    Library Engagements: Looking Beyond Covid-19

    Get PDF
The role of the Library and Information professionals has been integral in promoting knowledge cultures throughout the centuries. Libraries have undergone a sea change and have been keeping pace with the networked and digital world. Libraries are the gateways to the information resources that engage the readers in different ways and capacities. A crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic shut the doors of the physical libraries but the opportunities and the doors for the digital libraries were opened like never before in history. LIS professionals all around the world have taken up the challenge of providing the information services to the user communities and engaged them in the most positive manner. Digital libraries have mustered up to continuously promote, supplement and complement the online education that was ushered in the society. The study explores the type of services provided by libraries for the society particularly in the context of library services and library professionals who faced both the opportunities and challenges that arose out of the COVID-19 crisis. LIS professionals have a greater role to play in the coming times to lift the spirits of the society by providing innovative services. The study highlights the significant initiatives and information engagements undertaken by the libraries in the global context to meet the post lockdown needs and look beyond the COVID-19 era

The relation between stellar magnetic field geometry and chromospheric activity cycles - I. The highly variable field of É› Eridani at activity minimum

    Get PDF
The young and magnetically active K dwarf Epsilon Eridani exhibits a chromospheric activity cycle of about 3 years. Previous reconstructions of its large-scale magnetic field show strong variations at yearly epochs. To understand how Epsilon Eridani's large-scale magnetic field geometry evolves over its activity cycle we focus on high cadence observations spanning 5 months at its activity minimum. Over this timespan we reconstruct 3 maps of Epsilon Eridani's large-scale magnetic field using the tomographic technique of Zeeman Doppler Imaging. The results show that at the minimum of its cycle, Epsilon Eridani's large-scale field is more complex than the simple dipolar structure of the Sun and 61 Cyg A at minimum. Additionally we observe a surprisingly rapid regeneration of a strong axisymmetric toroidal field as Epsilon Eridani emerges from its S-index activity minimum. Our results show that all stars do not exhibit the same field geometry as the Sun and this will be an important constraint for the dynamo models of active solar-type stars

The study focused on the effects of organic amendments on bacterial scab and apical rot of tomato in a real environment in western Burkina Faso. Indeed, a trial was set up in a completely randomized Fisher block design. It included eight (08) treatments consisting of organic and mineral fertilizers all repeated four (04) times. The incidence of the disease and its severity were evaluated as well as the effect of the treatments on the quality of the fruits. The disease is progressive with all treatments. However, the progression is relatively low with composted household waste associated with mineral fertilizers. The disease is more severe with the different fertilizers taken individually

Asymptotic Behavior of the T3Ă—RT^3 \times R Gowdy Spacetimes

We present new evidence in support of the Penrose's strong cosmic censorship conjecture in the class of Gowdy spacetimes with T3T^3 spatial topology. Solving Einstein's equations perturbatively to all orders we show that asymptotically close to the boundary of the maximal Cauchy development the dominant term in the expansion gives rise to curvature singularity for almost all initial data. The dominant term, which we call the ``geodesic loop solution'', is a solution of the Einstein's equations with all space derivatives dropped. We also describe the extent to which our perturbative results can be rigorously justified.Comment: 30 page

The Mixmaster Spacetime, Geroch's Transformation and Constants of Motion

We show that for U(1)U(1)-symmetric spacetimes on S3Ă—RS^3 \times R a constant of motion associated with the well known Geroch transformation, a functional K[hij,Ď€ij]K[h_{ij},\pi^{ij}], quadratic in gravitational momenta, is strictly positive in an open subset of the set of all U(1)U(1)-symmetric initial data, and therefore not weakly zero. The Mixmaster initial data appear to be on the boundary of that set. We calculate the constant of motion perturbatively for the Mixmaster spacetime and find it to be proportional to the minisuperspace Hamiltonian to the first order in the Misner anisotropy variables, i.e. weakly zero. Assuming that KK is exactly zero for the Mixmaster spacetime, we show that Geroch's transformation, when applied to the Mixmaster spacetime, gives a new \mbox{U(1)U(1)-symmetric} solution of the vacuum Einstein equations, globally defined on \mbox{S2Ă—S1Ă—RS^2 \times S^1 \times R},which is non-homogeneous and presumably exhibits Mixmaster-like complicated dynamical behavior.Comment: 25 pages, preprint YCTP-20-93, Revte

ABSTRACT Loss to follow-up of antiretroviral therapy is when PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) do not come for antiretroviral therapy for more than 3 months. This study aimed to determine the factors of loss to follow-up antiretroviral therapy for PLWHA at Prof. Dr. W. Z. Johannes Kupang Public Hospital where PLWHA with land, water and air transportation are served. This was a case control study with 66 samples of PLWHA. The samples underwent antiretroviral therapy in Prof. Dr.W.Z. Johannes Kupang Public Hospital from 2006 to 2016. Saturated sampling technique was done for cases group and simple random sampling was done for control group. Univariate and bivariate data analysis were done in this study. The result of bivariate analysis showed that there were association between intention (p = 0.004, OR = 4.667), self efficacy (p = 0.0001, OR = 7.875), action (p = 0.0001, OR = 45.000), transportation mode (p = 0.046, OR = 0.200), and transport costs (p = 0.0001, OR 19.333) and loss to follow-up antiretroviral therapy. It could be concluded that transportation and behavior were the major problems for the loss to follow up antiretroviral therapy in the islanded area.   Keywords: HIV/AIDS, antiretroviral therapy, loss to follow-up, islanded area   ABSTRAK Gagal follow-up antiretroviral therapy adalah  jika ODHA (Orang dengan HIV/AIDS) tidak menjalani terapi antireroviral lebih dari 3 bulan  terakhir. Hasil analisis bivariat menunjukkan ada pengaruh niat (p = 0,004, OR = 4,667), self efficacy (p = 0,0001, OR = 7,875), tindakan (p = 0,0001, OR = 45,000), moda transportasi (p = 0,046, OR = 0,200), dan biaya transportasi (p = 0,0001, OR 19,333) terhadap gagal  follow up terapi antiretroviral. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa masalah utama gagal follow up terapi antiretroviral di wilayah berkepulauan ini adalah transportasi dan perilaku.   Kata Kunci: HIV/AIDS,  terapi antiretroviral, gagal follow up, wilayah berkepulauan
