Constructive approximations to the q=1/2 maximum entropy distribution from redundant and noisy data
An approach adopted to consider the problem of constructing the q=1/2 maximum entropy distribution from redundant and noisy data was discussed. The advantage of this generalized approach, when dealing with very noisy data was illustrated by a numerical simulation. A strategy was proposed that evolved through different steps such as independent constraints were first preselected by recourse to a data independent technique. A backward approach was also proposed for reducing the parameters of such distributions. It was found that the sub-optimal strategies could be utilized in a broad range of situations
Relationship between rules and technical and tactical contents in minibasket
una programación basada en las reglasThe rules determine the development of the game in every sport because they
put a limit to what you can do and what not. The aims of the research were to
determine the order of importance of the basic basketball rules as well as the
technical and tactical contents deriving from these rules. The method used for
the data collection was that of the nominal group technique. The nominal group
consisted of seven experts who fulfilled the minimum conditions. Regarding the
first question, the order of importance of the rules was: steps, double dribble,
lines, fouls, referee, rules regarding time limits and score. With regard to the
technical and tactical contents deriving from the most important rules, for
example, through the steps’ rules, players can learn starts, stops, lay-up, etc.
These data allow organizing a program based on the rule
llevado a cabo diversas experiencias docentes
sobre la aplicación de herramientas Web
2.0 en asignaturas de distintas titulaciones
universitarias.SUMMARY -- The use and dissemination of Web 2.0
tools in professional and personal context
is becoming more popular every day. Its
application to teaching, as it is suggested by
some studies, may have numerous advantages.
However, the range of Web 2.0 tools is very
broad and it would therefore be useful to
have a methodology that guide the teacher
in choosing the most appropriate technology
to their teaching-learning process, taking into
account some final objectives, as well as
implementing and evaluating the achieved
results.
This paper presents a methodology to
assist teachers from any area of knowledge
in the selection of the Web 2.0 technology
that best suits a particular teaching-learning
process. This selection is based on some
educational and technical criteria. The
presented methodology is the result of an
educational innovation and improvement

Mixing and transport of water in a karst catchment: a case study from precipitation via seepage to the spring
One of the best-known and largest karst areas in Germany, the Blautopf Catchment, offers unique access to waters of the unsaturated zone through a large cave system. It was investigated with stable isotopes (18O/16O and D/H ratios expressed in permille = ‰) in precipitation, seepage- and groundwater as tracers for water flow, mixing, and storage. The precipitation showed a distinct seasonality with δ18O values between −2.9 and −24.6‰ during summer and winter, respectively. However, the isotope signals in seepage water in the caves as well as the discharge were almost completely buffered and ranged around an average δ18O value of −10‰. This value was also close to the long-term average value of local precipitation, −9.3‰. The homogeneous isotopic composition of the Blautopf Spring was unexpected, as its highly variable discharge (0.3 to 32 m3 s−1) is typical for a fast responsive karst system. These isotopic similarities could be explained by nearly complete mixing of the water already in the vadose zone. The data set therefore presents a case study to narrow down zones of mixing in karst catchments. It also confirms the minor role of the fast conduit system in the water balance of the Blautopf Catchment
Implementation of a moving finite element mesh within the catenary-pantograph dynamic interaction
This paper presents a technological application of a general methodology to analyze cable structures under moving loads, particularly on the catenary-pantograph dynamic interaction. This work firstly describes the modeling of a finite element moving mesh which integrally moves over the contact wire following the pantograph along the whole catenary, prior focusing on its comparison against the classical finite element mesh. The case study corresponds to the standard EN-50318 one, whose results fulfill the ranges proposed by this validation rule. The main advantage of the moving mesh method is presented in the falling of computational costs about 4 times lower than the classic model with similar precision.Peer Reviewe
Simulation of moving loads on structures using a moving finite element mesh
This paper presents a methodology to analyze the dynamic behavior of structures under moving loads. A finite element moving mesh algorithm has been developed in order to integrally move a part of the mesh following a moving load. This algorithm has been validated with the analytical solution of a moving load applied on a simply supported beam.Peer Reviewe
The present article attempts to prove that silvas pareadas have an expressive link with maritime passages. The autor studies fi ve autos sacramentales by Pedro Calderón de la Barca. This poetic form has a free structure in terms of extension: it has no limits of strophes. This characteristic makes silvas pareadas suitable for maritime passages. Calderón can include a smaller or higher quantity of heptasyllabic verses according to the case. The autor therefore argues that this metric form varies according to the action and enables the autos to reach intense dramatical expression
Assortative human pair-bonding for partner ancestry and allelic variation of the dopamine receptor D4 (DRD4) gene
The 7R allele of the dopamine receptor D4 gene has been associated with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and risk taking. On the cross-population scale, 7R allele frequencies have been shown to be higher in populations with more of a history of long-term migrations. It has also been shown that the 7R allele is associated with individuals having multiple-ancestries. Here we conduct a replication of this latter finding with two independent samples. Measures of subjects’ ancestry are used to examine past reproductive bonds. The individuals’ history of inter-racial/ancestral dating and their feelings about this are also assessed. Tentative support for an association between multiple ancestries and the 7R allele were found. These results are dependent upon the method of questioning subjects about their ancestries. Inter-racial dating and feelings about inter-racial pairing were not related to the presence of the 7R allele. This might be accounted for by secular trends that might have substantively altered the decision-making process employed when considering relationships with individuals from different groups. This study provides continued support for the 7R allele playing a role in migration and/or mate choice patterns. However, replications and extensions of this study are needed and must carefully consider how ancestry/race is assessed
