HERÓI OU VILÃO? O PAPEL DO PROFESSOR DE EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA ESCOLAR FRENTE À INDÚSTRIA CULTURAL

One of the most evident aspects in the contemporary world is the central place occupied by the technological ways of production and reproduction of information. They take an always larger space in our lives, catalyzing our emotions and our attitudes facing the world and showing their gloomier side when collaborating with the maintenance of the status quo. We observed the influence of the Cultural Industry in several ambits, as well as in the school. Than we discussed the teacher's role taking the media in account: is he a hero or a villain? The discussion had as a starting point the fact that the teacher is inserted in that society, feeling and thinking according its concepts, often commercial, unjust and prejudicious. The study goes then, in the direction of a valorization of the teacher's education in humanities, starting from a reflection on himself and, so, transporting it into his pedagogic practice. Uno de los aspectos más evidentes en el mundo contemporáneo es el lugar central ocupado por las tecnologías de producción y reproducción de información. Ellas toman un siempre más grande espacio en nuestras vidas, catalizando nuestras emociones y nuestros posicionamientos frente al mundo y mostrando su lado más oscuro al colaborar con el mantenimiento del statu quo. Nosotros observamos la influencia de la Industria Cultural en varios ámbitos, así como en la escuela. Discutimos el papel del maestro, tomando los medios midiáticos de comunicación en la cuenta: ¿él es un héroe o un villano? La discusión tenía como un punto de arranque el hecho que el maestro se inserta en esa sociedad, sentindo y pensando de acordo con sus conceptos, a menudo comerciales, injustos y preconceptuosos. El estudio va entonces en la dirección de una valorización de la formación del maestro en las humanidades, empezando por una reflexión sobre él mismo, para entonces transportárla para su práctica pedagógica.  Um dos aspectos mais evidentes no mundo contemporâneo é o lugar central ocupado pelos meios tecnológicos de produção e reprodução de informações, que abrem um espaço cada vez maior em nossas vidas, catalisando as emoções e posicionamentos diante o mundo e mostrando seu lado mais sombrio ao colaborar com a manutenção do status quo. A discussão parte do fato de que o professor está inserido nessa sociedade, sentindo e pensando a partir de seus pressupostos, muitas vezes comerciais, injustos e preconceituosos. O estudo parte então, na direção de uma maior valorização da formação do professor dentro da área de ciências humanas, partindo de uma reflexão sobre si mesmo e desta forma transportando-a para sua prática pedagógica

Phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors lower both portal and pulmonary pressure in portopulmonary hypertension: a case report

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Portopulmonary hypertension (PPHTN) is a severe complication in liver cirrhosis. PDE5 inhibitors lower pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) in PPHTN. However, their effect on portal hypertension has not yet been investigated.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>A 55 year old male patient presented with PPHTN and alcoholic liver cirrhosis. 10 mg of Tadalafil, a PDE5 inhibitor with a long half-life, was administered orally under continuous monitoring of pulmonary and portal hemodynamics. For maintenance therapy the patient received Sildenafil 20 mg bid.</p> <p>Tadalafil lowered mean PAP from 45 to 39 mmHg within 60 minutes. Cardiac output (CO) increased from 6.8 to 7.9 l/min. Central venous pressure (CVP) remained stable at 3 mmHg. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure was lowered from 167/89 to 159/86 mmHg. Pulse rate increased from 75 to 87 per min. Wedged hepatic vein pressure (WHVP) decreased from 21 to 18 mm Hg, hepatovenous pressure gradient (HVPG) decreased from 10 to 7 mmHg. Hemodynamic monitoring after 6 months of Sildenafil therapy revealed a sustained lowering of mean PAP. HVPG remained constant at 10 mmHg. Cardiac and pulmonary performance had further improved.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>This case report shows for the first time, that phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors lower both portal and pulmonary pressure in portopulmonary hypertension.</p

Protein loop compaction and the origin of the effect of arginine and glutamic acid mixtures on solubility, stability and transient oligomerization of proteins

