    THE COMPARISON STUDY ON TWO-TYPES OF STUDENTS` PERSONALITY: SANGUINE AND PHLEGMATIC TOWARD THEIR ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITY

    The study is an attempt to find out the difference between Sanguine and Phlegmatic personality toward their speaking ability. The design in this study was comparative analysis design. The samples of this study were 44 students from Faculty of Law. Personality test was carried out to decide whether the students were categorized to the group of Sanguine or Phlegmatic. Furthermore, the researcher used personal description for monologue speaking technique for testing the students speaking skills. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula to investigate whether there was significant difference result between the Sanguine and the Phlegmatic students in their speaking skill. From the result of the study, it could be concluded that there was no significant different result between the Sanguine and the Phlegmatic students toward their speaking skill. It means, there were not any better students in speaking between both Sanguine and Phlegmatic students. Those two personalities, the Sanguine and the Phlegmatic students could perform better English speaking skill through their own personal way.Keywords:  Comparison Study, Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Speaking Abilit

    THE EFFECT OF TIME CONSTRAINT ON STUDENT READING COMPREHENSION TEST PERFORMANCE IN NARRATIVE TEXT

    The objective of this study was to know whether there is any effect between the time constraints of students when doing exams using (extended time) with students who take exams using (non-extended time). The sample used in this study amounted to 60 grade 11 students in SMA 03 Kaur. The method used in this research was the quantitative method and uses ex post facto design. In collecting data the author gives multiple-choice exam questions consisting of 50 questions, these are questions in the form of narrative texts. In analyzing the data, the authors used the Mann Whitney U-Test in SPSS 16.0. The results of this study indicate that the influence of time constraints on student examinations using extended time.

    Learning English Grammar through Jazz Chants viewed from students’ attitude in SD IT Hidayatullah, Kota Bengkulu

    Grammar teaching has always been a controversial issue of language teaching, since the teaching technique seems tense and boring. Here the researcher’s focus is a way to learn grammar through rhymes and chants to young learners. The researcher presents a technique through Jazz Chants that involving the learners to identify and understand the grammatical point in content. Jazz Chants is a rhyme and repetition in a situational context based on everyday life situation. Each of the chant is accompanied by the target structure that indicates the specific focus of the material. The study is aimed at comparing the students’ grammar aspect through Jazz Chants and understanding the attitude of the students in teaching English grammar through Jazz Chants. The sample is the students of the sixth grade consisted of 50 students in SD IT Hidayatullah, Kota Bengkulu. The design of the study was mixed method design. The quantitative data were carried out from grammar test and the students’ attitude toward teaching English grammar. The qualitative data came from a learning log, an interview, and teacher’s journal. A pre-test and post-test design, 8 lesson plan, and an attitude questionnaire were applied in the study. Percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test were used to analyze the data quantitatively. The study findings were as follow: 1. The students’ English grammar ability after using Jazz chants were significantly higher than before their use. 2.     3 Steps Writing Strategy: Imitating-Reworking-Developing to Attract Interest in Writing Descriptive Writing in Improving Students Writing Ability

    This study aims to find out whether 3-step-writing strategy could have a significant impact on the students 'writing results in descriptive writing and also to find out whether there is an impact of the interaction between 3-step-writing strategy on students' writing interest. The population in this study were Law Faculty students in the 2017-2018 academic year with a total of 25 students. In this study, sampling using purposive techniques that took two classes as samples and divided into two groups, namely: Experimental Group and Control Group. The Experimental Group learned to Write Descriptive by using 3-step-writing strategy. Data was collected by conducting tests (pre and post-tests) and questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed using the T Test and Two-Way Anova Test with the help of the SPSS 22 Program. It showed significant different on students` English Writing achievement from pre-test to post-test and also from experimental and control group. Students also showed great interest on English Writing of Descriptive text by applying 3-step-writing strategy. It means that 3-step-writing strategy could improve students` English writing skill and could also  empower students to learn more

