    Mussel resources of Andaman Islands

A variety of molluscan resources such as edible oysters, pearl oysters, clams, mussels and gastropods are distributed along the coastal area of Andaman and Nicobar islands. Among the bivalves, the distribution of green mussel Perna viridis was earlier known only from a small creek at Sippighat (Mahadevan, 1983)

Distribution and abundance of the mangrove bivalves Isognomon ephippium (Linnaeus) and Cyrena ceylonica (Chemnitz) in Andamans

Investigations were carried out on the occurrence, distribution, population density, sex ratio, percentage edibility and total biomass of the oyster Isognomon ephippium in three different locations namely Sippighat creek, Mithagari jetty and Diglipur port area and the clam Cyrena ceylonica in the marshy areas around Sippighat and Bimbleton creeks of Andaman islands. The study revealed that the density of oyster population was high in Sippighat than the other two locations and the clam was more abundant in the mangrove creeks and backwater canal of Sippighat

This paper attempts to show the identity of Assimilation and Assertion of the female protagonist in Bharati Mukherjee\u27s latest novel Miss New India. Bharati Mukherjee is making a statement about her own experiences and observations on the issues faced as a woman in traditional Indian and foreign country by the medium of her female characters. And it also discusses the number of questions related to trauma survivor and quest for Identity of the female characters who struggle to come out of the Attitude of Assimilation and Assertion

Light-heavy ion measurements in CR-39 located on the Earth side of LDEF

    Get PDF
The azimuthal angle distribution and the charge and energy spectra of selected light-heavy (5 less than or equal to Z less than or equal to 8) stopping particles were measured in a single layer of CR-39 plastic nuclear track detector (PNTD) from the stack of the A0015 experiment located on the Earth-end of the LDEF satellite. The directional incidence of the trapped protons is studied by comparing the azimuthal angle distribution of selected recoils, obtained in the LDEF detectors, to that obtained through calibrations of PNTD's with exposures performed with 200 MeV proton beams from different directions

Light will be Thrown: The Emerging Science of Cultural Evolution

    Get PDF
Culture evolves, not just in the trivial sense that cultures change over time, but also in the strong sense that such change is governed by Darwinian principles. Both biological and cultural evolution are essentially cumulative selection processes in which information – whether genetic or cultural – is sieved, retained and then transmitted to the next generation. In both domains such a process will result in recognizable lineages and tree-like phylogenies so characteristic of Darwinian evolution. Because a principle of inheritance (i.e., faithful replication of information) holds in both domains, we may trace back particular transmission histories and identify the forces that influenced them. The idea that culture evolves is quite old, but only in recent years there has been a serious effort to turn this idea into science. This article offers a concise analysis of how a rudimentary idea gradually evolved into a thriving research program

Post-Modern Feminist Ideology in Mahesh Dattani’s Where There’s a Will and Final Solutions

    Get PDF
A true art is not meant for teaching and preaching. Its primary function is to give delight; its purpose is chiefly aesthetic. Only a writer, who maintains a perfect blending of both feeling and form, can push upward the art at its zenith. Mahesh Dattani exposes the illusion of perfect and complete control over the family for a longer period. Here the question arises in our mind why a man aspires too much for authority and power. Does it signify any value of life? Apparently it doesn’t attach any meaning to human existence. Nor does, it helps in improving quality of human life. Dattani is convinced that it is an attempt to make one-self secure and survive. So, man’s drive for the domination arises out of his own apprehension of insecurity. The dramatist mainly reflects on the issues of gender discrimination and evil of patriarch along with host of other issues like father-son, husband-wife relationship, evil of capitalism in the post colonial purview.
