Electrical Characterization of TiO2 Insulator Based Pd / TiO2 / Si MIS Structure Deposited by Sol-Gel Process

    Get PDF
Electrical characterization of a Pd / TiO2 / Si MIS structure has been reported in this paper. The TiO2 layer has been deposited on n-Si substrate by spin coating sol-gel process using Titanium Tetraisopropoxide [Ti(OC3H7)4]. The current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics were studied at room temperature (300 K) by applying the dc bias gate voltage swept from – 3 to 3 V for the frequency range of 50 kHz to 1 MHz. The study reveals that the capacitance in the accumulation region has frequency dispersion in high frequencies (> 10 kHz) which is attributed to leakage behavior of TiO2 insulating layer, interface states and oxide defects. Different models of current conduction mechanism have been applied to study the measured data. It is found that Schottky-Richardson (SR) emission model is applicable at low bias voltage, Frenkel-Poole (FP) emission model at moderate bias voltages while Fowler-Nordheim (FN) tunneling dominates at higher bias voltages. TiO2 based MIS devices having high dielectric constant and good interface quality with Si substrate are expected to play a major role in microelectronic applications. In this study, the authors evaluated the comparative effects of dietary supplementation of ginger (Zingiber officinale), vitamin E and L-carnitine on certain blood parameters of two strains of broilers in summer. A total of 320 broiler chicks (Hubbard and Cobb) were divided into two groups. The two groups were subdivided into four subgroups with four replicates with 10 chicks per replicate. In each strain subgroup was kept as control while other subgroups were provided with ginger (2%), L-carnitine (500 mg/kg) or vitamin E (250 mg/kg) in the basal diet up to 42 days old. Supplementation of the diet with vitamin E, ginger and L-carnitine significantly decreased mean cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), glucose, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein (LDL), and increased high density lipoprotein (HDL) and serum protein concentrations. The results of vitamin E were comparatively better than those of the other two feed additives. The blood biochemical parameters did not vary between the broiler strains. From the findings of the current study, it was concluded that high ambient temperature had a negative effect on broiler hepatic and lipid profiles, and the supplementation of diets with vitamin E, ginger and L-carnitine improved broiler blood biochemical parameters. Keywords: Cholesterol, glucose, liver health, antioxidants, heat stres

Productive performance and histological features of intestinal mucosa of broiler chickens fed different dietary protein levels

ABSTRACT To evaluate the effect of decreasing dietary protein on growth performance, carcass traits, and intestinal mucosal morphometry, 180 female Hubbard strain broiler chickens were divided into 3 groups and fed 3 isoenergetic diets ad libitum from 14 d of age until slaughter age (49 d). The treatments varied according to 3 protein levels: high-protein diet (HiP, 22.5% CP, DM basis), medium-protein diet (MedP, 20.5% CP), and low-protein diet (LowP, 18.5%). Diets were obtained by replacing wheat middlings with soybean meal and were formulated to meet or exceed broiler amino acid requirements of the NRC. Morphometric indices of duodenum, jejunum, and ileum were measured at the end of the feeding period and included villus height, crypt depth, villus-to-crypt ratio, and apparent villus surface area. The dietary protein level had a significant effect on final BW of birds, whereas ADG, ADFI, and feed efficiency remained unaffected by dietary treatment. The muscle (breast and drumstick) yields were significantly higher in birds fed the HiP diet compared with those of the MedP and LowP diets. Meat quality traits were not affected by the protein level. The villus surface area of all intestinal segments did not change among groups. Instead, reducing the dietary protein level to 20.5% resulted in a higher villus height and villus height to crypt depth ratio in the duodenum and ileum. On the basis of our findings, even if the high-protein diet promoted meat yield, a medium-protein diet could positively support broiler growth performance, as confirmed by favorable morphometric features of the intestine

TEACHERS’ SELF-EFFICACY IN HANDLING AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR AMONG KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN

    Get PDF
Aggressive behaviour among kindergarten children is not something new in the world of education. Whether they like it or not, kindergarten teachers have to accept the fact that it is part of their job to face as well as to handle aggressive behaviour among children in kindergarten. Even though most of the inservice kindergarten teachers are trained, scant attention has been paid to their self-efficacy as well as its sources in terms of handling aggressive children, especially in Malaysian setting. The objective of this study was to identify the level and sources of kindergarten teachers’ self-efficacy in handling aggressive behaviour among children in kindergarten. Using the simple random sampling technique, responses to sense of self-efficacy and its sources of influence when handling aggressive behaviour among children in kindergarten were sought from 768 in-service kindergarten teachers across Malaysia via e-mail. Based on the finding of this study, Emotional Self-efficacy has the highest overall mean followed by Cognitive Self-efficacy and Behavioural Self-efficacy. In terms of sources of influence on kindergarten teachers self-efficacy, Mastery Experience contributed the highest effect followed by Verbal Persuasion and considered as prominent predictors. Thus, it is suggested that in-house training for in-service kindergarten teachers explicitly address these sources of self-efficacy. With better training opportunity and continuous professional development for in-service kindergarten teachers regarding their self-efficacy (Emotional, Cognitive, and Behavioural) in handling aggressive behaviour among children in kindergarten, it will be a win-win situation for both the teachers as well as the children