    Students’ Perception on Online English Learning during Covid-19 Pandemic Era

    The Covid-19 pandemic has caused schools and universities to close so that online learning is one of the solutions to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. This study aims to describe students' perceptions of learning English online during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The subjects analyzed consisted of two different department groups at University of Prof. Dr. Hazairin, S.H in the 2019/2020 academic year. The number of respondents was 66 participants. The data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire distributed in the form of a Google form regarding student perceptions of the application of online English learning. The results of this study indicate that most students are interested in online learning. Online learning is considered to be more fun and flexible. In terms of the platform that is the medium for implementing online learning itself, the WhatsApp application is considered the best or dominant application and is very helpful for online learning during the pandemic. Therefore, this data proves that the research respondents had positive perceptions of online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.Pandemi Covid-19 telah menyebabkan sekolah dan universitas tutup sehingga dilakukan pembelajaran dalam jaringan (daring) menjadi salah satu solusi untuk mencegah penyebaran virus Covid-19. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan persepsi mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara daring pada masa pandemi Covid-19. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek yang dianalisis terdiri dari dua kelompok jurusan yang berbeda di Universitas Prof. Dr. Hazairin, SH pada tahun akademik 2019/2020. Jumlah responden sebanyak 66 partisipan. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan angket yang didistribusikan dalam bentuk formulir Google tentang persepsi mahasiswa terhadap penerapan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara daring. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa tertarik dengan pembelajaran daring. Pembelajaran daring dianggap lebih menyenangkan dan fleksibel. Dalam hal platform yang menjadi media terlaksananya pembelajaran daring itu sendiri, aplikasi WhatsApp dianggap aplikasi yang terbaik atau dominan dan sangat membantu pembelajaran daring pada masa pandemi. Oleh karena itu, data ini membuktikan bahwa responden penelitian telah memiliki persepsi positif terhadap pembelajaran daring di masa pandemic Covid-19

    An Analysis of Textbook for Banking Department Students Entitled English for Banking and Finance by Rosemary Richey

    The objective of this study was to identify whether the textbook entitled English for Banking and Finance by Rosemary Richey meet the fourth semester students of Islamic Banking Department in IAIN Bengkulu’s needs. Content analysis technique was employed in this study. The data was gathered by analyzing the textbook using the checklist containing the constructed criteria of textbook evaluation. In the data analysis technique, the percentage of criteria fulfillment was calculated by dividing the total of criteria points which were met in a textbook for each aspect with the total of criteria points in each aspect. It was then multiplied by 100%. The result showed that English for Specific Purpose (ESP) Textbook entitled English for Banking and Finance for fourth semester students of Islamic Banking Program has fulfilled the criteria of material completeness, Content Coverage, Presentation, Learner’s Factor, and Design determined by constructed criteria from the theory of some experts by achieving average score 87%. Of the five proposed criteria, the four criteria could be classified “good” namely material completeness 89%, presentation 80%, learner’s factor 100%, and design 89%. Another aspect, namely content coverage was “fair” by achieving 78%

    Safe and effective paediatric formulations of the most promising antiretroviral drugs are crucial to advance the treatment and prevention of HIV in neonates, infants, children, and adolescents. The WHO Paediatric Drug Optimization for HIV (PADO-HIV) group brings together stakeholders and experts every 2-3 years to identify priority products and define research gaps in the development of new HIV drugs and formulations for children in low-income and middle-income countries. PADO-HIV 5 met from Sept 27 to Oct 15, 2021. The group evaluated HIV agents from known and novel drug classes, oral and parenteral long-acting formulations, and developments in broadly neutralising antibodies, and included focused sessions on neonates and new delivery technologies. A list of medium-term and long-term priorities was generated, and research questions were defined. This forward-looking analysis is intended to provide guidance to funders, drug developers, and researchers, and to accelerate access for children to the best HIV drugs and formulations
