    Cerebellar mutism is a rare occurrence following paediatric trauma. Although it is quite common after posterior fossa surgery in children, this phenomenon has rarely been reported following other insults, such as trauma, and its pathophysiology remains poorly understood. We report a seven-year-old child who presented to the casualty department of Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat, Oman, in May 2013 with a traumatic right cerebellar contusion. The child presented with clinical features of cerebellar mutism but underwent a rapid and spontaneous recovery. The possible mechanism of this occurrence is discussed

    Abstract:The post partum haemorrhage (PPH) Project of Sudan should consider facilitation of implementation of a more comprehensive and innovative program to address prevention, identification and management of PPH with the goal of improving the quality of care and health outcomes related to PPH.The Master Trainer Course was held at the University of Gezira (U of G) followed by Champion courses and Clinical Mentor orientation sessions in 5 hospitals (4 rural and 1 urban). There are additional 5 hospitals in Gezira state where providers have yet to receive the Champions course. The additional courses are planned in March and April of 2016. 23 Master Trainers were mentored in help mother survive (HMS). The PPH Project Director based at UofG and additional 2 more trainers were introduced to the principles of HMS training and the low dose high frequency (LDHF) approach was adopted. 155 providers participated in a bleeding after birth (BAB) Champions Course. 106 of the participants were village midwives who received selected updates around child birth to address gaps identified during the opening role play. Updates included being patient during second stage of labour, no pulling of fetus, delivering babies to mothers, abdomen/skin to skin, drying the baby immediately, changing the wet cloth and covering the baby with dry cloth while on mothers’ abdomen, not to hold babies upside down, not to separate babies from mothers after cutting the cord. No cord milking, evacuation of birth canal in the name of “cleaning” it, no routine episiotomy or pulling the placenta without counter pressure and few others.34 providers from 5 hospitals (4 rural and 1 urban) were oriented as clinical mentors.     High capacity and miniaturized flexible chipless RFID tag using modified complementary split ring resonator

    This paper aims to produce a high data capacity and miniaturized flexible chipless RFID tag based on the frequency signature using the Modified Complementary Split Ring Resonator (MCSRR). The proposed 19 bits chipless RFID tag using the frequency shifting technique consists of five slotted overlaying MCSRR with Different Width (MCSRR with DW) structures and the dimension of 48 mm x 48 mm. The structure is designed by using a flexible (Polyethylene Terephthalate ) PET substrate with permittivity of 0.2. The operating frequency is between 0.9 GHz and 2.7 GHz. The advancement of slotted overlaying MCSRR with DW structures has successfully miniaturized the chipless RFID tag structure to about 107 mm2/ bit, 0.02/2 mid =bit and 0.09 GHz/bit by maximizing the number of resonators in a limited space and minimizing the frequency separation between the resonators. The omnidirectional tag antenna is incorporated with the proposed MCSRR structure using the retransmission measurement method. The log-periodic antenna with a gain of 5-7 dBi is used for this measurement to improve the range distance between tag and reader system. Based on the retransmission measurement involving the antenna tag, the 19 bits chipless RFID tag which consists of five MCSRR with DW structures can be detected with a maximum range distance of 30 cm and a power transmitted level of 30 dBm

    Principal Component Analysis Of Factors Determining Phosphate Rock Dissolution On Acid Soils

    Many of the agricultural soils in Indonesia are acidic and low in both total and available phosphorus which severely limits their potential for crops production. These problems can be corrected by application of chemical fertilizers. However, these fertilizers are expensive, and cheaper alternatives such as phosphate rock (PR) have been considered. Several soil factors may influence the dissolution of PR in soils, including both chemical and physical properties. The study aimed to identify PR dissolution factors and evaluate their relative magnitude. The experiment was conducted in Soil Chemical Laboratory, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Indonesian Center for Agricultural Land Resources Research and Development from January to April 2002. The principal component analysis (PCA) was used to characterize acid soils in an incubation system into a number of factors that may affect PR dissolution. Three major factors selected were soil texture, soil acidity, and fertilization. Using the scores of individual factors as independent variables, stepwise regression analysis was performed to derive a PR dissolution function. The factors influencing PR dissolution in order of importance were soil texture, soil acidity, then fertilization. Soil texture factors including clay content and organic C, and soil acidity factor such as P retention capacity interacted positively with P dissolution and promoted PR dissolution effectively. Soil texture factors, such as sand and silt content, soil acidity factors such as pH, and exchangeable Ca decreased PR dissolution

    Low loss waveguide-based Butler matrix with iris coupling control method for millimeterwave applications

