Montgomery High School Baseball Clubhouse Expansion

    Get PDF
After graduating from Montgomery High School (MOH) in 2013, I knew that I wanted to give back when the opportunity was given. More specifically, I hoped to help the baseball team. Throughout my years playing baseball at MOH, the coaches and players constantly expressed interest in expanding the clubhouse as it was deemed too small and uncomfortable. After the first meeting with the owner, Coach Hermosillo, a budget was established and preliminary design ideas were brought up. It was important for him to implement the feedback given from the current players. After several meetings and different iterations of the expanded clubhouse, a design that pleased the owner was agreed upon and within the budget. Through this project based senior project, significant preconstruction services were provided which include: architectural drawings, estimates and schedule

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of two teaching approaches in spelling. The first teaching method was guided by the spelling textbook and the second was a teacher directed approach. In this study, the students were divided into two equal ability groups and were instructed using the assigned teaching approach. The 26 subjects used in this study were heterogeneously grouped and attended an urban school in the city of Rochester. The study began with the administration of a seventy five word pretest to determine the group compositions and the forty most frequently misspelled words. After calculating the results of the teacher made instrument, the subjects were divided into two equal ability groups. Each group received twelve weeks of instruction based on the assigned teaching modality. Weekly tests scores, pre and posttest scores, and the sum of the weekly tests scores were all studied to determine which teaching method produce significant performance results. The results were determined with the use of a two-tailed 1 test. The statistical results indicated that there was a significant difference between the teacher directed approach and the textbook approach when comparing the sum of the weekly test scores. The results also indicated that no significant difference existed between the two teaching method when long tern1 retention was compared. Therefore, it was concluded that the teacher directed approach did produce better results than that of a textbook

Research on school climate has among its purposes to contribute to improving the quality of education, one of the main challenges of the Mexican educational system, particularly at the level of basic education. Our aim was to explore the relationships between the dimensions of school climate of perceived social the support teacher-student, support student-student and opportunities for autonomy and academic performance. The study was non-experimental and correlational. The sample consisted of 325 students from a middle school in northeastern Mexico, with a mean age of 13.4 years who responded to a scale of perceived school climate. The results show that students perceive great teacher support associated with student-student support and opportunities for autonomy. In addition, we found that academic achievement related to teacher support and opportunities for autonomy. These data are consistent with the country´s educational policy, which emphasizes the teacher´s role as facilitator of student learning to improve learning outcomes and the quality of education.Fil: Rodriguez, María Concepción. Get PDF
The present work offers a characterization of the development of mathematics education, based on scientometric indicators. The study analyzes 5633 documents registered in the Scopus database which are all related to research in mathematics education. The main results show an exponential increase on the scientific productivity, a tendency to increase collaborative work over individual work, a greater impact per index of the cited references during the last two decades, a high level of international collaboration, a certain concentration of the publications on a reduced group of investigators in some international impact journals, and the existence of 17 invisible colleagues that represent scientific communities with common research interests

Excessive intakeof saturated fats and simple sugars is associated with learning and memory impairment. This type of diet can produce different physiological changes, such as low-grade systemic inflammation and oxidative stress. The high production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species canenter the central nervous system and affect neural homeostasis. In this context, acetylcholine, the main parasympathetic neurotransmitter and inflammation regulatorcould be affected.Acetylcholine concentrations in organs and tissues dependson itshydrolysis through the activities of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase (AChE and BChE, respectively). Changes in the diet increase their cholinesterases activity by hydrolyzing ACh, contributing to the inflammation process and affecting the synapse, which favors cognitive impairment. The use of vitamins as adjuvants to treat inflammatory diseases is frequent nowadays. Nicotinamide (NAM) is a vitamin that exerts antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In this study we evaluated cholinergic activity associated with the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect of NAMin a model of diet-inducedcognitive deficit. Thirty male Sprague Dawley rats were distributed in 5 groups and subjected to the following treatments:1) CON (Control); 2) Hypercaloric diet (HC,18% fat and 40% sucrose); 3) HC-NAM 5 mM; 4) HC-NAM 10 mM; 5) HC-NAM 15 mM for 13 weeks with ad libitumfood and water. AChE andBuChE activities, GSH concentrations, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and pro-inflammatory cytokines were evaluated; as well as memory and spatial learning. The results showed that the hypercaloric diet increasedplasma triacylglycerols, interleukin (IL) -6, TBARS and decreased IL-10 levels, it alsoincreasedliver and hippocampal TBARS levels, and decreased GSH concentrations. In addition, a significant increase in AChE and BuChE activities in serum and hippocampuswas observed, showing a positive correlation with cognitive impairment. The present study showed that the administration of NAM decreases systemic inflammation, regulates the increase in cholinesterase activity in both serum and hippocampus, through increasedconcentrations of IL-10, GSH and decreasedTBARSlevelsat serum, liver and hippocampus preventing cognitive deterioration caused by a hypercaloric diet.

    Get PDF
The endophytic bacterium Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus SRT4 secretes a constitutively expressed levansucrase (LsdA; EC 2.4.1.10), which converts sucrose to fructo-oligosaccharides and levan. Fully active LsdA was purified to high homogeneity by non-denaturing reversed-phase HPLC and was crystallized at room temperature by the hanging-drop vapour-diffusion method using ammonium sulfate and ethanol as precipitants. The crystals are extremely sensitive, but native data have been collected to 2.5 A under cryogenic conditions using synchrotron radiation. LsdA crystals belong to the orthorhombic space group P22(1)2(1) or P2(1)2(1)2, with unit-cell parameters a = 53.80, b = 119.39, c = 215.10 A