Genetic variability of kernel provitamin-A in sub-tropically adapted maize hybrids possessing rare allele of β-carotene hydroxylase

Vitamin-A deficiency is a major health concern. Traditional yellow maize possesses low provitamin-A (proA). Mutant crtRB1 gene significantly enhances proA. 24 experimental hybrids possessing crtRB1 allele were evaluated for β-carotene (BC), β-cryptoxanthin (BCX), lutein (LUT), zeaxanthin (ZEA), total carotenoids (TC) and grain yield at multi-locations. BC (0.64–17.24 µg/g), BCX (0.45–6.84 µg/g), proA (0.86–20.46 µg/g), LUT (9.60–31.03 µg/g), ZEA (1.24–12.73 µg/g) and TC (20.60–64.02 µg/g) showed wide variation. No significant genotype × location interaction was observed for carotenoids. The mean BC (8.61 µg/g), BCX (4.04 µg/g) and proA (10.63 µg/g) in crtRB1-based hybrids was significantly higher than normal hybrids lacking crtRB1-favourable allele (BC: 1.73 µg/g, BCX: 1.29 µg/g and proA: 2.37 µg/g). Selected crtRB1-based hybrids possessed 33% BC and 40% BCX compared to 6% BC and 5% BCX in normal hybrids. BC showed positive correlation with BCX (r = 0.90), proA (r = 0.99) and TC (r = 0.64) among crtRB1-based hybrids. Carotenoids didn't show association with grain yield. Average yield potential of proA rich hybrids (6794 kg/ha) was at par with normal hybrids (6961 kg/ha). PROAH-13, PROAH-21, PROAH-17, PROAH-11, PROAH-23, PROAH-24 and PROAH-3 were the most promising with >12 µg/g proA and >6000 kg/ha grain yield. The newly identified crtRB1-based hybrids assume significance in alleviating malnutrition

Dual generalized order statistics from family of J-shaped distribution and its characterization

    Get PDF
AbstractIn this paper we derive explicit algebraic expressions and some recurrence relations for both single and product moments of dual generalized order statistics from a family of J-shaped distribution. These relations generalize the results given by Zghoul (2010, 2011). Further, a characterization of this distribution through conditional expectation of dual generalized order statistics is given and some computational works are also carried out

Three systemic fungicides: Topsin-M (Thiophanate methyl, 70%WP), Ridomil MZ (Mancozeb, 64% + Metalaxyl, 8%WP), and Bavistin (Carbendazim, 50%WP) alone and in combination with four non-systemic fungicides Captaf (Captan, 50%WP), Indofil M-45 (Mancozeb, 75%WP), Indofil Z-78 (Zineb, 75%WP), and Thiram (Thiram, 75%WP) were evaluated both in vitro and in vivo for their effectiveness to manage Alternaria blight of rapeseedmustard caused by Alternaria brassicae. A pure culture of the pathogenic fungus was applied in the field at 2 g colonized sorghum seeds kg-1 soil. All the fungicides were evaluated for their efficacy at various concentrations, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 500 ppm, and were sprayed in the field at 0.2% a.i. l-1. All fungicides significantly reduced the severity of the disease but Ridomil MZ was most effective. Topsin-M at a concentration of 500 ppm was the most effective in reducing radial growth of the pathogenic fungi (74.2%). Ridomil MZ reduced disease severity by 32% and was followed in effectiveness by the combination Bavistin+Captaf (26.5%). Maximum yield was obtained in plots sprayed with Bavistin+Captaf (1198 kg ha-1) followed by Bavistin+Indofil Z-78 (1172 kg ha-1). It was worth noting that the highest net profit as well as the highest cost-benefit ratio was obtained with Bavistin+Indofil Z-78 (1:3.2), followed by Bavistin+Captaf (1:1.3)

In this note we give some recurrence relations satisfied by single and product moments of k-th upper record values from the exponential-Weibull lifetime distribution. Using a recurrence relation for single moments we obtain a characterization of exponential-Weibull, Weibull, exponential, Rayleigh and two parameter linear failure rate distributions
