Effect of Sr substitution on superconductivity in Hg2(Ba1-ySry)2YCu2O8-d (part2): bond valence sum approach of the hole distribution
The effects of Sr substitution on superconductivity, and more particulary the
changes induced in the hole doping mechanism, were investigated in
Hg2(Ba1-ySry)2YCu2O8-d by a "bond valence sum" analysis with Sr content from y
= 0.0 to y = 1.0. A comparison with CuBa2YCu2O7-d and Cu2Ba2YCu2O8 systems
suggests a possible explanation of the Tc enhancement from 0 K for y = 0.0 to
42 K for y = 1.0. The charge distribution among atoms of the unit cell was
determined from the refined structure, for y = 0.0 to 1.0. It shows a charge
transfer to the superconducting CuO2 plane via two doping channels pi(1) and
pi(2), i.e. through O2(apical)-Cu and Ba/Sr-O1 bonds respectively.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Journal of Physics:

Temperature and field dependence of the phase separation, structure, and magnetic ordering in LaCaMnO, (, 0.50, and 0.53)
Neutron powder diffraction measurements, combined with magnetization and
resistivity data, have been carried out in the doped perovskite
LaCaMnO (, 0.50, and 0.53) to elucidate the structural,
magnetic, and electronic properties of the system around the composition
corresponding to an equal number of Mn3+ and Mn4+. At room temperature all
three samples are paramagnetic and single phase, with crystallographic symmetry
Pnma. The samples then all become ferromagnetic (FM) at K. At
K, however, a second distinct crystallographic phase (denoted A-II)
begins to form. Initially the intrinsic widths of the peaks are quite large,
but they narrow as the temperature decreases and the phase fraction increases,
indicating microscopic coexistence. The fraction of the sample that exhibits
the A-II phase increases with decreasing temperature and also increases with
increasing Ca doping, but the transition never goes to completion to the lowest
temperatures measured (5 K) and the two phases therefore coexist in this
temperature-composition regime. Phase A-II orders antiferromagnetically (AFM)
below a N\'{e}el temperature K, with the CE-type magnetic
structure. Resistivity measurements show that this phase is a conductor, while
the CE phase is insulating. Application of magnetic fields up to 9 T
progressively inhibits the formation of the A-II phase, but this suppression is
path dependent, being much stronger for example if the sample is field-cooled
compared to zero-field cooling and then applying the field. The H-T phase
diagram obtained from the diffraction measurements is in good agreement with

Electric field control of the magnetic chiralities in ferroaxial multiferroic RbFe(MoO4)2
The coupling of magnetic chiralities to the ferroelectric polarisation in
multiferroic RbFe(MoO) is investigated by neutron spherical
polarimetry. Because of the axiality of the crystal structure below
= 190 K, helicity and triangular chirality are
symmetric-exchange coupled, explaining the onset of the ferroelectricity in
this proper-screw magnetic structure - a mechanism that can be generalised to
other systems with "ferroaxial" distortions in the crystal structure. With an
applied electric field we demonstrate control of the chiralities in both

Cooling rate dependence of the antiferromagnetic domain structure of a single crystalline charge ordered manganite
The low temperature phase of single crystals of NdCaMnO
and GdCaMnO manganites is investigated by squid
magnetometry. NdCaMnO undergoes a charge-ordering
transition at =245K, and a long range CE-type antiferromagnetic state
is established at =145K. The dc-magnetization shows a cooling rate
dependence below , associated with a weak spontaneous moment. The
associated excess magnetization is related to uncompensated spins in the
CE-type antiferromagnetic structure, and to the presence in this state of
fully orbital ordered regions separated by orbital domain walls. The observed
cooling rate dependence is interpreted to be a consequence of the rearrangement
of the orbital domain state induced by the large structural changes occurring

High Performances Corrugated Feed Horns for Space Applications at Millimetre Wavelengths
We report on the design, fabrication and testing of a set of high performance
corrugated feed horns at 30 GHz, 70 GHz and 100 GHz, built as advanced
prototypes for the Low Frequency Instrument (LFI) of the ESA Planck mission.
The electromagnetic designs include linear (100 GHz) and dual shaped (30 and 70
GHz) profiles. Fabrication has been achieved by direct machining at 30 GHz, and
by electro-formation at higher frequencies. The measured performances on side
lobes and return loss meet the stringent Planck requirements over the large
(20%) instrument bandwidth. Moreover, the advantage in terms of main lobe shape

