    Space transportation nodes assumptions and requirements: Lunar base systems study task 2.1

    The Space Transportation Nodes Assumptions and Requirements task was performed as part of the Advanced Space Transportation Support Contract, a NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) study intended to provide planning for a Lunar Base near the year 2000. The original task statement has been revised to satisfy the following queries: (1) What vehicles are to be processed at the transportation node; (2) What is the flow of activities involved in a vehicle passing through the node; and (3) What node support resources are necessary to support a lunar scenario traffic model composed of a mix of vehicles in an active flight schedule. The Lunar Base Systems Study is concentrating on the initial years of the Phase 2 Lunar Base Scenario. The study will develop the first five years of that phase in order to define the transportation and surface systems (including mass, volumes, power requirements, and designs)

    Optimization Processing Parameters for Curcuma xanthorriza Oleoresin Yield and its Antioxidant Activity

    Processing is a critical aspect of herbal based products, and processing method is known to affect the content, activity and bioavailability of bioactive compounds. Extraction of oleoresin from Curcuma xanthorriza is effected by several processing parameters. Appropriate solvent selection such as polar solvent result in better extraction yield while lower polarity solvent end up with extracts having higher concentration of active compounds. In this study, different processing parameters were carried out including blanching treatment (boiled, steamed) at range of time (24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours), solvent of extraction (methanol, ethanol and acetone). The curcuminoid content and antioxidant activity were determined in Curcuma xanthorriza oleoresin. The result obtained was proved that ethanol was the most effective solvent.     TiO2/Kaolin composite as low-cost adsorbent for procion red removal from aqueous solution: kinetics, equilibrium, and thermodynamic studies

    ABSTRACT. Procion red is one of the most utilized textile dyes by numerous textile factories worldwide. Unfortunately, it has a detrimental effect on the ecosystem whenever it was released into the environment as textile wastewater. In this work, the removal of procion red from aqueous solution has been conducted by adsorption with modified natural kaolin as a low-cost adsorbent. Kaolin was systematically modified by thermal activation then followed by acid activation in different acid concentration. Activated kaolin sample was then mixed with TiO2 to produce TiO2/Kaolin composite. Activated kaolin and TiO2/Kaolin composite were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). Various operational variables that affect the adsorption process were taken into consideration, including the effect of initial pH, contact time, initial dye concentration, and temperature. The adsorption parameters of kinetics, isotherm, and thermodynamics were also studied according to the most common model established. The results showed that the procion red adsorption was pH-dependent and reached equilibrium at 90 min. The kinetics study was revealed that the adsorption process was better demonstrated by the pseudo-first-order rather than the pseudo-second-order model. The adsorption isotherm investigation showed that the adsorption process was followed both Langmuir and Freundlich model with qe reached 158 mg/g, and the adsorption process was predicted in favorable condition. The thermodynamic study revealed that the adsorption process is spontaneous with endothermic nature. According to the results, it can be considered that the TiO2/Kaolin composite adsorbent has better adsorption capability to the procion red.               KEY WORDS: Activated kaolin, TiO2, Composite, Adsorption, Procion red Bull.     This paper is a case study entitled “Fund Management System of mobile Infaq and alm boxesin Pasar 45Manado”. This research was conducted using observationsin the area of Pasar45 Manado.Data were collected through observations and interviewswith the carriers of infaq boxes, the dwellers in Pasar45Manado, and people in charge of the infaq boxes management, as well as documentation. The approach used is juridical and sociological. This research aims (1) to understand the fund management system of theinfaqand almboxesspread around Pasar45, and the management by which collectors collect all of theinfaqand almboxes. Once the collectors collected the donation, they gave them to the mosque\u27s management who would divide the fund into two parts:40 percent for the collectors and the restis allocated for the construction of mosques and others. This research also seeks (2) to describe how people view the fund management system ofinfaq and alms boxes collected around Pasar45Manado. This research shows that most people seem to disfavor these alms and infaq collection due to the unstructured fund management. We need to understand that the infaq and alms boxes run by collectors every Friday to ask for a donation is a noble deed when the funds is channeled and addressed to the appropriate places orpeople or those who are in need. This action would certainly benefit the Muslim community.The funds will help to reduce poverty in Manado as well as in other areas.
