emergence of multimedia technology and the rapidly expanding image collections on the database have attracted significant research efforts in providing tools for effective retrieval and management of visual data. The need to find a desired image from a large collection. Image retrieval is the field of study concerned with searching and retrieving digital image from a collection of database .In real images, regions are often homogenous; neighboring pixels usually have similar properties (shape, color, texture). In this paper we proposed novel image retrieval based on Block Truncation Coding (BTC) with Gabor wavelet co-occurrence matrix. For image retrieval the features like shape, color, texture, spatial relation, and correlation and Eigen values are considered. BTC can be used for grayscale as well as for color images. The average precision and recall of all queries are computed and considered for performance analysis

    Get PDF
Background: Shame and stigma brings about undesirable attribute and significantly contributes to the HIV screening and STI treatment seeking, particularly among sex workers. Societal compulsion and feelings of perceived stigma and shame make the sex workers more vulnerable and likely to destabilize their community and the community at large, if no attention is paid. Hence this study was necessitated to document the experiences of stigma and shame and its influence in HIV screening. Methods: This descriptive research was conducted among commercial sex workers (CSW) enlisted by a NGO. Using simple random sampling procedure research team has interviewed 58 respondents. Semi structured interview schedule was used to explore the knowledge, sexuality, experience of shame and stigma. Michigan Alcohol Screening Test brief scale was used to assess alcohol dependence. Written informed consent was obtained from participants prior to data collection. Results: Rates of shame and stigma were high among the study participants. Income, knowledge of HIV, alcohol dependence, and number of partners, access to pornographic films, history of sexually transmitted infections (STI) and shame was independently associated with HIV screening. However, marital status of the respondents was inversely related to HIV screening. Conclusions: Experience of shame associated with the profession was so intense among CSW. This experience of shame acts as a barrier in getting screened for HIV while stigma may not be a powerful barrier

Adoption of ISO 14001 Standards in Indian Manufacturing Firms

Voluntary environmental initiatives (VEIs) by firms are often viewed as important for environmental management in developing countries such as India with weak regulatory institutions and poor enforcement of environmental laws. Past research shows that while VEIs may not be able to fully substitute for strong regulation, they could be useful complements to reduce environmental degradation in developing countries. In India, new government initiatives such as “Make in India” are geared towards significantly increasing the manufacturing output in the next few years. In this context, our paper studies the adoption of a widely employed VEI - the ISO 14001 standards certification - among the Indian manufacturing industries. Using the theoretical framework of Earnhart, Khanna, and Lyon (2014) on the drivers of corporate environmental strategies in emerging economies, we hypothesize that the likelihood of adoption of ISO 14001 standards among Indian manufacturing industries is a function of internal firm characteristics, input and output market pressures, and regulatory pressure. We test our hypotheses using a survey of 1000 (large, medium, and small) manufacturing firms across the country, conducted under the aegis of the World Bank in 2016. Results show that internal firm characteristics such as large size and firm innovation have a positive association with the likelihood of adopting ISO 14001 standards. Output market pressures, such as exporting to foreign markets, also positively impact the likelihood of obtaining ISO 14001 certification. In particular, exporting to China, which is ranked first in the number of ISO 14001 adoptions, has a statistically significant impact on probability of adoption. There is no evidence, however, that predominantly consumer-facing firms, another potential indicator of output market pressure, are more likely to adopt ISO 14001 standards. We also find state-fixed effects, potentially capturing the variation in both formal and informal regulatory pressure across states. Thus, consistent with other research in developing countries, we find that pressure to meet the environmental standards of countries to which firms in developing countries export their products acts as a strong incentive to adopt VEIs such as ISO 14001 standards. The lack of evidence that consumer-facing firms are no more likely to adopt ISO 14001 standards potentially indicate that firms in India do not yet find the green consumer markets large enough to adopt VEIs

Background: The study was done to analyze epidemiological factors associated with postpartum eclampsia and to assess the maternal outcome. Methods: This is a retrospective study done in a tertiary care hospital, Govt. Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, Salem, Tamil Nadu between Jan 2015 to Dec 2015. Case records of all the postpartum eclampsia patients admitted during this period were analyzed. Results: This study showed that the incidence of postpartum eclampsia in our hospital was 9.3 per 1000 deliveries. It is more common in the age group of 21 - 25 years (52%) and frequent occurrence in primi para (50.7%). Commonest mode of delivery was vaginal route (63%). The occurrences of seizures were common between 48 hours to 7 days (30.7%). The mortality was 6 (10.7%) out of 56 maternal deaths that occurred during the study period. Conclusions: Postpartum eclampsia is still one of the most common obstetric emergencies which have a significant role in maternal mortality. Regular antenatal care alone is not enough; they also need regular postnatal follow up care and health education

A Novel estimation and Correction of Channel errors in LTE SYSTEMS

    Get PDF
The increase in the number of RF devices and the requirement for large data rates places major role in increasing demand on bandwidth. This necessitates the need for RF communication systems with increased throughput and capacity. MIMO-OFDM is one way to meet this basic requirement. OFDM is used in many (WCD) wireless communication devices and offers high spectral efficiency and resilience to multipath channel effects. Though OFDM is very sensitive to synchronization errors, it makes the task of channel equalization simple. MIMO utilize the multiple antennas to increase throughput without increasing transmitter power or bandwidth. This project presents an introduction to the (MPC) multipath fading channel and describes an appropriate channel model. Many modulation schemes are presented (i.e. BPSK, QPSK, QAM) that are often used in Conjunction with OFDM. Mathematical modeling and analysis of OFDM are given along with a discrete implementation common to modern RF communication systems. Synchronization errors are modeled mathematically and simulated, as well as techniques to estimate and correct those errors at the receiver accurately
