan belajar mereka. Kemudian dari hipotesa tersebut, diterapkan Asrama Putra UB sebagai objek penelitian. Sehingga tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ruang bersama asrama saat ini sudah mengakomodir kebutuhan belajar mereka, serta bagaimana rancangan ruang bersama yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan bersama mereka?. Sehingga terdapat dua tahapan penelitian secara kuantitatif, yang pertama adalah untuk mengetahui kebutuhan belajar mereka sebagai mahasiswa dan kebutuhan belajar pada ruang bersama asrama. Kemudian hasilnya diketahui bahwa ruang bersama belum mengakomodir kegiatan belajar mereka, sehingga dilanjutkan pada tahap kedua dengan mengevaluasi ruang bersama yang ada untuk mengetahui mengapa mereka kurang memanfaatkan ruang bersama tersebut, dan hasilnya dapat menjadi masukan untuk rancangan ruang bersama yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan belajar penghuni asrama sebagai mahasiswa

    Common snook fed in alternate and continuous regimens with diet supplemented with Bacillus subtilis probiotic.

    The objective of this work was to evaluate the addition of Bacillus subtilis probiotic to the feed of common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) fingerlings, in alternate and continuous regimens. Six hundred and sixty fish, with verage length of 5.90±0.88 cm and weight of 1.92±0.28g, were stocked in 12 cages of 1.0 m 3 , with 55 fish each. The experimental design was completely randomized, with three treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of diet with the addition of probiotic, provided in alternate regimen for 7 days and in continuous regimen; besides a control without probiotic in the feed. Zootechnical performance, body composition, immune response, and blood parameters were evaluated. No significant differences were observed in zootechnical performance indexes and in body composition of fish treated with probiotic, when compared to the control. Fish from the alternate regimen showed an increment in respiratory burst and a lower total erythrocyte count than fish from the continuous regimen and the control. Fish from the continuous regimen did not differ from those of the control. The addition of Bacillus subtilis does not increase growth rates of common snook fingerlings; however, it has an immunostimulant action when supplied in alternate regimen.Título em português: Robalo?flecha alimentado em regimes alternado e contínuo com dieta suplementada com o probiótico Bacillus subtilis

    Kikuio grass (Pennisetum clandestinum Hochst) is beyond any doubt, a pasture very important for farm animals; since its chemical composition is very similar to that of alfalfa, the present field trial was carried out; a randomized block design with 8 treatments was selected as follows: 1 N - P - K - Ca - Mg (complete manuring) 2 N - P - K - Ca----- (without Mg) 3 N - P - K-------Mg (without Ca) 4 ----P - K - Ca - Mg (without N) 5 N------K - Ca Mg (without P) 6 N - P - Ca - Mg (without K) 7 organic matter (without mineral fertilizers) 8 control Nitrogen was applied as NaN03 (topdressed) and as ammonium sulfate; P2O5 was given as superphosphate associated to bonemeal; K2O was applied as muriate, CaO as "sambaquis" (oyster shells); MgO was given as MgSO4 (topdressed). The source of organic matter was farmyard manure. As far yields are concerned the following observations were made: 1. treatment n. 7 was superior to all others; 2. considering the mineral fertilizers, good responses were due to N and P2O5; 3. the control yield was exceedingly poor, being inferior to all the others treatments; The chemical analyses revealed that: 1. the protein content decreased accordingly to this order: 7, 6, 5 and 1; treatment 4 (without N) gave the lowest protein content; 2. treatment n. 4 produced the highest fat content; treatment no. 7 ranked second; no. 8 gave the lowest fat content; 3. crude fiber: highest - treatment 7; lowest - 8; 4. ashes: the ashes content was higher in treatment 5; proprobably because the most abundant element in the ashes is K, the ash content of treatment 6 (no K) was very low; 5. non nitrogenous substances (determined by difference) - high in treatment 8 and low in treatment 7; 6. mineral elements in the ashes - the element omitted from a given treatment was very low in the grasses therein obtained; this shows the relative poverty of the soil in that element. As general remark the Authors suggest the use of farmyard manure in the fertilization of Kikuio grass; farmyard manure could probably substitute wither green manure or compost

    An integrated magneto-optic modulator for cryogenic applications

    Superconducting circuits can operate at higher energy efficiencies than their room-temperature counterparts and have the potential to enable large-scale control and readout of quantum computers. However, the required interface with room-temperature electronics creates difficulties in scaling up such cryogenic systems. One option is to use optical fibres as a medium in conjunction with fast optical modulators that can be efficiently driven by electrical signals at low temperatures. However, as superconducting circuits are current operated with low impedances, they interface poorly with conventional electro-optical modulators. Here we report an integrated current-driven modulator that is based on the magneto-optic effect and can operate at temperatures as low as 4 K. The device combines a magneto-optic garnet crystal with a silicon waveguide resonator and integrates an electromagnet to modulate the refractive index of the garnet. The modulator offers data rates of up to 2 Gbps with an energy consumption below 4 pJ per bit of transferred information, which could be reduced to less than 50 fJ per bit by replacing dissipative electrodes with superconductors and optimizing the geometric parameters

    Water toxicity and cyto-genotoxicity biomarkers in the fish Oreochromis niloticus (Cichlidae)

    Micronucleus (MN) and nuclear abnormalities (NA) tests were used as biomarkers in the fish Oreochromis niloticus from a polluted pond in winter, spring and summer. Samples of water column were taken aiming to evaluate physical-chemical parameters and acute toxicity to the microcrustacean Daphnia similis. The pond waters were toxic to D. similis in spring and winter, but this toxicity was not detected in summer. The pond waters presented low levels of dissolved oxygen in spring and summer; higher ammonia concentrations in winter, and high hardness and conductivity. Fish collected at the polluted pond exhibited higher rates of DNA damage, as indicated by increased rates of MN and NA in erythrocytes when compared to the negative control, which were associated to water toxicity and physical-chemical variable. Thus, this study shows that results of water toxicity tests and genotoxic biomarkers in fish may be associated and theses approaches may be used together for the water quality assessment.Keywords: fish, cyto-genotoxicity, pollution, ecotoxicology, water quality
