Metodologia científica: cultivo in vitro de unha-de-gato.

Get PDF

Magnetism and Electronic Correlations in Quasi-One-Dimensional Compounds

In this contribution on the celebration of the 80th birthday anniversary of Prof. Ricardo Ferreira, we present a brief survey on the magnetism of quasi-one-dimensional compounds. This has been a research area of intense activity particularly since the first experimental announcements of magnetism in organic and organometallic polymers in the mid 80s. We review experimental and theoretical achievements on the field, featuring chain systems of correlated electrons in a special AB2 unit cell structure present in inorganic and organic compounds

The corporate identity of a company or institution is evidenced through internal and external communication elements, the production environment and / or care that is provided to the customer at the presentation of staff, and also through stationary. In this sense, the research aims to materialize the values associated with the brand IPCB, and allow delineating various levels of corporate communication strategy for adaptation to different target. In research methodology, in a first phase, it is necessary to review the literature related to the issue in question to clarify concepts and adopt methods. From the literature review it was determined a set of hypotheses to be tested and identified the variables and the measures needed to test these hypotheses. To test the hypothesis it was used a mixed research methodology: First, through observation and analysis of advertising campaigns to attract new students, held previously by IPCB, intending to evaluate the relationship between image and text. Second, through questionnaire was intended to carry out an audit (of advertising image) to the presidency of this institute. Therefore, it is sought to substantiate the relationship between text and image in institutional advertising, and what brand values IPCB present in the academic community. The analysis of the data resulting from this research methodology is qualitative and may result in a set of guidelines that are not closed, so that in future advertising campaigns, the implementation of brand IPCB can be done more effectively, enhancing and solidifying the institutional image. It is intended that this research has a practical applicability in the campaign to attract new students to the IPCB courses in the academic years 2013/2016. It will certainly be to consolidate the institutional posture abroad since, with greater success, may be well-defined strategic lines delineate and determine goals to fulfil, promoting thereby a position of excellence over the competition.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The Multi-center Evaluation of the Accuracy of the Contrast MEdium INduced Pd/Pa RaTiO in Predicting FFR (MEMENTO-FFR) Study.

AIMS: Adenosine administration is needed for the achievement of maximal hyperaemia fractional flow reserve (FFR) assessment. The objective was to test the accuracy of Pd/Pa ratio registered during submaximal hyperaemia induced by non-ionic contrast medium (contrast FFR [cFFR]) in predicting FFR and comparing it to the performance of resting Pd/Pa in a collaborative registry of 926 patients enrolled in 10 hospitals from four European countries (Italy, Spain, France and Portugal). METHODS AND RESULTS: Resting Pd/Pa, cFFR and FFR were measured in 1,026 coronary stenoses functionally evaluated using commercially available pressure wires. cFFR was obtained after intracoronary injection of contrast medium, while FFR was measured after administration of adenosine. Resting Pd/Pa and cFFR were significantly higher than FFR (0.93±0.05 vs. 0.87±0.08 vs. 0.84±0.08, p<0.001). A strong correlation and a close agreement at Bland-Altman analysis between cFFR and FFR were observed (r=0.90, p<0.001 and 95% CI of disagreement: from -0.042 to 0.11). ROC curve analysis showed an excellent accuracy (89%) of the cFFR cut-off of ≤0.85 in predicting an FFR value ≤0.80 (AUC 0.95 [95% CI: 0.94-0.96]), significantly better than that observed using resting Pd/Pa (AUC: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.88-0.91; p<0.001). A cFFR/FFR hybrid approach showed a significantly lower number of lesions requiring adenosine than a resting Pd/Pa/FFR hybrid approach (22% vs. 44%, p<0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: cFFR is accurate in predicting the functional significance of coronary stenosis. This could allow limiting the use of adenosine to obtain FFR to a minority of stenoses with considerable savings of time and costs.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Acoustic receptivity and transition modeling of Tollmien-Schlichting disturbances induced by distributed surface roughness

