C-slow retimed parallel histogram architectures for consumer imaging devices
A parallel pipelined array of cells suitable for real-time computation of histograms is proposed. The cell architecture builds on previous work obtained via C-slow retiming techniques and can be clocked at 65 percent faster frequency than previous arrays. The new arrays can be exploited for higher throughput particularly when dual data rate sampling techniques are used to operate on single streams of data from image sensors. In this way, the new cell operates on a p-bit data bus which is more convenient for interfacing to camera sensors or to microprocessors in consumer digital cameras
Analysis of anisotropic flow with Lee-Yang zeroes
We present a new method to extract anisotropic flow in heavy ion collisions
from the genuine correlation among a large number of particles. Anisotropic
flow is obtained from the zeroes in the complex plane of a generating function
of azimuthal correlations, in close analogy with the theory of phase
transitions by Lee and Yang. Flow is first estimated globally, i.e., averaged
over the phase space covered by the detector, and then differentially, as a
function of transverse momentum and rapidity for identified particles. The
corresponding estimates are less biased by nonflow correlations than with any
other method. The practical implementation of the method is rather
straightforward. Furthermore, it automatically takes into account most
corrections due to azimuthal anisotropies in the detector acceptance. The main
limitation of the method is statistical errors, which can be significantly
larger than with the ``standard'' method of flow analysis if the flow and/or
the event multiplicities are too small. In practice, we expect this to be the
most accurate method to analyze directed and elliptic flow in fixed-target
heavy-ion collisions between 100 MeV and 10 GeV per nucleon (at the Darmstadt
SIS synchrotron and the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron), and
elliptic flow at ultrarelativistic energies (at the Brookhaven Relativistic
Heavy Ion Collider, and the forthcoming Large Hadron Collider at CERN).Comment: 32 pages, 7 eps figures, RevTe
Using Nonlinear Response to Estimate the Strength of an Elastic Network
Disordered networks of fragile elastic elements have been proposed as a model
of inner porous regions of large bones [Gunaratne et.al., cond-mat/0009221,
http://xyz.lanl.gov]. It is shown that the ratio of responses of such
a network to static and periodic strain can be used to estimate its ultimate
(or breaking) stress. Since bone fracture in older adults results from the
weakening of porous bone, we discuss the possibility of using as a
non-invasive diagnostic of osteoporotic bone.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Application of antagonistic rhizobacteria for control of Fusarium seedling blight and basal rot of lily
Three antagonistic bacteria, Streptomyces misionensis strain PMS101, Bacillus thermoglucosidasius strain PMB207, and S. sioyaensis strain PMS502, were tested for sensitivity to the foliar fungicide Sporgon (a.i. 50% prochloraz-Mn complex) and for efficacy in controlling Fusarium diseases of lily. Results showed that the growth of all three antagonistic strains of bacteria was completely suppressed by Sporgon at a concentration of 500 mu g/mL, but B. thermoglucosidasius strain PMB207 and S. misionensis strain PMS101 were unaffected at concentrations of 100 mu g/mL or lower. A large-scale trial in an automated and environment-controlled commercial greenhouse showed that treatment of scale bulblets of lily with Sporgon (100 mu g /mL) and B. thermoglucosidasius strain PMB207 (1-1.2 x 10(7) cfu/mL) or 100 mu g/mL Sporgon and S. misionensis strain PMS101 (1-1.4 x 10(7) cfu/mL) resulted in a significant reduction (P 0.05). Results of the greenhouse and field experiments showed that treatment of scale bulblets or one-year-old bulbs of lily with B. thermoglucosidasius strain PMB207 (1-1.2 x 10(8) cfu/mL) or S. misionensis strain PMS101 (1-1.4 x 10(8) cfu/mL) without Sporgon was also effective in the control of basal rot caused by F. oxysporum f. sp. lilii. These studies reveal that B. thermoglucosidasius strain PMB207 and S. misionensis strain PMS101 are biocontrol agents which have potential for use in the commercial production of lily bulbs, as they can be used alone or in combination with the fungicide Sporgon at low concentration (< 100 mu g/mL)
Proximity induced metal/insulator transition in superlattices
The far-infrared dielectric response of superlattices (SL) composed of
superconducting YBaCuO (YBCO) and ferromagnetic La%
CaMnO (LCMO) has been investigated by ellipsometry. A drastic
decrease of the free carrier response is observed which involves an unusually
large length scale of d20 nm in YBCO and d10
nm in LCMO. A corresponding suppression of metallicity is not observed in SLs
where LCMO is replaced by the paramagnetic metal LaNiO. Our data suggest
that either a long range charge transfer from the YBCO to the LCMO layers or
alternatively a strong coupling of the charge carriers to the different and
competitive kind of magnetic correlations in the LCMO and YBCO layers are at
the heart of the observed metal/insulator transition. The low free carrier
response observed in the far-infrared dielectric response of the magnetic
superconductor RuSrGdCuO is possibly related to this effect

Closed-Time Path Integral Formalism and Medium Effects of Non-Equilibrium QCD Matter
We apply the closed-time path integral formalism to study the medium effects
of non-equilibrium gluon matter. We derive the medium modified resummed gluon
propagator to the one loop level in non-equilibrium in the covariant gauge. The
gluon propagator we derive can be used to remove the infrared divergences in
the secondary parton collisions to study thermalization of minijet parton

Infrared Behaviour of The Gluon Propagator in Non-Equilibrium Situations
The infrared behaviour of the medium modified gluon propagator in
non-equilibrium situations is studied in the covariant gauge using the
Schwinger-Keldysh closed-time path formalism. It is shown that the magnetic
screening mass is non-zero at the one loop level whenever the initial gluon
distribution function is non isotropic with the assumption that the
distribution function of the gluon is not divergent at zero transverse
momentum. For isotropic gluon distribution functions, such as those describing
local equilibrium, the magnetic mass at one loop level is zero which is
consistent with finite temperature field theory results. Assuming that a
reasonable initial gluon distribution function can be obtained from a
perturbative QCD calculation of minijets, we determine these out of equilibrium
values for the initial magnetic and Debye screening masses at energy densities
appropriate to RHIC and LHC. We also compare the magnetic masses obtained here
with those obtained using finite temperature lattice QCD methods at similar

Study of Cabibbo Suppressed Decays of the Ds Charmed-Strange Meson involving a KS
We study the decay of Ds meson into final states involving a Ks and report
the discovery of Cabibbo suppressed decay modes Ds -> Kspi-pi+pi+ (179 +/- 36
events) and Ds -> Kspi+ (113 +/-26 events). The branching ratios for the new
modes are Gamma(Ds -> Kspi-pi+pi+)/Gamma(Ds -> KsK-pi+pi+) = 0.18 +/- 0.04 +/-
0.05 and Gamma(Ds -> Kspi+)/Gamma(Ds -> KsK+) = 0.104 +/- 0.024 +/- 0.013.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
