In the plantation, irrigation is one of crucial management that need careful consideration and observation. As the gun sprinkler is still new and not widely used in oil palm plantation sector, the problem has inspired researcher to study on oil palm production response to gun sprinkler usage and economy feasibility of gun sprinkler to oil palm plantation in the term of production of yield, average bunch per weight and number of harvested bunches. This study is conducted at Ladang Risda Bukit Kota, Perak. Thus, the data obtained for this study is the data that was provided by the oil palm plantation. The result obtained from this study shown that in the term of productivity, there is no significant difference between gun sprinkler plot and non gun sprinkler plot. However, in the term of cost based on Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) analysis showed that gun sprinkler’s costs outweigh the benefits. It is due to several limitation that occurs during the study was conducted. In conclusion, gun sprinkler usage in oil palm plantation should not be considered. For the recommendation, the oil palm plantation company should used drip irrigation for their irrigation system as it shown by other researchers’ study that drip irrigation is more relevant than other irrigation system

Enterprise risk management (ERM) concept received much attention from businesses and industries in Malaysia, in practice Bursa Malaysia introduced new guideline on voluntary risk disclosure practice in annual report which also known as 2013 Bursa Malaysia Guideline (effective on 1 January 2013). However, overall development and practical application of 2013 Bursa Malaysia guideline has been rather limited studies especially in banking area. Apparently, scholarly research activities in this particular area of interest are totally lacking hence lead to the essential need of this empirical study. In line with that statement, this paper aims to investigate the significant mean difference of ERM adoption among Malaysian Banking Institutions before and after a new guideline is in effect were based on voluntary disclosure practices in the annual report using common terms as a proxy for ERM adoption, and also investigate its effect onto banking performance. Content analysis was performed on the annual reports of 102 banking institutions; in addition return on Assets (ROA), return on Equity (ROE) and Non-Performing Loan (NPL) were used to determine the effect of ERM adoption towards banking performance. All in all, the findings show that the overall level of ERM disclosures among Malaysian banking institutions have improved significantly after and before the cut-off date the 2013 Bursa Malaysia Guideline is in effect. In conjunction, the findings also reveal that ERM disclosure is positively influenced the Return on Asset (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) in banking institutions whereas ERM disclosure do not influenced on Non-Performing Loan (NPL)

Diagnostic Risk Management System (DRMS): An Assessment of Financial Risk

    Get PDF
Risk management is critical for any organisation to manage risk appropriately, as an undesirable risk event can have a huge negative impact on finances. Poor risk management leads to uncertain business performance or in the worst-case scenario, the collapse of the business. Sound risk management requires that the elements of risk in the business are considered before a decision is made. It is also important to know how the risk can be mitigated if it occurs, who is responsible for managing the risk, whether the likelihood and severity of the risk should be reduced or the risk should be avoided and transferred to others. This can help organisations to carry out the necessary assessments and analysis to understand the extent of their risk exposure and then plan mitigation measures. This paper highlights the importance of the Diagnostic Risk Management System (DRMS) as a lifesaver for organisations. Scholars, experts and practitioners generally agreed that DRMS reflects a company's image and subsequently reduces opportunities for fraud. DRMS is a user-friendly system that helps companies manage and view overall risk and find appropriate solutions to mitigate individual risks. DRMS focuses on the overall risk, especially on the risk assessment of financial reporting. DRMS is suitable for companies to create a competitive but healthy business environment that is free from destructive elements such as corruption, fraud and white-collar crime. This in turn ensures the creation of wealth for the business environment in Malaysia

Preparation and characterization of polylactic acid based polyurethane for environmental friendly packaging materials

    Get PDF
Conventional packaging materials are mostly produced using petroleum-based substances and its’ non-biodegradability are causing landfill problems. Therefore, researches have been done to replace the non-degradable polymer substances to degradable polymers. Polylactic acid (PLA) is a type of biodegradable polymer which is brittle but has good mechanical strength, which makes it a suitable polymer to be used as packaging materials. To improve the flexibility of PLA, PLA based polyurethanes (PUs) are produced by using PLA-diol with vegetable oil polyol as the chain extender. Palm oil polyol (PO) is a type of vegetable oil polyol which are used in various productions of PUs. In this study, PO polyol is used as soft segment to improve the flexibility of PLA whereas hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) are used as a source of isocyanate. PLA/Palm oil polyol based polyurethanes (PLAPOPUs) are synthesized using one-shot and two steps polymerization method. Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) spectra confirmed on the formation of urethane bond and glass transition temperature was analyzed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The PLAPOPU prepared using HDI through one-step method has high potential to be used in environmental friendly packaging industries

This study aimed at exploring the impact of Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle (ELC) on Palestinian women educators and their teaching practices in Palestine during Covid-19. An explanatory mixed-method research approach was employed in the design of the study using a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The purpose was to explore and document the participants’ teaching strategies used to cope with online teaching and learning. The sample consisted of 53 Palestinian women educators teaching in the private and public sectors of schools and higher educational institutions. Snowballing sampling was chosen for the quantitative part of this study to ensure the reliability of the data. The main findings of the research demonstrated that many Palestinian women educators were unaware of Kolb’s ELC or its abstract concepts. That in turn reveals that lack of awareness is the main reason for the minimal impact of ELC on their online teaching practices.peer-reviewe