    This paper proposes a low loss 4×4 Butler matrix based on rectangular waveguide cavity resonators technology for millimeterwave beamforming network using iris coupling method. This method has the advantage of controlling the electrical fields and the coupling factor inside a complex medium such as waveguide cavity resonators. The coupling factor of 6 dB for 4×4 Butler matrix is achieved by tuning the iris coupling k-value between the waveguide cavity resonators. Thus, avoiding a higher phase difference losses and component losses at upper millimeterwave bands. To validate the proposed method, CST software simulations are performed under several iris coupling k-values to achieve a 6 dB coupling factor. Then, the proposed 4×4 Butler matrix is 3D metal printed using selective laser melting (SLM) technique. The measured reflection and isolation coefficients are observed below −10 dB, with coupling coefficients ranging between −6 and −7 dB. The phase differences of −42.02°, 42.02°, −130.95°, and 133.3° are achieved at the outputs. It confirmed that using this proposed method has the superiority over the conventional microstrip and waveguide coupling methods by a 1 dB coupling factor loss and a 3° phase difference error

    Human gait recognition: viewing angle effect on normal walking pattern

    Gait recognition has recently gained interest of researchers as it performs identification of subjects at a distance from the camera. However, due to the changes in the viewing angles, it gets cumbersome for a system to perform recognition based on the walking pattern of an individual. In this work, the aim is to propose a simple baseline method for the purpose of human recognition based on the shape of its body and walking pattern when the subject is observed from different viewing angles. The recognition is also tested on the subjects in a scenario where the individual subjects are registered while walking in normal walking pattern followed by the testing in normal walking mode, apart from being observed at different viewing angles. Gait periodicity is estimated after extracting the silhouettes of an individual, followed by obtaining the total silhouette representation of an individual using Matlab. The total silhouette representations obtained from the probe gait data are compared to the gallery gait data representations for the purpose of similarity computation by calculating the RMS value between the said representations. Higher the value, lesser is the similarity & vice versa

    Comparison between oxytocin, ergometrine and misoprostol in active management of the third stage of labour: a randomized controlled trial

    Background: The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of sublingual misoprostol, intravenous infusion of oxytocin, and intravenous infusion of Ergometrine in reducing blood loss during the third stage of labor.Methods: This is a no-random trial study conducted in in Ribat University Hospital, Khartoum among 150 laboring ladies with a healthy singleton pregnancy. After obtaining their written informed consent to participate in the study, they were randomly assigned to one of three possible treatment groups: 400 μg of sublingual misoprostol; 10 IU of intravenous infusion oxytocin; and 0.5 mg of intravenous infusion of Ergometrine. Blood loss was estimated by weighing the collected blood and converting the weight to milliliters.Results: The shortest mean duration of the third stage of labor was seen in patients who received misoprostol (3.89±0.37 min), followed by oxytocin (4.6±0.9 min), and Ergometrine (5.45±0.9 min). The lowest mean blood loss was seen in the patients who received 400 µg misoprostol (168.36±24.83 ml), followed by those who received 10 IU oxytocin (205.56±34.82 ml), and 0.5 mg Ergometrine (214.49±35.97 ml).Conclusions: Present study showed that 400 µg sublingual misoprostol was more effective than the conventional parenteral uterotonics in reducing the amount of the blood loss during the third stage of labor and has comparable effect to that of 10 IU intravenous oxytocin in shortening the duration of third stage of labor. It also showed that the use of misoprostol reduces the need for extra-uterotonics and blood transfusion

    Characteristics of Phosphate Rock Materials From China, Indonesia and Tunisia and Their Dissolution in Indonesian Acid Soils

    Dissolution of phosphate rock (PR) in soils is a primary concern for P in the PR to be available for plant. The dissolution of three PR materials, China (CPR), Ciamis (IPR) and Gafsa (GPR), in eight acid Indonesian soils (pH in water 4.1-5.7) was tested in a closed incubation system. Experiment was conducted in Soil Chemical Laboratory, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Indonesian Center for Agricultural Land Resources Research and Development from January to April 2002. The dissolution was determined from the increase in either 0.5 M NaOH extractable P (∆P) or 1 M BaCl2-triethanolamine (TEA)-extractable Ca (∆Ca) in soils amended with PR compared with control soil. Dissolution of the IPR was the highest (30-100%) followed by GPR (17-69%) and then by CPR (20-54%). The maximum dissolution followed the order: Bogor Ultisols > Bogor Oxisols > Subang Inceptisols > Bogor Inceptisols > Sukabumi Oxisols > Lebak Ultisols > Sukabumi Inceptisols > Lampung Ultisols. PR dissolution indicated a positive correlation with P retention capacity. The results implied that the extent of PR dissolution for the three PR sources (China, Indonesia and Tunisia) increased with increasing P retention capacity of the soils. PR dissolution can be based on a calibration curve of ∆Ca meaning that if ∆P is high then the amount of PR dissolution measured by ∆Ca in PR materials is also high
