Structural and magnetic properties of Mn3-xCdxTeO6 (x = 0, 1, 1.5 and 2)
Mn3TeO6 exhibits a corundum-related A3TeO6 structure and a complex magnetic
structure involving two magnetic orbits for the Mn atoms [*]. Mn3-xCdxTeO6
(x=0, 1, 1.5 and 2) ceramics were synthesized by solid state reaction and
investigated using X-ray powder diffraction, electron microscopy, calorimetric
and magnetic measurements. Cd2+ replaces Mn2+ cations without greatly affecting
the structure of the compound. The Mn and Cd cations were found to be randomly
distributed over the A-site. Magnetization measurements indicated that the
samples order antiferromagnetically at low temperature with a transition
temperature that decreases with increasing Cd doping. The nuclear and magnetic
structure of one specially prepared 114Cd containing sample:
Mn1.5(114Cd)1.5TeO6, was studied using neutron powder diffraction over the
temperature range 2 to 295 K. Mn1.5(114Cd)1.5TeO6 was found to order in an
incommensurate helical magnetic structure, very similar to that of Mn3TeO6 [*].
However, with a lower transition temperature and the extension of the ordered
structure confined to order 240(10) {\AA}. [*] S. A. Ivanov et al. Mater. Res.

Spin polarons in triangular antiferromagnets
The motion of a single hole in a 2D triangular antiferromagnet is
investigated using the t-J model. The one-hole states are described by strings
of spin deviations around the hole. Using projection technique the one-hole
spectral function is calculated. For large J/t we find low-lying
quasiparticle-like bands which are well separated from an incoherent background
by a gap of order J. However, for small J/t this gap vanishes and the spectrum
becomes broad over an energy range of several t. The results are compared with
SCBA calculations and numerical data.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figs, to be publish in PR
Effects of site dilution on the magnetic properties of geometrically frustrated antiferromagnets
The effect of site dilution by non magnetic impurities on the susceptibility
of geometrically frustrated antiferromagnets (kagome and pyrochlore lattices)
is discussed in the framework of the Generalized Constant Coupling model, for
both classical and quantum Heisenberg spins. For the classical diluted
pyrochlore lattice, excellent agreement is found when compared with Monte Carlo
data. Results for the quantum case are also presented and discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Tricritical behavior of the frustrated XY antiferromagnet
Extensive histogram Monte-Carlo simulations of the XY antiferromagnet on a
stacked triangular lattice reveal exponent estimates which strongly favor a
scenario of mean-field tricritical behavior for the spin-order transition. The
corresponding chiral-order transition occurs at the same temperature but
appears to be decoupled from the spin-order. These results are relevant to a
wide class of frustrated systems with planar-type order and serve to resolve a
long-standing controversy regarding their criticality.Comment: J1K 2R1 4 pages (RevTex 3.0), 4 figures available upon request,

Roadmap on Li-ion battery manufacturing research
Growth in the Li-ion battery market continues to accelerate, driven primarily by the increasing need for economic energy storage for electric vehicles. Electrode manufacture by slurry casting is the first main step in cell production but much of the manufacturing optimisation is based on trial and error, know-how and individual expertise. Advancing manufacturing science that underpins Li-ion battery electrode production is critical to adding to the electrode manufacturing value chain. Overcoming the current barriers in electrode manufacturing requires advances in materials, manufacturing technology, in-line process metrology and data analytics, and can enable improvements in cell performance, quality, safety and process sustainability. In this roadmap we explore the research opportunities to improve each stage of the electrode manufacturing process, from materials synthesis through to electrode calendering. We highlight the role of new process technology, such as dry processing, and advanced electrode design supported through electrode level, physics-based modelling. Progress in data driven models of electrode manufacturing processes is also considered. We conclude there is a growing need for innovations in process metrology to aid fundamental understanding and to enable feedback control, an opportunity for electrode design to reduce trial and error, and an urgent imperative to improve the sustainability of manufacture
Search for CP violation in D0 and D+ decays
A high statistics sample of photoproduced charm particles from the FOCUS
(E831) experiment at Fermilab has been used to search for CP violation in the
Cabibbo suppressed decay modes D+ to K-K+pi+, D0 to K-K+ and D0 to pi-pi+. We
have measured the following CP asymmetry parameters: A_CP(K-K+pi+) = +0.006 +/-
0.011 +/- 0.005, A_CP(K-K+) = -0.001 +/- 0.022 +/- 0.015 and A_CP(pi-pi+) =
+0.048 +/- 0.039 +/- 0.025 where the first error is statistical and the second
error is systematic. These asymmetries are consistent with zero with smaller
errors than previous measurements.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure
A measurement of lifetime differences in the neutral D-meson system
Using a high statistics sample of photoproduced charm particles from the
FOCUS experiment at Fermilab, we compare the lifetimes of neutral D mesons
decaying via D0 to K- pi+ and K- K+ to measure the lifetime differences between
CP even and CP odd final states. These measurements bear on the phenomenology
of D0 - D0bar mixing. If the D0 to K-pi+ is an equal mixture of CP even and CP
odd eigenstates, we measure yCP = 0.0342 \pm 0.0139 \pm 0.0074.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure
Measurements of the Sigma_c^0 and Sigma_c^{++} Mass Splittings
Using a high statistics sample of photoproduced charmed particles from the
FOCUS experiment at Fermilab (FNAL-E831), we measure the mass splittings of the
charmed baryons Sigma_c^0 and Sigma_c^{++}. We find M(Sigma_c^0 - Lambda_c^+) =
167.38 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.13 MeV/c^2 and M(Sigma_c^++ - Lambda_c^+) = 167.35 +/-
0.19 +/- 0.12 MeV/c^2 with samples of 362 +/- 36 and 461 +/- 39 events,
respectively. We measure the isospin mass splitting M(Sigma_c^++ - Sigma_c^0)
to be -0.03 +/- 0.28 +/- 0.11 Mev/c^2. The first errors are statistical and the
second are systematic.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