Critical role for prokineticin 2 in CNS autoimmunity
Objective: To investigate the potential role of prokineticin 2 (PK2), a bioactive peptide involved in multiple biological functions including immune modulation, in CNS autoimmune demyelinating disease.
Methods: We investigated the expression of PK2 in mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), the animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS), and in patients with relapsing-remitting MS. We evaluated the biological effects of PK2 on expression of EAE and on development of T-cell response against myelin by blocking PK2 in vivo with PK2 receptor antagonists. We treated with PK2 immune cells activated against myelin antigen to explore the immune-modulating effects of this peptide in vitro.
Results: Pk2 messenger RNA was upregulated in spinal cord and lymph node cells (LNCs) of mice with EAE. PK2 protein was expressed in EAE inflammatory infiltrates and was increased in sera during EAE. In patients with relapsing-remitting MS, transcripts for PK2 were significantly increased in peripheral blood mononuclear cells compared with healthy controls, and PK2 serum concentrations were significantly higher. A PK2 receptor antagonist prevented or attenuated established EAE in chronic and relapsing-remitting models, reduced CNS inflammation and demyelination, and decreased the production of interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-17A cytokines in LNCs while increasing IL-10. PK2 in vitro increased IFN-γ and IL-17A and reduced IL-10 in splenocytes activated against myelin antigen.
Conclusion: These data suggest that PK2 is a critical immune regulator in CNS autoimmune demyelination and may represent a new target for therapy
How Different Stocking Densities Affect Growth and Stress Status of Acipenser baerii Early Stage Larvae
In the present study, a multidisciplinary approach was used in order to evaluate growth, muscle development, and stress status in Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii larvae at schooling (T1) and complete yolk sac absorption (T2), reared at three stocking densities (low, medium, and high). Larvae growth, morphological muscle development, and whole-body cortisol levels were assessed. The expression of genes involved in the growth process (igf1 and igf2), in the myogenesis (myog), and in the regulation of cellular stress (glut1, glut2, glut4, and hsp70) was analyzed using a quantitative PCR. Larvae reared at lower densities showed a higher Specific Growth Rate and showed a physiological muscle development. Cortisol levels were low and did not differ significantly, both in different time sampling and across densities, suggesting that either the considered densities are not stressors in this species in the early stages of development or the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is not yet fully mature. Gene expression of glut1, igf1, and igf2 showed an up-regulation in both developmental stages at all the rearing densities considered, while myog significantly up-regulated at T1 at the highest density. Considering all of the results, it would seem that lower densities should be used in these stages of development, as these showed a higher growth rate, even if it is not economically feasible in commercial hatcheries. Therefore, choosing an intermediate stocking density could be a good compromise between larval performance and economical feasibility
Field dependence of the electronic phase separation in Pr0.67Ca0.33MnO3 by small angle magnetic neutron scattering
We have studied by small angle neutron scattering the evolution induced by
the application of magnetic field of the coexistence of ferromagnetism (F) and
antiferromagnetism (AF) in a crystal of PrCaMnO. The
results are compared to magnetic measurements which provide the evolution of
the ferromagnetic fraction. These results show that the growth of the
ferromagnetic phase corresponds to an increase of the thickness of the
ferromagnetic ''cabbage'' sheets
Average Lattice Symmetry and Nanoscale Structural Correlations in Magnetoresistive Manganites
We report x-ray scattering studies of nanoscale structural correlations in
the paramagnetic phases of the perovskite manganites
La(CaSr)MnO,
LaSrMnO, and NdSrMnO. We find
that these correlations are present in the orthorhombic phase in
La(CaSr)MnO, but they disappear
abruptly at the orthorhombic-to-rhombohedral transition in this compound. The
orthorhombic phase exhibits increased electrical resistivity and reduced
ferromagnetic coupling, in agreement with the association of the nanoscale
correlations with insulating regions. In contrast, the correlations were not
detected in the two other compounds, which exhibit rhombohedral and tetragonal
phases. Based on these results, as well as on previously published work, we
propose that the local structure of the paramagnetic phase correlates strongly
with the average lattice symmetry, and that the nanoscale correlations are an
important factor distinguishing the insulating and the metallic phases in these