Acoustic receptivity to Tollmien-Schlichting waves in the presence of surface roughness is investigated for a flat plate boundary layer using the time-harmonic incompressible linearized Navier-Stokes equations. It is shown to be an accurate and efficient means of predicting receptivity amplitudes, and therefore to be more suitable for parametric investigations than other approaches with DNS-like accuracy. Comparison with literature provides strong evidence of the correctness of the approach, including the ability to quantify non-parallel flow effects. These effects are found to be small for the efficiency function over a wide range of frequencies and local Reynolds numbers. In the presence of a two-dimensional wavy-wall, non-parallel flow effects are quite significant, producing both wavenumber detuning and an increase in maximum amplitude. However, a smaller influence is observed when considering an oblique Tollmien-Schlichting wave. This is explained by considering the non-parallel effects on receptivity and on linear growth which may, under certain conditions, cancel each other out. Ultimately, we undertake a Monte-Carlo type uncertainty quantification analysis with two-dimensional distributed random roughness. Its power spectral density (PSD) is assumed to follow a power law with an associated uncertainty following a probabilistic Gaussian distribution. The effects of the acoustic frequency over the mean amplitude of the generated two-dimensional Tollmien-Schlichting waves are studied. A strong dependence on the mean PSD shape is observed and discussed according to the basic resonance mechanisms leading to receptivity. The growth of Tollmien-Schlichting waves is predicted with non-linear parabolized stability equations computations to assess the effects of stochasticity in transition location

Fish-based groups for ecological assessment in rivers: the importance of environmental drivers on taxonomic and functional traits of fish Assemblages

The use of river-types is of practical value, serving as groups for which assessment procedures can be developed and applied. An abiotic typology was set by the Portuguese Water Agency, mainly based on 6 major morphoclimatic regions. However, to be biologically meaningful, this typology should fit the distribution patterns of the biological quality elements communities proposed in Water Framework Directive under the lowest possible human pressure. This study aimed to identify and characterize fish-based geographical groups for continental Portugal and their environmental and geographical discriptors, using taxonomic and functional traits. Sampling took place between 2004 and 2006 during Spring. Fish fauna from 155 reference sites was analysed using a multivariate approach. Cluster Analysis on fish composition identified 10 fish-groups, expressing a clear correspondence to the river basin level, due to the restrict basin distribution of many species. Groups showed a wider aggregation in 4 regions with a larger geographical correspondence, statistically supported by Similarity Analysis, both on fish composition and mostly on fish metrics/guilds. Principal Components Analysis revealed major environmental drivers associated to fish-groups and fish-regions. Fish-groups were hierarchically grouped over major and local regions, expressing a large-scale response to a North-South environmental gradient defined by temperature, precipitation, mineralization and altitude, and a regional scale response mainly to drainage area and flow discharge. From North to South, fish-regions were related to the morphoclimatic regions. Results contributed to reduce redundance in abiotic river-types and set the final typology for Portuguese rivers, constituting a fundamental tool for planning and managing water resources

Parameterization and quantification of recharge in crystalline fractured bedrocks in Galicia-Costa (NW Spain)

Quantifying groundwater recharge in crystalline rocks presents great difficulties due to the high heterogeneity of the underground medium (mainly, due to heterogeneity in fracture network, which determines hydraulic parameters of the bedrock like hydraulic conductivity or effective porosity). Traditionally these rocks have been considered to have very low permeability, and their groundwater resources have usually been neglected; however, they can be of local importance when the bedrock presents a net of well-developed fractures. The current European Water Framework Directive requires an efficient management of all groundwater resources; this begins with a proper knowledge of the aquifer and accurate recharge estimation. In this study, an assessment of groundwater resources in the Spanish hydrologic district of Galicia-Costa, dominated by granitic and metasedimentary rocks, was carried out. A water-balance modeling approach was used for estimating recharge rates in nine pilot catchments representatives of both geologic materials. These results were cross-validated with an independent technique, i.e. the chloride mass balance (CMB). A relation among groundwater recharge and annual precipitation according to two different logistic curves was found for both granites and metasedimentary rocks, thus allowing the parameterization of recharge by means of only a few hydrogeological parameters. Total groundwater resources in Galicia-Costa were estimated to be 4427 hm3 yr−1. An analysis of spatial and temporal variability of recharge was also carried out

This panel aims to investigate knowledge, arts and policies in urban circuits through a transnational perspective. Our focus is on cultural production and performances by social collectives that employ political, cultural, management, economic and labor resources engendering exhibition scenarios, visibilities and disputes on urban public spaces. This comparative and ethnographic perspective (in its various forms) intends to contribute with an understanding on contemporary uses of public spaces in the city, in order to debate (re) urbanization processes and the role cultural practices, festive and artistic performances play in this context. We also propose a reflexive discussion on anthropologist’s practices and contemporary public policies, especially those with a cultural and heritage focus. This panel proposal is based on cooperation projects between researchers from Brazil, Argentina and Portugal with a vast experience in cultural and artistic practices research in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Lisbon. Panel coordinators have also taken part in organizing national and international scientific events, including work groups and round tables, as well as joint bibliographic productions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
