Ferromagnetism and magneto-dielectric effect in insulating LaBiMn4/3Co2/3O6 thin films
High quality epitaxial thin films of LaBiMn4/3Co2/3O6 perovskite were
fabricated on (001)-oriented SrTiO3 and LaAlO3 substrates by the pulsed laser
deposition technique. Magnetization measurements reveal a strong magnetic
anisotropy and a ferromagnetic behavior that is in agreement with a
super-exchange interaction between Mn4+ and Co2+ ions, which are randomly
distributed in the B-site. A distinct anomaly is observed in the dielectric
measurements at 130K corresponding to the onset of the magnetic ordering,
suggesting a coupling. Above this temperature, the extrinsic Maxwell-Wagner
effect is dominating. Theses results are explained using the Raman
spectroscopic studies indicating a weak spin-lattice interaction around this
magnetic transition.Comment: Submitted to Appl. Phys. Lett. (2008
Copepod Abundance and Diversity from Offshore Region of Tuticorin, South East Coast of India
A detailed study had been carried out on species abundance, biomass and composition of copepod in four different offshore stations namely, Station I: Vembar, II: Keelavaipar, III: Punnaikayal and IV: Thiruchendhur in Gulf of Mannar region from October 2011 to April 2012. A total of 56 copepod species belongs to 20 families under 4 orders have been encountered during the period. The percentage composition of different groups of copepod species was composed of Calanoida (35 numbers) 62.5%, Cyclopoida (4 numbers) 7.14%, Harpacticoida (8 numbers) 14.3% and Poecilostomatoida (9 numbers) 16.1%. The percentage of biomass composition of different groups of copepods during the study was in the order of Calanoida 38.99%, Harpacticoida 32.56%, Cyclopoida 15.22% and Poecilostomatoida 13.23%. In the case of species composition, Euterpina acutifrons (28.61%) was the most abundant species followed by Acrocalanus gracilis (17.68%), Corycaeus crassiusculus (12.33%), Oithona brevicornis (12.03%) and Temora turbinata (4.25%) were the other dominant species in observation. The copepod density in different stations were in the range of 8600–39900, 3900–64600, 3800–24800 and 5000–22500 numbers m-3 at station I, II, II and IV respectively. The lowest biomass of copepod was observed at station III and highest biomass was found at station II. The copepod species richness ranged from 0.48 to 2.72 and species diversity was in the range of 0.87 to 1.98 in the study areas. Species evenness was varied from 0.24 – 0.51 during the observation period

Ethyl 2-[N-(2-formylphenyl)benzenesulfonamido]acetate
In the molecule of the title compound, C17H17NO5S, the two aromatic rings are oriented at an angle of 30.13 (10)°. The ethyl acetate group assumes an extended conformation. Molecules are linked into C(7) chains running along the a axis by intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, and the chains are crosslinked via C—H⋯π interactions, with the sulfonyl-bound phenyl ring acting as an acceptor
Incidence of amyloodiniosis in snubnose pompano juveniles and its effective control in marine hatchery
Amyloodiniosis infection in snubnose pompano was reported in marine fish hatcheries of ICAR-CMFRI during preparation for certain feeding experiments in this fish that is of aquaculture importance. The control and elimination of Amyloodinium sp. from the hatchery system is a herculean but vital task and several methods were carried out following the infection. These were evaluated for their usefulness and are reported below
Efficient adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration to below 50 mK with UHV compatible Ytterbium diphosphates YbPO (Na, K)
Attaining milli-Kelvin temperatures is often a prerequisite for the study of
novel quantum phenomena and the operation of quantum devices. Adiabatic
demagnetization refrigeration (ADR) is an effective, easy and sustainable
alternative to evaporation or dilution cooling with the rare and
super-expensive He. Paramagnetic salts, traditionally used for mK-ADR,
suffer from chemical instability related to water of crystallization. We report
synthesis, characterization as well as low-temperature magnetization and
specific heat measurements of two new UHV compatible candidate materials
NaYbPO and KYbPO. Utilizing the PPMS at 2 K, the ADR of
sintered pellets with Ag powder admixture starting at 5 T yields base
temperatures (warm-up times) of 45 mK (55 min) and 37 mK (35 min) for
NaYbPO and KYbPO, respectively, slightly advantageous to
KBaYb(BO) (45 mK and 40 min) studied under similar conditions.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
Status of sea cucumber resources and impact of fishing ban on the livelihood of fishers in Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay
The sea cucumbers constitute an important part
of non-fish income source for thousands of fishers
along Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay of south east
coast of India. The fishery which is more than
thousand years old was introduced by the Chinese
stationed at Ramanathapuram, for preparing a dried
sea cucumber product Beche-de-mer. The sea
cucumber fishery in Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay
was artisanal in nature and consisted of fishermen
who were good divers, the processors who acted as
middlemen and the exporters. The sea cucumbers
were chiefly collected by skin diving to a depth of
1.5 to 6.0 m in the shallow seas using nonmechanised
country crafts. They were also caught
as by-catch in trawlers locally known as Thallu madi
(an indigenous modified trawler operating on wind
power in shallow waters), besides the Chanku madi
and Attai madi which were operated in deeper
coastal waters
