The present study was conducted to appraise the anticancer activity of Pinus roxburghii essential oil along with chemical composition evaluation. MTT assay revealed cytotoxicity induction in colon, leukemia, multiple myeloma, pancreatic, head and neck and lung cancer cells exposed to essential oil. Cancer cell death was also observed through live/dead cell viability assay and FACS analysis. Apoptosis induced by essential oil was confirmed by cleavage of PARP and caspase-3 that suppressed the colony-forming ability of tumor cells and 50 % inhibition occurred at a dose of 25 ÎĽg/mL. Moreover, essential oil inhibited the activation of inflammatory transcription factor NF-ÎşB and inhibited expression of NF-ÎşB regulated gene products linked to cell survival (survivin, c-FLIP, Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, c-Myc, c-IAP2), proliferation (Cyclin D1) and metastasis (MMP-9). P. roxburghii essential oil has considerable anticancer activity and could be used as anticancer agent, which needs further investigation to identify and purify the bioactive compounds followed by in vivo studies

textabstractBackground: There is a need to build the evidence base of early interventions promoting children's health and development in the UK. Malachi Specialist Family Support Services ('Malachi') is a voluntary sector organisation based in the UK that delivers a therapeutic parenting group programme called Inspiring Futures to parents of children identified as having behavioural and emotional difficulties. The programme comprises two parts, delivered sequentially: (1) a group-based programme for all parents for 10-12 weeks, and (2) one-to-one sessions with selected parents from the group-based element for up to 12 weeks. Methods/design: A randomised controlled trial will be conducted to evaluate Malachi's Inspiring Futures parenting programme. Participants will be allocated to one of two possible arms, with follow-up measures at 16 weeks (post-parent group programme) and at 32 weeks (post-one-to-one sessions with selected parents). The sample size is 248 participants with a randomisation allocation ratio of 1:1. The intervention arm will be offered the Inspiring Futures programme. The control group will receive services as usual. The aim is to determine the effectiveness of the Inspiring Futures programme on the primary outcome of behavioural and emotional difficulties of primary school children identified as having behavioural or emotional difficulties. Discussion: This study will further enhance the evidence for early intervention parenting programmes for child behavioural and emotional problems in the UK

The current UK policy emphasises the role of schools for mental health promotion and prevention, but little data exist on what aspects of schools explain pupils’ mental health. We explored school-level influences on the mental health of young people in a large school-based sample from the UK. Methods: We analysed baseline data from a large cluster randomized controlled trial (ISRCTN 86619085) collected between 2016‒2018 from mainstream UK secondary schools selected to be representative in relation to their quality rating, size, deprivation, mixed or single-sex pupil population and country. Participants were pupils in their first or second year of secondary school. We assessed whether school-level factors were associated with pupil mental health. Results: 26,885 pupils (response rate=90%), aged 11‒14 years, 55% female, attending 85 UK schools, were included. Schools accounted for 2.4% (95% CI=2.0‒2.8; p<0.0001) of the variation in psychopathology, 1.6% (95% CI=1.2‒2.1; p<0.0001) of depression and 1.4% (95% CI=1.0‒1.7; p<0.0001) of well-being. Schools in urban locations, with a higher percentage of free school meals and of White British, were associated with poorer pupil mental health. A more positive school climate was associated with better mental health. Conclusion: School-level variables, primarily related to contextual factors, characteristics of their pupil population, and school climate explain a small but significant amount of variability in young people’s mental health. This might be used to identify schools that are in need of more resources to support young people’s mental health.Wellcome TrustNational Institute for Health Research (NIHR)Medical Research Council (MRC

Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is a type of B-cell lymphoma that is commonly observed in the gastrointestinal site, most frequently occurring in the stomach. However, the incidence of this type of lymphoma in the respiratory tract is very uncommon. We report a case of this rare clinical entity in a patient who presented with non-symptomatology and was diagnosed with pulmonary MALT lymphoma (pMALToma)

Barriers posed by the COVID-19 pandemic have led to reduced access to Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care, leaving untreated patients at risk for various superimposed infections and malignancies such as Kaposi sarcoma (KS). We recently encountered a 37-year-old African-American male with a past medical history of HIV who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and was diagnosed with AIDS-related disseminated KS, representing the first reported case of COVID-19 infection with a newly diagnosed concomitant KS. The patient experienced multi-organ failure requiring tracheostomy, renal replacement therapy, and a prolonged intensive care unit (ICU) stay. Goals of care were changed to comfort measures and the patient passed away shortly afterwards. He was made comfort measures and passed away shortly afterwards. AIDS-related KS is a vascular tumor seen in association wit