Addition of a 50 mM mixture of l-arginine and l-glutamic acid (RE) is extensively used to improve protein solubility and stability, although the origin of the effect is not well understood. We present Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) results showing that RE induces protein compaction by collapsing flexible loops on the protein core. This is suggested to be a general mechanism preventing aggregation and improving resistance to proteases and to originate from the polyelectrolyte nature of RE. Molecular polyelectrolyte mixtures are expected to display long range correlation effects according to dressed interaction site theory. We hypothesize that perturbation of the RE solution by dissolved proteins is proportional to the volume occupied by the protein. As a consequence, loop collapse, minimizing the effective protein volume, is favored in the presence of RE

Indirect DNA Readout by an H-NS Related Protein: Structure of the DNA Complex of the C-Terminal Domain of Ler

Ler, a member of the H-NS protein family, is the master regulator of the LEE pathogenicity island in virulent Escherichia coli strains. Here, we determined the structure of a complex between the DNA-binding domain of Ler (CT-Ler) and a 15-mer DNA duplex. CT-Ler recognizes a preexisting structural pattern in the DNA minor groove formed by two consecutive regions which are narrower and wider, respectively, compared with standard B-DNA. The compressed region, associated with an AT-tract, is sensed by the side chain of Arg90, whose mutation abolishes the capacity of Ler to bind DNA. The expanded groove allows the approach of the loop in which Arg90 is located. This is the first report of an experimental structure of a DNA complex that includes a protein belonging to the H-NS family. The indirect readout mechanism not only explains the capacity of H-NS and other H-NS family members to modulate the expression of a large number of genes but also the origin of the specificity displayed by Ler. Our results point to a general mechanism by which horizontally acquired genes may be specifically recognized by members of the H-NS family

Um dos aspectos mais evidentes no mundo contemporâneo é o lugar central ocupado pelos meios tecnológicos de produção e reprodução de informações, que abrem um espaço cada vez maior em nossas vidas. Observamos a influência da indústria cultural nos mais diversos âmbitos, inclusive na escola. Com base nessa observação, discutimos o papel do professor diante dos meios de comunicação de massa: herói ou vilão? A discussão tem como base o fato de que o professor está inserido nessa sociedade, sentindo e pensando segundo seus pressupostos, muitas vezes comerciais, injustos e preconceituosos. O estudo parte, então, na direção de uma maior valorização da formação do professor dentro da área de ciências humanas, partindo de uma reflexão sobre si e desta forma transportando-a para sua prática pedagógica

O PROFESSOR DE EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA E O STATUS SOCIAL: O CASO REGULAMENTAÇÃO DA PROFISSÃO

The present essay aims to analyze if there is a relationship between the arising of the physical education teacher’s social status and the process of regulation of his profession. Besides, this search tries to show which are the causes that lead the physical education community to create and to accept the system CONFEF/CREFs and how this process of professional regulation reaches the collective imaginary. After this analysis one could conclude that this organization arises because of the physical education teacher’s weakness in working with the civilization problems.El presente ensayo tiene como objetivo analizar si hay una relación entre la mejoría del status social del maestro de educación física y el proceso de reglamentación de su profesión. Además, intenta mostrar cuales son las causas que llevan la comunidad de educación física a crear y admitir el sistema CONFEF/CREFs, y cómo este proceso de regulación profesional alcanza el imaginario de la colectividad. Después de este análisis se puede concluir que este organismo surge debido a la debilidad que tiene el maestro de educación física al trabajar con los problemas provenientes de la civilización.O presente ensaio tem como objetivo analisar a existência de um possível ganho de status social do professor de Educação Física em relação com o processo de regulamentação. Além disso, o trabalho procura mostrar quais são as causas que levam a comunidade de Educação Física a criar e aceitar o sistema CONFEF/CREFs e como esse processo de regulamentação profissional atinge o imaginário coletivo. O presente trabalho busca analisar o uso do rótulo da ciência pela Indústria Cultural com a finalidade de lograr seus consumidores a fim de conformá-los e reificá-los perante a barbárie da sociedade em que vivemos, oferecendo a eles apenas uma semiformação.Para alcançar tal intento a investigação parte da análise de algumas reportagens de capa veiculadas pelas revistas Veja e Istoé no período de 2001 a 2004, que trazem como temática o corpo, através das discussões sobre beleza, saúde e sexo. With the purpose of achieving its consumers, conforms them with the barbarism of the current society, just offering them fake information.
